my actuator died, but in theory it should still work?

My actuator stopped working when I tried to test it so I checked the batteries and they were fine, then put a meter across the actuator terminals and the current went round yet when I put two and two together, it doesn't work and I have no idea why so I thought ask people who know more about it so anyone think of a reason why?

what is the resistance reading on a multimeter applied to the two terminals of the actuator?

im not too sure but the set up hasnt changed, it just stopped working

Matt if you don't bother to test each component individually and assist those trying to assist you remotely then there is bugger all that I can do to help. I don't know your setup. I don't know what it looks like or how it is set up. There is NOTHING I can do without some background information. :roll:

well im not sure since my dad tested it for me while i was away but its x2 12v packs in series to give 24v into an electronize rc switcher which powered my dunkenmotoren actuator

im afriad i cant give any more info than that since i dont have any more :sad:

Something changed in the setup, otherwise it would keep on working.

Step 1

Your batteries give out 24V. Charge them, use a 50W 24V lightbulb, and messure voltage when lightened.
Report voltage fresh from the battery without use, and the voltage in use here.

Step 2
Messure the linaks resistance. Report here.

Next bit involves testing. But that will be done after we know the numbers asked.

Batteries are all working fine and we think the resistance is about 5 ohms, yet we believe one of the magnets in he motor may have gone

so you are saying when you put the motor on a battery nothing happens? have you taken the actuator apart?

Yep, put it to the batteries and nothing yet put a volt meter to it, the current goes round. I took the motor out of my actuator, put a volt meter to it, current goes round and put it to the battery an still nothing

Not a very powerfull motor @24V , won't take much to stall it-before reduction gear.

Tried to get into the casing but i can't get into it, might be easier to buy a new actuator and have the garentee it will work ;)

Never used an actuator, but can't you just replace the motor?

try finding a new motor for a actuator they no longer make and that has the same dimensions, fittings and gear ratio :lol:

are you sure your battery works ie does it power another motor ok ?

i have a redundant old actuator motor i have no use for might be able to make it fit your setup

If you can build a robot then surely swapping a motor for one that wasn't quite intended is the least of your worries!

just a thought, the actuator in Cylon has limit/inhibit switches built in. If you just tape these together then they stop it working. They need to be open circuits (ie: individually taped) to stop them interfering with the action.
