Nothing to do with the video but the crazy lighting makes it very hard to watch the fight. Just some static white lighting to illuminate most of the area would do.
For the video itself, its good to see the old RW into screens but I think we need something original.
Another camera angle would be good but again that out if your control really unless someone else has a camera.
But besides that its great :D
Did the show have spot lights on the robots while in the arena?
Guys, whilst I don't dispute the effort put in to creating things, I'd be very careful with what you are doing, using John's logos and branding and blatantly ripping off Robot Wars graphics, commentary, visuals and graphics.
Regardless of whether John's given permission for this to be done - I would strongly advise taking this down, you're in serious risk of 'passing off' the Robot Wars branding and trademark, the BBC visuals and format - a very dangerous and foolish thing to do, and one that ultimatley could leave John having to defend his involvement (or lack of involvement) in it.
I must say i agree with Ed. All the artwork / logo / voices / sounds etc are probably trademarked. I do not believe that an short mention in the end of the edit is enough to cover the rights issues .
OT:
I really enjoyed watching it!
I would say, create your own artwork & sound-effects and keep that door closed in the back ;)
I can confirm that the Robot Wars format is indeed trademarked - and vigorously defended.
Also, I hadn't even got to the end to see any disclaimer... apologising for doing something after you've done it doesn't ensure immunity from responsiblity !
The BBC have comfirmed that use of their stuff is not permited to be used for personal gain. Seen as this is purely for peoples entertainment and to occupy myself, and not for money or any such thing, I'm pretty sure they won't have a problem. I will however proceed with caution, thanks for the input. :)
It shows a great use of editing cutting and pasting the various clips together but it's nothing new so doesn't stand out!
What would be good is new graphics for the content!

Could I suggest then that you don't associate it with John's events and remove any reference - as I think you would struggle to argue that it doesn't appear as an advert for John's events, blended into the BBC's copyrite material.
... for the record, your statement above is totally incorrect, and I'd love to see where that is available in writing, but I really can't be bothered to argue.
Jarvis, you have clearly put quite a bit of effort into this, and despite the risks I think you have done a good job. I am not sure if the risk is all that real anyway, in truth. Perhaps, if anyone 'official' stumbled across this and took it as a rip and for something other than a young fan with a computer and a camera, then fine. I realise it is irrelevant, but if the BBC really did have a problem with this, it would be pathetic. A few hundred views and no profit made? I doubt they'd make a fuss. Especially considering the absolutely monumental amount of material on YouTube that would have to be taken down if this specific production were attacked.
That said, I can't speak for what John and co. might think.

As for new and unique graphics, I am looking into that. I have 4-5 years in video editing and animation, and I may be able to do something. As for audio, we have several professional producers in the community, including my dad who has been doing it for 40 years.
You've all missed the point - it's not the guy that's created the movie that's at risk, he's just a fan and yes you're right the BBC might turn a blind eye if it got spotted.
... it's the fact that it's branded as being for Roaming Robots, with the Roaming Robots logo's on it - whilst the discussion on here bears out that I suspect Jonno hasn't commisioned this as advertising, given that it's Roaming Robots that would cop the flack for it - branding it with Roaming Robots seems like a pretty dumb thing to do (in my opinion) ! That... is far more likely to get the BBC's attention.
I knocked this up in no time at all as an example of what can be done with an image from Google (this is an example, if this were an official thing I'd make sure it is okay to use whatever images I do), our log burner's rusty drawer (the sound) and some simple editing:

May I interject with the minor point that I believe that Mentorn owns the trademarks not the BBC.
Potayto potarto tomayto tomarto, let's call the whole thing off!
With the Battlebots legal case ruining ownership of most of the Robot combat concept and premise, surely legal cases would rely on passing off and trademarked branding?
That sounds like personal experience, Ed.Quote:

It's far more complex than that Ceri with format, imagery, logos and style all being involved and owned by different bodies - part of the issue here is a lack of understanding by people of the complexities and thinking that if you write a disclaimer you can do what you like.
I've said my piece, I still think using an Event Organisers branding on this is daft and risks attention where people can do without it.
And yes Ceri, as I suspect the only person on here who has owned a registered trademark and successfully defended its use (against Mentorn and the BBC as it happens) I do have just a little experience here and for all the dressing up... the clip is askin for trouble for Jonno.
