Online Petition to bring back robot wars

Hi all

I know that this is a long shot but after reading various comments on robot wars videos from both the public and roboteers on youtube I though why not contact the former producer of robot wars Tom Gutteridge and I have had various emails through from him and if we can get enough signitures, he will consider making series 8 of robot wars. So if you wish to see it back on TV, please just take a second out of your time to sign the petition below.

Well BBC are stupid for not bringing it back

Back in 2010 the viewing figures for Dave almost doubled when Robot Wars Extreme came on, they still have the rights
to it, so why not make and exclusive Robot Wars on Dave?

May I ask: Why Tom Gutteridge?

I mean, nice enough bloke & I wish him only the best in life but, for example, you don't associate the name with the money it would take to make the program.

You know who I never see getting these petitions addressed to:
Tinopolis, the Welsh multimedia parent company of Mentorn. They look like they could not only make it, but turn it to a profit.

No offense, Tom. I don't care who does it - so long as someone does!

I know many of these things have been done before, but hey, if it increases the chance of Robot Wars making a return even by 0.1%, then I'm in! Signed!

I kind of agree with Ceri, I'd rather like to see those e-mails myself.

But at the end of the day, the real question is...do we really need Robot Wars back?

If we consider trying to inspire new people to get into the sport as a need then we absolutely need the program back. If not, then, I still want it back!

I disagree entirely. The answer is clearly a No. Someone would always want to see the live events, in the same manner that people see car shows, or exhibitions like Gadget Show live.

The real elephant in room question is: Being selfish & with no solidarity for a second- Do you want Robot Wars back?

To thine own self be true. You need to know the answer to that question but not necessarily share it.

Firstly to many this question of the Robot Wars series being back on TV has done the rounds several times before. It is now several years since the programs were broadcast on the BBC, and here we still are. I think the question do we need the robot wars series on TV I would say probably no.
However it's important the robot scene in one format or another should be On TV as the public is not going to hunt us out, The EO's have to find the paying audience to finance the fun times we have with the robots! TV has been proved to help the audience figures.
I for one like the idea of more robo-games type robot format, (as I don't do combat robots too well) or some other robot type programming,
If you want robots back on TV look forward and not backwards think of a program idea to sell to the TV companies.

I wasn't suggesting at all that it shouldn't come back. I was simply stating that I wouldn't care one way or another (though if it did, I'd probably watch it for nostalgia value) if it was brought back. However you're right in suggesting I can't speak for everybody, so I'll back off, sorry for that.

I am more than content with the live events, though...even if I'm a few thousand kilometres too far to see them live! :rofl: (good ol' YouTube, eh)

The thing I miss the most is the house robot's. They where cool, and you can't really replace the original house bots.

Yeh the house robots were cool, and IF robot combat ever went back on tv, I would rather the house robots didn't destroy our robots after every battle, lol, but I would love it to be back on tv, even just 1 or 2 shows would be enough to show people that there are still events around, but a full on tv seres, like robot war,s would be brilliant!!!

And have you put it on the RW 101 forum? Cos in sure alot of people there would sigh it...

back on topic though, i think if we do the FW and HW champs each year at one event, we could televise it like RW

Yeah, a Robot Avengers website would be good, and I agree with you that the champs could be filmed each year, that way people who are unable to get to the events can still see it.

even if it is successful the possibility of spinners will depend on what budget the show is given for the arena

The original set was only valued at £11,000, although personally I think it would have cost a lot more.

The original arena cost about a 1/3 of a Million pounds to build, so i believe.
