Been thinking about motors for a disk today and as brushless is out my range and speed 900's are under issue was wondering about the minimag(E30-150) to drive a disk but want some other opinions?
Proposed disk for it to drive is 1.5kg twin tooth

brushless is out your range but you will spend near enough £100 for a motor from the states (incl delivery and taxes)? Brushless can be done on the cheap with effective results.
Smaller scorpion motor with a cheap esc job done.
What would you recommend?

The ESC is really good value for money, although it was only £69 when I bought it last year. Likewise, the Scorpion motor was £85 when I got it, seems to have shot up quite a bit now though.
You can get cheaper alternatives (try HobbyKing) but I couldn't say how the cheaper/lesser known brands compare to each other.
Well if we stick with scorpion motors because they are high quality and if it gets nackered you can send it back to scorpion and pay a cost price for a replacement (done it myself before)

Something like the above wouldn't be a bad shout. Only thing you will have to keep in mind is the KV rating. Basically take this number and multiply by the number of volts you will be passing through the motor to get the motor rpm.
Twice the power as well.
Esc wise well tbh I haven't had great luck with the more expensive esc so this year I'm going to run some dirt cheap ones and see how it pans out.

The advantage is that I can order a bunch and hack some for my drive whilst using the others for brushless drum weapon
Sorted now, running not only a mag, but the A28-400 ehind a disk thats 1.5kg! Thanks to a very nice roboteer that shall remain unnamed but this is turning into a machine thats going to scare me! That disk will fly
Probably goes without saying, but make sure to build the chassis strong enough to cope with that, otherwise the only flying the disc will be doing is flying out your robot and across the arena :wink:
Surely for a weapon as comparatively light as 1.5kg, the BIGGEST ampflow is insane overkill?!

You are putting a $419, 4.5 horsepower, 3.1kg motor in...
Just for the weapon?
For comparison Revo's weapon is powered by a Speed900 clone (£12) and an £8 ESC.
You can get a decent Brushless system from HK for £50.
