what is the best type of featherweight because i need a simple cheap idea and i will take onboard any idas.
you should watch some of the vids on youtube that should give you some ideas
i have but i just cant make my mind up.
360, inertia xl, ls4, explosion spring to my mind
cough ** block of wood ** cough
i have prices for normal and axe robots i also know what i need but i really want an outline of what i need and how to make other types of robots so i can make my conclusion
have a look through the build diarys there's a fair bit of info and pics
kk
Drills would be OK,
They'd masacre HDPE, but not all robots use that.
You'd need a really thick drill piece to avoid it snapping, at least 10mm
Axes don't do much damage, they'e just for spectacle. Armours too tough.
Flippers can knock electronics out, and OOTA robots, but can be very expensive.
Rambots are a good start, as a wedge shape to rive under robots, but it would take skill to flip a robot.
Discs are best and masacre all robots, but are only run at robochallenge, and the nearest to us is London in April.
Gripping weapons again are just for spectacle, and I'd imagine heavy.
Thrackbots have electronics inside the wheels, and have a bar as a weapon, like
stinger-http://robotwars.wikia.com/wiki/Stinger
and chimera-theres a pic at the bottom-http://robotwars.wikia.com/wiki/Team_Death
The saint- can't find a pic because roaming robots is down, try googling it.
Wilhelms scream could be considered a thrackbot-again can't find the pic
And full body spinners, in which the whole body moves round the base. Again, count as a disc, so can only be run at robochalllenge
http://robotwars.wikia.com/wiki/Full-body_spinners
Using electricity and fluids etcetera is banned, so don't start building clever ideas without checking the rules first.
I thought the event was in Birmingham?Quote:

The matter of 'the best featherweight' or 'the best weapon type' is totally down to opinion.
Personally, I would say that the flippers are the best, and has been shown due to the majority of UK championship results (and other competitions such as the tag team :) ). However, others have different opinions, as shown in previous posts.
Long story short, that's a matter to decide yourself. There is no set answer.
i have decided to make a flipper or a thrack bot they both have weaknesses and strengths so i will watch vids on both of them to decide. should i use pneumatics or hydrolics for a flipper?
A thwack bot was actually one of my original designs.
hydraulics are heavy and slow so you would only be able to use them for a lifter or crusher
ok thanks for that, i have priced up a flipper and it is quite expensive so i am making a thwack robot.
i was looking in to using a wiper motor over volt to 24v to run a axe i sure other people have done it before but i don't no how successful they've been
axes are for show they are not very good
tell that to little hitter
I thought of doing that but wiper motors are very heavy, too slow for an axe, and not really that powerful considering their weight. But feel free to try! I may try again with mine but like I said they are very slow!Quote:

The weapon type is a tiny part of the machine. If you look at every champion in history in any weight class they all have one thing in common. Not weapons, not armour but drive. They are all well balanced and drive really well. No exceptions....
fair point
