Believe they're working on getting a 10mm shaft version. Little pricey for the same power (reliability aside) as a 12 quid drill...Quote:

I think even some of the more expensive ones have a plastic stage amongst the metal gears!
We got one from Homebase for £15 that was all metal. :)
Oooh, that's interesting, worth paying the extra £3 on top of the Argos drills and getting some that will last.
Got a link?
Believe it was this one: http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/st ... ber=289449
Don't know how they fair next to the trusted Argos versions in combat but I don't see why they wouldn't work just as well. It was surprisingly well made. Took some time to get into it!
the ryobi drill i use have metal gearboxes, they cost me £39 for the 4 drill and £7 for postage so they work out cheaper than Argos
I'm pretty sure the latest ones I bought from Argos (~2 months ago) were all-metal gears, although my memory might be fudged slightly on that. I do remember that the attached drill motor has a D-shaped shaft so that the pinion doesn't break loose, an issue which I have had happen on other drill motors on several occasions (cost me a good battle once too :( )Quote:
