11th-15th 2005 Jan RoDs, Dublin
Robots of Destruction (RoDs) is changing the format of its annual show in Dublin€™s premiere event venue, the Royal Dublin Society, to produce a full competition this coming January.
RoDs, in association with EsatBT€™s Young Scientist exhibition, will be holding the first major combat robot competition ever held in Ireland.
The RoDs arena is a 10.5 m2 €˜class 2€™ arena that is situated in the centre of tiered seating. We have a full lighting and sound rig and extensive pit facilities. Last year we had in excess of 38,000 visitors.
We are looking for 24 heavyweight robots for the contest and eight mechanoids for pre and post battle shows.
Please register your interest by emailing rods2005@diotoir.com by 12th of September and an information pack will be forwarded to you.

Firstly, I must apologise for not posting for so long. I have spent the past several weeks negotiating with EsatBT and heres what I can tell you.
The contest is definitely going ahead from Thursday 13th of Jan to Saturday 15th of Jan 2005. It will be a live event but may be filmed.
Teams will have no more than two members. I am still negotiating competitor expenses with EsatBT but we will be covering food, accommodation and ferry.
I am also still negotiating the prize monies but the principle has been agreed that there will be a nominal appearance fee and every fight you win will have prize money which will accumulate as you progress.
First round losers will have a second bite in a losers battle.
There will be a fixed fee for mechanoids.
The accommodation for teams who have to travel will be for 2 team members sharing and will be for the night before your first fight until the night of your last fight. Mechanoid teams will be accommodated from Wednesday Night to Saturday Night.
The rules will be fairly standard so no surprises.
There will be a pits area with welding facilities for steel and aluminium and possibly titanium.
CO2 will be available.
Mechanoids will be allocated a frequency band so it will be important to have multiple crystals.
If you are serious about coming over for this great event, the please fill out an application form which can be found at:

Finally,
I am open to suggestions for any other robots or related demonstrations that would help enhance the show between fights.
Thanks for your interest,
Pete

Thanks to everyone who has completed an application. We will be sending invitations to all suitable robots very soon. There is very little time left so if you want to be considered, fill out an application form ASAP.
Oh and Kane, the application wasnt directly ripped but does have a surprisingly similar content to, and is probably loosely based on, an application seen elsewhere on the web :P
Thanks again and when I am allowed to tell you more, I will,
Pete
