RE: Prizes
Kudos is enough for me, but I really wouldnt complain about being able to afford some much needed repairs.
RE: Batteries
Are we the only team who can run two fights consecutively without a charge?

i guess its like an F one car. they never put enough fuel in for 2 races lol. wasted weight.
Exactly, we will probably die after 3-4mins anyhow so i hope to have very fast high paced battles to get them out of the way with, We couldnt afford the weight of 9amp packs, its an added 2kg of weight we needed for armour.
The new one will be 9amp:)
Merlin will be fine for batteries but just gas would be the problem, so going have to hold-back abit on the flipper, only worry is it might make fights abit boring as most gas machines will have to hold back.
UFO and Knightmare have the other problem, both have old batteries which will struggle for 5mins.
Were just goning have to finish them off before the end of the fight!
Just another hurdle to overcome, beat em all before 5 mins :) (well Im sitting happy with ~10mins of battery for the feather)
Feather will be OK (hopefully), but the mag motors draw more current on the heavy than the old ones, just have to hope they are more efficent under load. Suppose we could go for killing the other robot in less than 3 minutes as well. Interestingly priced up some Li-pos at under £800 for 10Ah at 36V with more peak current than our current Ni-cads by far. But wihout an incentive to spend any more on robots its hard to justify the cost.
erm hasnt it always been 5 minute fights? i dont see your problem Mark its nothing new,
No Kane Tanto runs for a set of batteries for 2 fights on the friendly side, however for preformance we change after every fight.
I was always under the impression that the UK battles ran for 5 minutes as well.
In Robot Wars they did run for 5 mins. Battlebots ran for 3 mins.
When was the last roaming robots fight 5 mins?
When was the last XFM fight 5 minutes?
Im sure that someone can tell me when the last 5 mins fight was, but I would guess it was 3 years ago back at series 7 of robotwars. Since then they have all been 3 mins, so am I the only one who thinks fights are 3 mins and everyone elses stopwatches are running 40% slow.
Every single roaming robots fight we have been in has been 3 minutes. With new batteries we can run 5 minutes, but theyre not new anymore and their capacity has dropped, but more important is that their internal resistance has risen, so they get very hot. We used to have 2 sets, but one went up in smoke at Colchester, so only have one pack left.
If any sponsers out there can get us 96 matched Sanyo Sub-C 2400mAh cells and make them into packs before next friday then Ill be very happy :)
Tanto vs ewe 2 winter tour 2005, video i have lasts 7 minutes actual fight lasted just over 5 mins, that seems alot sooner than series 7
must admit we struggle to last 3mins never mind 5 but just have to take it easy
ive had to buy some new batteries, not sure if they will arrive intime either. But i guessed it would be likley that fights would run 5mins, and so i got some new ones just incase. It is alot of money to spend, especially on a feather when you dont know if the top prize can cover what youve spent and got broken.
Crap this is approaching fast...
One week left and we dont even have wheels on the robot... Sounds just like robot wars to me !
hmmm kane u working on tanto? no wheels an all here lol
feels like robot wars alright who needs mentorn
well i got wheels but no disc attached as of yet, its gonna be close! :)
How strict are people going to be on weight ? I am semi - confident that my robot will come under 12kgs but there is always doubt in my mind .
no wheels
I wish thats all new Merlin was missing! Just a frame at the moment, need to;
Cut & fix armour (all Hardox and Ti)
Mount valves and buffer
Plumb it up
Wire it up
Finish drive
Test
Paint
Plus all the other little bits you forget!
And not to forget Knightmare needs checking and other batteries fitting and, make Alpha a new batterypack and alter its scoop and lid.
Sounds like we are the only team anywhere near ready, just a bit of polishing on Turbulence and to put the chain on Secret Weapons weapon and a pit more paint and we are done. Might make some extra armour as we have weight Turb on two different sets of scales and it comes out 0.5Kg underweight.
