I've recently bought a Heavyweight chassis & am in the process of (slowly) completing it.
I've also got a regulator on the way and a ram here.
Bad news is though, that the ram 360*100. As a consequence, is having major difficulty fitting into the chassis.
Any Suggestions/Advice from some pneumatic veterans?
have a bulge out the top of the robot?
shorten the ram?
Shorten ram, get a new ram or find the room. Pictures would be good.
Edit: 100 by 360 is massive, shorten it or get a smaller one.

Is 360 the total length or the stroke of the piston?
With a 100mm bore a stroke of 150mm maximum would be ideal. Any more would waste gas as the valves could not keep up the flow-rate. The length of the stroke can be reduced by machining the outer tube down and shortening the studs and re-threading.

I sold some rams successfully - thats going to be a heavy bugger to post though
Shortening that monster is 20 minutes of work.
Unfortunatly, getting it here -Belgium- and back is another matter.
Could it be taken by someone heading from the UK to MMM? Especially if it'll take just 20 minutes. :wink:Quote:

You can screw the top and bottom from the body, make it shorter, add new metric thread and put it back together again.
The shortening can be done with a good saw and/or by milling.
Shortening the rod can be done by grinding or sawing. I'm not sure how the piston is attached, maybe it is possible to shorten the rod from that end and save the thread.
Maidstone is an option.
Local engineering firm would be able to do that no problems.
As kane said you'd need to make new tie rods- just get some threaded bar and use that, hacksaw it down to size and job done.
Nice to see turbulence's gearbox plates are being used again, i made them nearly 7 years ago :)
To me it looks like a Festo cylinder. In that case there are no tie-rods but just screws.
The local engineering firm could even make 2 un-equal lengths for you if you want to experiment a bit with different strokes.
