i am starting a new project and would like either a scorpion XL or a sabertooth 12v or 5 amp speed controller quite cheap as i have a low budget.
a scorpion xl and a simple cheap 5amp controller are at 2 ends of the scale in terms of spec, performance and price....what are you building?
a featherweight. driller
bad design, drills arent good weapons
i got a really high quality motor to power it plus a strong material to make it out of.
i would personally avoid using a drill as a weapon......just have a think about the process of drilling a hole
holding the materail (clamping) is key otherwise the material will move and the drill wont make a hole
your target materail will often be moving, sloped and quite often these days hardox which drilling normally is very hard
if you want a damage bot make a crusher or axe bot can be done simple but very fun and effective
i am stuck as to what to make then as this is my first project and i am new to this stuff.
do like a rammer or basic electric lifter
which one inflicts more damage?
rammer i spose
but on a low budget with drill it will still be awful
build a barnslybot
i am not sure i just want a simple but effectrive robot and i should have some income soon so what would you recomend?
for about 200 quid you could build a basic featherweight, if you want a little damage then a thwack bot is best for you, its where you have an axe or hammer on the end of your robot so that when your robot turns on the spot people may get hit by the axe
2WD rambot is cheapest and easiest to do. Best starting there. Could maybe even do it for slightly less than Harry mentioned if you ask for the bits on here and use the cheapest possible parts.
if you get second hand parts i pretty sure you can make a simple 2wd rammer for about £90 ish
i want to make an axe but not sure how to pull it off effectively
easiest way is to buy a scooter motor on ebay, buy some sprockets and chain and do a simple reduction
easy and cheap

here ya go, should be about 40 quid or so for an axe
thanks for that it was really helpful
do you have any websites similar with instuctions on building flippers
Look in the website section of the forum and look at the thread good websites for newcomers
kk
theres not alot
I don't understand why a feather
ants are so much easier and you can run them for almost the whole show
if your on a budget then spending money on a feather is a joke.
you might aswell use a toy car with a 40mhz radio
but if you really want then ask for an early Christmas presant
about £200 for a nice new one
please dont use a radio control car.....as a feather weight
as a..... well, anything but an rc car really
do you guys not like to smash stuff up
You can easily build a feather for 200
or an ant for £50
Lewis do you understand electronics
and know how to build a robot?
i know how to build and i understand electronics i have a wider budget now as my dad said he would buy stuff for me.