UFO leaning against garage wall, ready :)
lol, i thought i was ready a couple of weeks back! but as always, things appear at the last minute. Waiting for batteries (should arrive friday) and waiting for transmitter(anytime within 7-10 days), finish self righter, wheely bars, and loads of other bits.
No wheels on Sewer Snake...but thats the only way it fits in the crate

Hannibal is as ready as he will ever be, Hannibalito likewise.
TILLY is 100% ready too ....
DIZZY101 (tilly101) had a big set back  the new tops dont fit :sad: goto do a cut and shunt ...
maybe just a big hammer me thinks :) they will fit tomorrow misstilly is a shassy with wheels and dizzy needs an overhall :P
Small Torque is 100% ready and after driving around my basement Ive got the feel for it now and hopefully I can communicate that over to Kiara.
Yeah im iffy with it being 5 minutes instead of 3mins. All the Winter Tour fights were 3mins, most get boring after 3 mins unless its like the semi finals. But all Uk Championships have been 5mins. Don€™t think my batteries will last 5 minutes. There getting old now, and cant be assed to spend more money on it for new batteries, even if i did, wont arrive in time really. So same boat as a few others then, thats ok. hehe.
So like Mark has said, people have 2 choices - go in for the kill right away, or others like John L suggested, take it easy. Hmmm cant see that happening. LOL. Some of these fights are going to be close im sure. Cant wait now.
Though i warn out from this holiday park tour, dont think i got any energy at the Uk Champs.
So if there€™s a 2 minute delay from when someone hits the pit button and when the pits actually goes down, i apologise now. LOL!!!
Cya All soon.
Mr Stu
Just got back from the garage, Big Nipper is a long way from ready, but at least the new motors are in (see profile).
Just need to figure out why it keeps trying to reverse the motors when it feels like it, and the lifter still doesnt lift correctly, At least we have a crusher working. Does feel like last minute stuff.
Fitted another LED, but this one doesnt flash  and you cant even see it from outside the robot.
Alistair, with regard to how strict theyll be on weight - itll be very strict. Aim for 12kg (+600g for gas bottle if used). There has been a 10% leeway in the past but this is the UK Championships so my advice is to get within weight in case that leeway isnt given.
Mark, Big Nipper stays a piece of wonerfull enginering.
Mark, I agree with Mario, thats a beautyful machine ...at least what I could see of it!!!
Matt
TPC
if your not working til the night before you havent done enough lol!
just out of interest, who is the judge?
So if there€™s a 2 minute delay from when someone hits the pit button and when the pits actually goes down, i apologise now. LOL!!!
Theres the sloution to the five minute fights then - have three minutes fighting, hit the pit release button, sit for two minutes until the pit actually goes down then have a frantic three seconds trying to get each other down the pit
I dont envisage the majority of fights lasting that long anyway - even for heavies.
In the featherweight comp its 4 go through from 6 in the 1st round then 4 from 8 to get to the semi finals. I dont see the point of battling it out once I see the numbers.
In the Scorpion and LS heat, are there going to be any other robots left after 5 minutes.
I really should stop posting and go and do something about finishing of the robots, been lazy so far this week watching films and going to the pub doesnt get things done!
No it doesnt does it!
Get back to work!
I was wrong in my earlier message about leeway on weight. Jonno posted on Friday and said that there will be 2% allowed so thats 2kg for heavy and 240g for feathers......
Still best to aim for the official limit rather than hope for a discrepancy between weighing your FW on the bathroom scales at home and weighing it at the event.
Wow! it sounds like all I have to do is run like a SALLY for 4 minutes and hit the pit release and hope your all tired and drive into the pit....
Hmmm note to self build a big cage around the bot so I dont fall in the pit from being dizzy from running in circles!!!
So Matt.......what if the other guy has the same idea?
new note, i think tanto can get out of the pit
New note to Matt..... Tanto cant get out of the pit if you sit Sewer Snake on it
