How often does everyone actually get a chance to fight their robots?
sadly I only get to fight maybe 3 times a year due to distances (and the lack of being able to drive)
wonder if anyone has the same issue as me? as lets face it, we all wish we could do every event ;)

I used to think this too, but gradually realised that the events would lose a bit of their magic if I attended every one. Like Gary, I'm only at a few events a year (oddly, I either seem to manage one event a year, or three events a year - never two :| ) so it's always good fun meeting up with everyone and socialising. If I went to every event, I'd start to take the social aspect for granted and probably wouldn't make as much of an effort to spend time chatting/catching up with folk. The events would lose their edge as well; the numerous weeks building up to a big event can be just as enjoyable (with rising excitement/tension levels) as the event itself.Quote:

Though I cant compete very often, I look forward to events weeks in advance, and when I do them, I can get a lot out of each one :)

Probably 5-6 times a year. Although a lot of those are Antweight events, i do enjoy the featherweight/heavyweight ones too though. The events are great but when you do it too often it really burns you (and your wallet) out. I should be at a Robochallenge event one of these days...
I go to every event I can possibly do, which is the vast majority of them.
I can agree with what Jamie says about constantly going to the big events can make them 'lose their magic', but TBH its the only real fun I get to have, and the company just makes it more enjoyable to go, even if they do take the pi$$ A LOT :).

3 or 4 Dutch full combat Feather events a year.
2 German Feather events- also full combat a year.
UK events, if time and money allow.
Being associated with antweights helps a lot as the events are far more regular, but I manage...

I've been attending events since July 2009 (AWS 29) and have been to 18 events in the 34 months I've been doing robots - of which eight have been Antweight World Series, eight either Roaming Robots or Robots Live heavyweight events, nine other antweight-specific events and one thing which happened in a pub in Chadderton - which very roughly averages out to an event every seven weeks.
I can't honestly say each event has lost its magic yet though - the wide eyed wonder of everything from when I was starting out has long since faded but I still get excited about events, I still want to go to and fight at as many as is possible, and every time I turn up and see the arenas and everyone I know I still feel a bit like the little eight year old watching Robot Wars who's woken up inside his best dream ever :)
I've been to every AWS since I started (AWS 19) up until now (AWS 37 was the latest one), except for AWS 23 and 31. I cannot fathom how many other events I have been to, but a quick add up says I went to 18 events in 2007 alone, not including the AWS's
I've had antweighs for 2-3years but never been to an.aws.
