The Team Psyclone Build Diaries

Hello everyone, and welcome to my build diary. I thought rather than have one for each robot I make, I'd make one for them to be compiled in to.

Either way, I have two Feathers running as of now, (Well, only one works properly, other needs rewiring.) and a Heavyweight chassis coming. I do plan to build my own feathers when I have the tools, and from now on, I won't cheat and buy them.

I'm not sure as of how to carry on from linking the Photobucket, (So the thread doesn't become scattered with pictures.) and possibly a video or two.

I promise this will become a more interesting build diary, as soon as I can actually start.

Glad to see that feathers finally going to get some use! i must have made it about 2 years ago and never had a fight with it

That one. Sorry the link is so big. It's just the Lifter motor and wheel motors, chassis and wheels. It's kinda lost in the post atm, so we're hoping to find it.

it might need rewiring at somepoint to make it all a bit more reliable etc but the robot itself should be fine (Y)

I'll do it when it needs it, but for now, it seems okay.

That robot's definitely a good starting point, surprised it took so long for someone to buy it from Calum.

And just a heads-up that the chassis in your eBay link is very small for a heavyweight, as it sounds like it was designed mostly for the featherweight class or possibly a lightweight (~26kg) class. It would also possibly struggle to support 100kg of parts.

Well, it's just something to build on to, although I guess it could be a feather. I wasn't exactly up to spending loads on parts for a Heavyweight, but I'll see what happens.
Thanks for telling me, though. It might have been funny to put the thing in with the heavies, but I guess I'd have to fear for it.

One of the motors in the first picture looks like its pointing at a bit of a funny angle.

As Jamie said, that robot probably won't cut it as a HW, but on the bright side you probably got a lot of useful parts for your money. If worst comes to worst you can alway chop it up and have a load of aluminium for another robot, a set of wheels for your axe bot and a lifter motor and arm for a robot too.

I suppose it couldn't do harm to take the parts and put them to good use. Better than scrapping the thing.

Only as a suggestion as a last resort, and so you don't feel like its not been a good purchase, but if you want to try other things with it first then go for it, thats all part of the fun :)

Robot body measures 47cm long, 35cm wide and 16cm high. Total length with flipper arm is 66cm.

yeah, that ain't no heavyweight. its also designed for wiper motors, so its prolly a feather.

might be okay to just scrap for alu though

Blame me dad, he had one look at it, and said it was a heavy. No worries though, it was cheap enough, now just to search through various warehouses to actually find it. When I do, I'll choose what I want to do with it.

Sorry to DP and bump my own thread, although I have a bit of news and a question.

First of all, I should be getting that chassis today, all being well. Luck appears to be on my side for once.

Ad, as for my question, the feather I bought off of Calum is running two Electronizes, and I wish to run it on a Pistol-Grip style TX, however it doesn't have mixing, so could anyone suggest a good cheap mixer so I can run it easily? I've been looking at the GiantShark one, but I want to be sure before I actually buy.

Can you link us to it so we know exactly what one you're talking about? Wouldn't want to say it was ok then have you waste your cash.

then I would say that it looks ok, although I haven't used it nor have I used a pistol grip system but should work.

That's the one, and for it's price, it wouldn't really matter if I bought one and it wasn't what I was looking for. But I prefer to do a bit of research, assuming asking on a forum is counted. I'll have a look at some Youtube videos and reviews, ect...

We use one of those. Works perfectly. Not sure about with a pistol-grip style tx but with a Planet 5 and Electronizes it has been great.

Well, it sounds good enough. I'll buy one when I get the money to. Might get the Giantshark/ Hobbywing one to test, and just see how it performs, maybe put it in Twister.
