Dave has just noticed this contoller from Robot-solutions.com. Just wanted to know what people have heard or seen. We need a new solution for Turbulence. Dont think this will be a patch on a Vantec, but if it does all the things it says the fair enough.
What conerns me straight away is that the 80A per channel, doesnt say if it is continuous or peak.
We welcome peoples opinions.

There is not much difference between de Sidewinder and the RS80D.
But the Sidewinder to me looks more durable and the casing is much better. The casing also reduces interference in the robot a lot more than the RS80D.
Apart from that the RS80D is heavier than a Sidewinder.
But it does have an AUX channel so that is a plus for the RS80D.
That and its price that is pretty good make the RS80D a nice controller. But I still prefer a Sidewinder.
But the saving in weight and little other things doesnt make up for the very large price difference!
im biased, in that i have in interest in sidewinders, but id say that having no repair service, or very limited at least, for the rs80d is a big negative.
my next sidewinder order is now going to be in the new year, so there is plenty of time to decide.
RS80D is cheaper and has more features. Also, in all honesty i dont think me or Ed trust Sidewinders in heavyweights just yet, seen to many blow up.
Ed- Had a reply from robot solutions about there suitibility to use in Turbulence:
750 W motors should be no problem for the RS80D. I believe there are a few people using the RS80D with those motors.

thats a fair point Dave. Although there were reasons other that them simply not able to cope, such as the current limiter problem we corrected, it will take some time to earn back your trust.
I currently run wheely big cheese on a sidewinder, Leo runs a machine aswell, I think KAPOW either has one ready to install, or runs it at the moment. There are others too, but as you say, only performance in competiton proves the product, so i expect much more interest in 2007 as these sidewinders prove themselves.
What warranty do you offer on the sidewinders?
Being one of the roboteers who does run Sidewinders in heavies, so far I have blown 2 sidewinders before the current limit problem was fixed. But the first Sidewinder in Hannibal held on with 2 littons on 36V for nearly a year, and it took a broken gearbox and a litton with its wireing seezing up the motor to accomplisch the blows.
Apart from these blows that were not the sidewinders fault, Sidewinders have proven to be very reliable in all my robots. Big and small.
