Building my first robot /W Design Idea.
Hey, there guys I'm new to this fantastic helping forum (I only signed up today). I have been wanting to build a robot for quiet some time now but I just havn't had the advice, money or time to do so... I am a real newby this being my first ever build. I have a little experience in Nitro rc cars and electric also I have had an indoor flyer (Helicopter)
Here are some of my design Ideas:

Please comment and advise me :) (I Know my drawing and designing is bad so Shh :P)
I estimated that the components from Robochallenge would set me back about £230 (Without armour, Baseplate weapon etc)
These parts including:
A battle switch,
3 12v drill motors (one for weapon but I may upgradto a 24v)
Verticale and horizontal mounts for the motors,
100mm blue wheels W/ nuts,
The DX5e with reciever,
Red and Black Meter long wires,
A quick charger.
What else am I missing out? and have I got the corret essential components listed? And how much would the baseplate and armour be? (description on diagram)
Thanks
-Jay

Re: Building my first robot /W Design Idea.
You forgot batteries :P
Oh and get rid of the [img] tags from the original post so people can just click onto them and see.
Re: Building my first robot /W Design Idea.
Yeah I forgot about that :) Should I get the one from Robochallenge or invest in a better brand? (I Probally wont have the components till christmas :()
Re: Building my first robot /W Design Idea.
You want something a bit more serious than a drill motor - ESPECIALLY a geared down drill motor which won't spin very fast at all - to power a spinning weapon.
If you aren't going into the massive can of worms that is brushless (ludicrously high power to weight ratio, but expensive and prone to regular failures), something like a car fan motor, couple of overvolted speed 900s, or if you're feeling a bit better off a couple of overvolted 18v dewalt motors or such like will give you a creditable weapon.
That's not getting into the really nuts stuff like multi-kilowatt brushless or magmotor setups which the really scary spinners are using, though that will set you back a LOT of money so I wouldn't recommend it for a first robot.
*has massively disregarded that suggestion on berzerker!*

look on
http://www.technobotsonline.com/
and u forgot a speed controller (or motor controller  ( its a thing that controls the speed of the moters)
u will need 3 speed controllers or 1 dual (i would go with sabertooth dual) and 1 single speed controller
but i am NOT AN EXPERT

Re: Building my first robot /W Design Idea.
Thanks guys, What batterys should I get?
Re: Building my first robot /W Design Idea.
nimh are probably your best bet as a first option. Car racing packs usually do the job fine and are relatively cheap and difficult to screw up.
Re the mag on a feather spinner, only two feathers have, vortex and hornet and it was a pain fitting the weight in a featherweight so I ended up with a motor that weighed the same as the disc i was using in hornet.
Re: Building my first robot /W Design Idea.
Actually Gary LS3/Poop-a-Scoop has one as well.
To start with a spinner is a risky move, it may well be worth your while to attend one of our events first and get some information direct from the sources. Whereabouts are you from Jay ?
Re: Building my first robot /W Design Idea.
Hmm, I really not sure what Weapons motor to get any suggestions. (My budget is roghly £300 I could maybe push but I will be building it over a couple of months)
