New Roboteer
Hi my name is William (Alex Marlers Brother) and I Im thinking of building a robot of my own.
It will be called Taser and it will have static spikes for its weapon.
I have chosen not to use the zeobot kit but to purchase the parts separately.
Please can you post some info on parts I can buy.

Hi william
welcome to the roboteering world!
there are loads of shops that sell robot parts and kits to get you started in the world of combat. The main ones are-
Technobots - http://www.technobots.co.ukwww.technobots.co.uk these guys do tones of stuff, everything for heavies and feathers. they also produce the zeobot kit that you were talking about.
http://www.RobotCombat.comwww.RobotCombat.com - These guys are in america and do loads of top of the range stuff, check out there site.
Robo Challenge - http://www.RoboChallenge.co.ukwww.RoboChallenge.co.uk Thats my company. We do loads of parts from motors, speedos, battries and radio gear. Basicly everything you need for featherweights! we also do our Challenge Kits which make a great starter for roboteers and can be produced in over 50 different ways.
Gimson Robotics - http://www.Gimsonrobotics.comwww.Gimsonrobotics.com Home of ewan gimson. there are some cheap drill motors on there and plenty of bits and bobs for your machine. Its a new site but loads more to come soon ive been told.
Xbotz - http://www.xbotz.comwww.xbotz.com James Bakers company. not too sure exactly what there range is but i think he sells parts for featherweights. he is the exclusive supplyer of the new sidewinder speedo, looks good but not heard much about them though.
hope that helps

Welcome william well maybe if you are starting out and dont want to spend much then look a little closer to home for some of your bits mine has the electrical stuff motors etc from an old rc car but my wheels and armout are from an old car radio and a broken cd drive sure it may not be as good as the top of the range stuff but it sure saved on the pennies!!!

Hi William,
Heres some advice if you want to build a simple robot yourself.
Pop to your local model shop, or technobots for a cheap 40mg 2 channel radio set. (£39.99)
Pop to your local focus Diy and buy 2 x 12v drills costing £12.99 each, while your there get some plastic wheels (£3.99 ish).
Either buy two electonise speed controllers 30A (£39.99 each) from somewhere like technobots and a mixer board (12.99).
Or buy some cheep micro switches and use the servos which come with your Radio set.
Some simple wiring.
Use your batteries and charger which came with your drill for your robots power.
Go to your local plastic supplier, and route through their scrap bin. Pick up a load of polycarb for £10, or even use some wood for your chassis and body.
Bit of time and effort.... and you have your own robot.
Im always available if you need any assistance.
Welcome to robot world.

Hey William,
Its cool youve thought of making a move into robot combat - and great that you want to build your own bot from the ground up, its certainly more rewarding that way!
I might have some of the things youll be after to build your bot on http://www.gimsonrobotics.commy online store, so please do have a peek.
Please feel free to ask any questions either on the forums or email me direct (address(es) on profile) and I for one am all too happy to help.
