Hi all, i was wondering if there are any antweight events coming up as i am going to make my first robot in 2 days and really want an event to try it out.
This is probably the best place to look for Antweight events: http://robotwars101.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=9
are there any near or within an hour of Portsmouth?
if you can't be bothered to look at that list of events and work it out yourself you're not welcome at any ant events.
i have checked but i dont know how long it takes to get to Brighton or Birmingham!!!!!!! :|
ask your parents or look it up on google maps
There is a Roaming Robots event in Portsmouth every year, however its not usually held until October-ish time (and I'm not sure its happening this year anyway). Brighton is probably the closest to Portsmouth, but its still a good couple of hours away.
Brighton will be you're closest for now, thats the Big one the AWS, so you'll need to register before the event.

I checked, its 1hr 23mins to brighton from Portsmouth.
Once you've built your ant and given it a name, sign up on the Robotwars101.org website/forum. In the events section, on the first page of the AWS 38 thread, theres a link to the sign up form.
ok thanks and does anyone know where to get 6mm polycarb quite cheap?
try googling 6mm polycarb. or just have a look on ebay
I've got some spare, how much do you need?
i would probably need A4 size or just smaller
I can spare an A4 sheet, PM me your address and I'll send you the piece.
How thick and what materials do you make your spinner blades out of?
Generally speaking, most antweight weapons are made from Titanium, between 0.8-2mm thick. Other people have used other things for blade, like Tool steel, or some have used a plastic hub with metal blades (steel, Ti, Hardox, etc) attached.
Its best to sign up to the antweight forum for more questions because there are a lot more antweight resources on there.
ok thanks everyone for your help
i use 3mm ti, gets a bit bent on big hits, and 6mm thick tool steel on my beater.
steel is 40g per cm2 (according to my pathetic calculations)
where can you get tool steel from
Ti is hard to use but i can do steel
Wrong, steel has a density of 7.83 g/cm3, please do check before you postQuote:

Hey Lewis
Just to make a point, the guildford event on the 30th is a robot workshop for kids. If you want to come to a proper event, Roaming Robots are doing a proper combat event at the same venue on June 24th.
oh i didnt realise as i have never been to an event . thats good because i was going to ask to do both events but seen as the one on the 30th is for kids i will hopefully be at the oone on the 24th.
