L.W.S Robotics
The old thread for my build diary's got locked so from now on i'll be posting all progress here.
bots so far: minor tom: FW,partly built but won't be ready for maidstone for monetary reasons.
masochist:AW, working rear hinged flipper but is being rebuilt soon.
Valefor:AW, front hinged flipper hopefully being finished later today, I was going to weld the plastic for it but it wasn't strong enough so hot glue in some places and screws in others will have to do for now, also it has 3mm ABS armour and 10mm HDPE sides

Re: L.W.S Robotics
i built an front hinged flipper ant
wasn't overly successful
-
Re: L.W.S Robotics
Front hinged flippers can be very successful in ants (see Jigsaw).
Why 10mm sides?
-
Re: L.W.S Robotics
I had the weight and for protection against horizontal spinners, and will spinners be allowed at the roaming robots Maidstone event ?
-
Re: L.W.S Robotics
so was hazard 1 a front hinged flipper.
the hinge was on the front of the bot?
-
Re: L.W.S Robotics
It's a front hinged flipper if the flipper goes forward rather than backwards e.g firestorm
-
Re: L.W.S Robotics
And Sewer Snake style is best of both worlds! :proud:

@tweedermeister ''I was going to weld the plastic for it but it wasn't strong enough so hot glue in some places and screws in others will have to do for now, also it has 3mm ABS armour and 10mm HDPE sides''
You could try to weld the plastic this way:
http://www.fightingrobots.co.uk/foru...=5294&start=45
It worked for me, could work for you
-
Re: L.W.S Robotics
I don't think that would work to well for why I'm using it for, it's only 3mm thick and hot glue does the same job anyway, and if I could make an effective sewer snake ant I would.
-
Re: L.W.S Robotics
With Antweight HDPE, I use a spare soldering iron tip to weld plastic together, using 1mm HDPE strips as welding rod after its been tacked in place (melted together).
I will try and get my polycarb together for Maidstone so you can run a spinner in my arena.

Re: L.W.S Robotics
Actually I was hoping that they wouldn't be allowed

Re: L.W.S Robotics
hows the arena coming along Dave?

Re: L.W.S Robotics
starting the build on the new ants tomorrow with this design for a rammer:
http://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/ ... 0Shell.jpg
2 50:1 pololu motors for drive, botbitz 12a esc's lipo battery, 2mm hdpe top and base, 4mm sides, the sides and back will be one solid piece of hdpe bent into shape using a heat bar, the wedge will be a piece of 2mm aluminium bent into shape.
I have permission from the builder so the build on mini kronic will also start ASAP.
what servo (preferably metal geared) would you guys reccomend for a very powerful flipper ?
-
Re: L.W.S Robotics
For a very powerful flipper, I would suggest a Park HPX F, but I don't believe they are sold anymore, and they used to be very unreliable in my experience (I blew 3 in one event!)
I use an HS-82 in AG3, and it produces enough torque to flip an antweight with not a lot of difficulty, but if you have the weight and want something a bit more powerful, Svengali uses a KST 125MG servo with 7kg/cm torque. A little unnecessary, but it's fun to use!

Re: L.W.S Robotics
Done some work ant-wise, got everything all wired up and ready to go now the only thing to do is make the armour and flipper arm, I was thinking of going for something along these lines:

A lot has gone on since the last time I posted here, mainly that I acquired Aftershock 4 from Will Thomas and just this weekend got it into running condition thanks to some help from Harry Hills:

Next time the drive should be a lot faster and stronger since the battery we were using was low on power.
