Massacre - Build Diary
So this is a thing.

After the total failure last year I'm giving the overhead bar another go. 4wd with GR01, 5s lipo and an inrunner brushless motor powering the bar. Made out of aluminium, Hardox, titanium and polycarbonate. The main aim is to suck less than the first one.
Yeah its more than a little flawed and the design is dull as dishwater but I'm happy its got this far. And before it is asked, yes I have sorted out a safe link placement.
Big thanks to Ellis, Mario, Joey and more for putting up with me or helping with parts.

Just to do an impression of Jamie's thread. Materials arrived.

I just had to do an instant Pretend-O-Bot with the aluminium. It would have been rude not to.

Parts for the weapon gearbox

My motor mount which, for the record is more \m/etal and hardcore than the one Ellis made for Rango.

Another Pretend-O-Bot shot, but this time I've milled the angles onto the front.
If you want rambling and pictures spammed at you, you can go here: http://bodgeitandhope.blogspot.co.uk/
Will post more when more things happen, as is customary.
Thanks for reading. Harry.

Looking good, always liked the overhead bar spinners, not too many of those about I don't think. How tall is it overall? Looks pretty flat, and that's definitely going to work in your favour for a bar spinner, naturally!
-
Thank you. Bar height will be <75mm
-
That puts me in a spot of bother then! HardWired II's 80mm-ish...
Definitely interested to see how it performs when it's finished!
-
<75mm? Jeez, that's low, you're gonna be able to hit Ricochet with that! Now I'm scared! Two questions probably already answered in this thread, how fast will the bar spin? And won't it move quite slowly due to the small wheels?
-
I should be hitting the low wedges, that's the plan at least. But I think you're safe Mr 30mm HDPE.
It is geared for about 4000rpm, which is way too fast imo. I will probably rarely go to full throttle.
Yep it will be slow. 5.8mph. I didn't want to monkey about too much with drive motors. Ah well. Swings and roundabouts.
-
More worried about Flow to be honest, that 2mm Ti is feeling less and less safe each day...
-
I'd guess 4000rpm would put the speed at the edge of the bar pretty high! Might genuinely put the second layer of HDPE on HardWired just to be sure in that case...
As for speed though, it's not that big of an issue really since you're protected across all sides by the great big spinning bar on top, so it's not like you need to outmanoeuvre anything, unless your bar stops spinning for whatever reason. I'd assume that the smaller wheels put pushing power up though, so it's like you say really - swings and roundabouts.
-
5-6mph, for a massive spinner, is really not unreasonable. The amount of bite you get at even 2mph @ 4000rpm is pretty huge. This thing is going to be devastating dood!

Yeah man. Also I think you need to like, stop building your awesome robot for a bit and make my pulley? kthx
