Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
Hi Guys
I have just been informed by Electronize that they will not supply me any more speed controllers after I damaged the first ones.
What alternatives do I have to those that I can get hold of before GSL and are the same size?
Failing that does someone have 2/3 Electronize ESC's that I could buy off them?
Thanks In Advance!

Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
Someone was selling a couple on here a while back, check the for sales.
I think they were the 15a ones, but I don't see why they couldn't handle 2 drill motors.

Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
I blew a 15a fuse with my lifter's 12v drill the other day. I'd be careful running 2 gimsons on one 15a ESC.

Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
Mine is fitted with a 100A fuse for the lipo but that was not the problem, when I made the wiring for the lipo and the removeable link I forgot to check the polarity of the link, which was on backwards, then I put the battery into the link socket by accident meaning the battery was on backwards then put the link in and poof. Well half poof, the robot still goes forwards perfectly fine but no backwards.

Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
We have all made the reserved polarity mistake (or at least I have... a couple of times now....) and an expensive one it is...
Good reason to have Fuses on your ESCs or one low enough on the Li-Po!
Besides what do you want reverse for? That's for retreating....

Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
do you still have speed control or is it just full throttle, what happens when you try to reverse?

Have they refused to supply you with any more replacements for damaged controllers, or are they refusing to sell you new ones? If they've just refused to supply you with replacements for damaged controllers, just buy new ESCs from them? If it's the latter, it seems quite frankly foolish of them to refuse business to anyone considering how difficult it is for a lot of companies to generate business right now.

Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
That's how I initially read it, but that can't be true.
When I reverse polaritied my Sabertooth Dimension Engineering just sent me out a brand new one! And it as the next model up, and I bought the first one 2nd hand, most impressed with them.
British companies could learn a thing or two about customer service.

Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
They are refusing to ever sell me or anyone with the sir name Botwright ever again by the sound of it. The said that it did not seem that I knew what I was doing and that they did not want to be involved. One tiny mistake and it has put me about 1 month behind on the build :x

Full proportional control. So that means that the IC on the board is fine. I reckon it is one of the 2 large relays or one of the transistors that controls the relays that is bust.

Remember Razor series 4, got stuck in forwards and could not escape the arena wall, that I want to avoid if at all possible
It seems that that the Victor 883s will fit, just, so I am trying to track some down without having to order them from the US. :)

Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
You could try replacing the relays with automotive relays, or get someone else to order some for you and forward them on.
-
Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
What model are they? The relays are easy enough to get old of, just swap them.
-
Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
Just de-solder the relays and replace them. Bit fidly but good soldering experience.
I am very surprised to hear that they are not going to supply them to you ever again. Although to be fair, i wouldn't be expecting a replacement if I reversed the polarity on a speed controller.
-
Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
I knew that I was not going to get a replacement, I made the mistake after all, I just ordered some more and they said no :(
-
Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
That's really not on. It's a simple, easy mistake to make.
I've heard of corporate responsibility but that's just taking it too far! He could have made 2 more sales.

Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
4, I wanted spares! £174.60. No matter, I will just use Victors from now on, if i can get them before GSL. At this rate I will arrive having done 0 driving practice! If any practice at all :( I will be a sitting duck, then spinning debris...

Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
Driving practice? What's that?

Order it under a different name? Failing that ask a friend to order em for you?
-
Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
Thats plan A, with any luck I can have one of my friends at Uni buy them and then I can give them the money straight away :)
Update: Might be on to something!

Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
Problem solved :) 4 FR30HX on there way (In theory) I can't see how they will stop this order

Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
You might want to try the Holmes Hobbies BR-XL. They're currently listed as out of stock, but sending an email can't hurt.
http://holmeshobbies.com/product.php?pr ... t=2&page=1
I've been running dewalts in high gear with a 6s Lipo and haven't cooked them ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiHEhiSz ... ature=plcp )
The waterproofed versions are listed as in stock at Robot Marketplace ( http://robotcombat.com/products/0-HH-TMBRXL.html ) so that might work too.
Holmes Hobbies does sponsor me, but I wouldn't use them if they didn't work.

Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
I can't believe they wouldn't sell you new ones?! Makes no sense!
Tempted to order some myself, just to see what happens after I said mine were faulty! But then again, when I sent two off for servicing, they only charged me for one so seems strange to be that weird to a customer

Are you sure they refused your order because it was you? I ordered some electronize relays a while back and received an email saying they weren't coming. Spoke to them and they had supply problems with them. May well be the same issue.
-
Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
Think he's been able to order some through a friend so would seem they singled him out?!
-
Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
I tried once myself and there was a problem with my card for some reason... but when I asked first time round what the issue was they did not respond. I then got my second uncle (yeah that far out the way) to get some, damaged those with my wiring mistake...etc...
Oh well, I wont be making the same mistake twice not after all this, but its shame as we never seem to make anything in this country any more, especially electronics so why they don't want the business no matter how they feel about who is using/buying the parts, is just odd. :?
Best stop this now, I did not intend to cause a mini upset :(
-
Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
best have your battery plugs and links on a different connecter eh? :)
-
Alternative ESC's (Nevermind)
Yeah, next year... EC5 for batteries and Deans for the link!
-
Re: Alternative ESC's Needed ASAP!
It is wierd they're not selling you anymore ESC's. Companies usually label their products with instructions and notes which makes you accountable for any accidents if using them incorrectly etc, they should just sell to whoever wants to buy imo
