Will be upgrading it over a few weeks, might just change the speedos for ones with breaking built in (brushless) to stop it over steering, as its un driveable at the moment due to crazy amounts of over steer.... got some whyachi motors that would fit in if i can be bothered...
currently weighs 13.2kg at the moment with gas... 1kg of that is in NIMH's... Needs some lipo... then maybe some hardox on the front.

Whyachi motors and gearboxes ready to get bolted in, there in the centre of balance of the robot;

Lipo box and hacked brushless escs;

Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
nice balancing skills...........nice robot..............nice carpet :)

Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
Done a bit today, got the whyachi motors mounted, just need to get some bits of keyway and wire it up, then its good for a test drive...
Also started on beefing up the armour;
http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/v...s/1d5e8aa9.jpg
with all the hardox on the front, new motors, lipos, brushless escs etc its coming in 300g under weight with gas... should be enough to sort out fixings for the new armour.
Also, anyone know the equivilent weight of 3mm aluminium in HDPE?
Im guessing around half... so if i ditched the 3mm ali armour i could go for some 6mm hdpe... need something LH isnt going to just make look crap within 2 seconds.
Also... might ditch the cut out in the front plate... i thought it'd look cool, but it kinda makes the robot look like count duckula....
-
Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
i personaly quite like the scoop. it's looking very nice, like the hardox parts
-
Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
Closer to 1:2.75 for aluminium:HDPE thickness ratio for the same mass
-
Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
I thought the front plate was an M for Mouldy
-
Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
or MONG LOL, looking good mate cant wait for test drive vids you seen RPM,s beetle weight test vids
-
Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
Ali is 2.7g/cm and HDPE is 0.95g/cm
I like the Ali plate, looks old school robot wars!
-
Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
Thanks Ewan/PJ; looks like ill be able to put 8mm HDPE ontop- i do prefer the check plate, but like i said, it will last all of a couple of seconds in a fight... might keep it down the sides.
Hopefully LH wont do a lot to 8mm HDPE... its got a fair bit of air under it anyhow so it should be ok.
Dave; yeah it looks well sweet, looks like my first beetle but better lol;

Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
That be actually looks pretty cool dave, what size disc did it have? Btw will 360 ever return to combat?
-
Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
thats a pretty sweet bw dave same as 180's disc?? what happened to it
-
Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
It looks pretty beasty, shame you lost interest.
-
Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
L,H, can't do much to 8mm UHMLPE or RG1000 it had a go at doing damage to Seraph when they were both in the pit and did well....................................nothing! :mrgreen:
-
Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
It had same motors Kenny has for drive in 180 but right at the back... So it barely drove...sold the motors to Kenny for 180, then chucked it in the bin lol.
Yeah disc was from the original 180.
360 will be back at some point, but probably just for demo...

Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades

Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
Jeez that's got some serious speed. :o

Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
Looking good Davablo. The wheel re-positioning seems to help a lot.
What is the response of the Botbitz controllers like, in relation to transmitter stick movement? Saw another video you posted of testing them and they seemed nice and sharp. Just curious how well that transfers into the robot; it's harder to tell on the little 6A controllers I've got in the beetle.
-
Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
Yeah there pretty slick mate, I'm going to order a batch of them soon, 2 for my drum, 2 for 360 and spares...there super slow speed control isnt the best... But how often do you drive with less then 1/8th throttle lol
-
Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
Very impressed!
One I'll me and Dan will have a robot that drives..... erm... at all....
-
Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
looking great dave now wheres 360! Will be great to get it running again.

Diablo doing a sit down on my v12 coffee table;
http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/v...s/0f71145a.jpg
... has HDPE lids now, and some hardox bolted on the front... just needs the bit on the arm doing now and some welding etc... 50g over weight with gas and front hardox piece added at the moment, but i havent even tried to take weight out of anything yet :)
-
Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
Glad to see you kept some of the Ali checker plate!
Awesome coffee table by the way! Where on earth did you get your hands on a V12 block?

Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades

Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
I believe the correct adjective in this context is badass.
It looks badass.
-
Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
Looks awesome! What size ram have you got in there?
-
Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
The bit of hardox on the front of the flipper arm looks like the makings of a tuxedo jacket. Totally worth drawing on a bow-tie and a smiley face and calling it Jeeves.
The added black bits give it a nice evil edge 8)

Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
Duckbill looks like it's off to a dinner party lol
Looks well sweet mate got new duckbills bulkheads cut at kennys tonight
-
Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades

Dave: cool, get pics online! It going to be in weight? Or you going for a mega buffer like flows lol?
-
Re: Diablo mk1 upgrades
