Beetle Arena
I've got a 1.75m floor panel left from the Rebel Robots arena, enough steel to make the structure for the polycarb and of course polycarb to make a fully enclosed arena.
Is this something worth building? would anyone be able to take their beetles to an event to put the arena to use?
Or if I make it would someone who could use it more be willing to buy it off me?

Re: Bettle Arena
I'd happily bring mine along, especially if in the South West

Re: Bettle Arena
Ewan where in Bristol are you?

Re: Bettle Arena
Redland, what about you? Been here long? (not noticed before!)

Re: Bettle Arena
Clifton, been here since September 09

Re: Bettle Arena
Virtually next door. Let me know if you're planning something around here & I'll be happy to lend a hand

Re: Bettle Arena
Ever consider making a Beetleweight house robot?

Re: Bettle Arena
Hey Guys
this has literally happened to day but...
At my uni, UWE Bristol, the robotics society has decided to make a move towards beetle weight machines in an attempt to create an in university competition.
We are also planning to invite other local uni's like Cardiff, Bristol, Bath, Exetor etc to join in and get a local (well with in a 30 mile radius) compatition going on. Only issue is we don't have an arena...
I have asked the FRA for the build specs on a beetle arena but who owns the current beetle arenas un the UK?
Throw ideas and suggestion up if anything crosses your mind :-)

Re: Bettle Arena
There isn't an arena yet.., the parts are there and when we get time it will be built

Re: Bettle Arena
This is the arena I built. Its got the frame and stuff to hold the polycarb aswell.

The polycarb is at Kennys ready to be cut and then just needs fitting to the frame.

Re: Bettle Arena
Its a 2 meter by 2 meter steel floor, 10mm thick polycarb walls and roof,

Re: Bettle Arena
That was our initial thought to... 2m x 2m, steel floor, 20mm sides and top in polycarbonate but we were going to have an inner arena to of 1.5m x 1.5m lifted up off the floor so you could put robots out of the arena

Re: Bettle Arena
Sounds brilliant Alex, I'll try and help out with a Bristol Uni continent if you're looking?

Re: Bettle Arena
Thank you very much for the offer :) We will definitely need help from the FRA community when the time comes.
First up for us though is making contact with various other universities to see what interest level we have. The chances are it will be quite high given the number of engineers, designers and robotics students in the southwest.
Then we will have to work out how much it will cost to build the arena and get the universities to split the cost evenly. It will have to be the full thing, a class 1 arena, there is no point in anything less.

Re: Bettle Arena
If this class had a proper arena at regular events I feel it could be very popular
It sounds like a great idea, you may well get at the front of BW combat ;)

Re: Beetle Arena
The arena Tom has been making is PLENTY good enough for any beetleweight.
Class 1 arena's are for the most powerfull heavyweight spinner's. Even 5mm polycarb would be perfectly fine for the beetleweights. We've had little spinner and 360 hit our 10mm screens at full power with the discs and nothings ever got close to damaging them.
Good luck with it all - feel free to get intouch if you need any help with things.
