Lambda Delta - A horizontal spinner from Team Shock, driven by one of Will's uni mates I think.Quote:

cool cheers
Any one driver may only drive one robot during the competition. This is regardless of whether you are knocked out of the competition or not.Quote:

So, I tested Flow last weekend on full pressure and it kind of self destructed.
Heres some pictures of the old bulkheads and the new ones.

The old bulkhead in the picture was alot worse than its show there. Its been straightened out a bit to get the pneumatic system out of the robot. It was quite amusing when I fired the flipper and the robot landed back on the ground in a twisted mess.
Apart from that minor setback everythings looking good.
Ill do a bit of an update build diary with a few more pictures showing whats been changed over the last 1-2 weeks.
Hopefully Flow will be finished in the next day or 2 and should be ready to be ripped appart by spinners at the event.
I had to ask this last year. It seems to be common knowledge, but as a newbie I was completely unaware!Quote:
You do know the qualifiers are a league system right?
Someone kindly copy and pasted how the system works from another previous year, but would be nice (especially with all the new bots this year) to get all the details together.
I was just unaware as its my first robochallenge event but I get the system now
do drivers have too stay the same in whitboards?
No, I'm quite sure that the 'one robot per driver' rule only applies during the competition.Quote:

I we have 5g leverage (I believe), but the scales are very accurate (3 decimal places at Kgs?)
We used the ol' weigh our selves, then us with the robot technique last year and were grams off the limit. That was more luck though.......
Thats + 0.035%! I need to find some more accurate scales!
[ The calculation... (0.005/13.6)x100=0.0367 ]
Not being an arse, but to avoid arguments since we have a crushing robot this year.....

Pinning
It is not permitted to hold or restrain an opponent for more than 30 seconds, for example, where a hydraulic crushing weapon grips its opponent, or one robot pins its opponent to arena side or floor, to do so is instant disqualification. If two or more robots become entangled or a crushing or gripping weapon is employed and becomes trapped within another robot, then the competitors should make the timekeeper aware, the fight should be stopped and the robots separated by the safest means. The fight will then be judged to the point where the robots became trapped.
Im 99.99% sure im going to be running Flow on low pressure just to keep it more relaible. It would be nice to have the impressive flipping power but I dont want to be fixing the robot after every fight. It should still be a semi decent flipper even on low pressure.
Block of wood is ready fro some white boards :)

and before anyone mentions it yes it will have top armour on :proud:
will it have any top armour on?
Judging by the rest of the robot, the top armour will probably be re-inforced bulletproof kevlar interwoven with hardox strands. Wood's hard to come by these days.
Will it have any top armour ???
now i look at it again i think theres something missing from the picture :P
What does block of wood weigh?
i will check today
weighs 8.3kg
Still going with the bang-bang system I see? Your driving was bad enough last year with full proportionate control
excuse me
dont forget block of wood is part tree part robot its naturally gonna be hard to drive :P
yes but Beauty ? you are driving so it better be good :)
Anyone got a pair or drill motors spare? 12v really
Can collect at the champs, know its a wanted thing but it's more place specific here :)
Can anyone confirm exactly where the UK Featherweight Championships 2012 are being held. There is nothing on the Gadget Show Live Website and having contacted them we have been told that it will not be there this year. Whats going on ?

A couple of wiring questions...
When fitting a fuse to your batteries does the positioning of the fuse make a difference? For example, could the fuse be on the negative side of the battery after all the other components or does it have to bet the first thing in the system?
Then the same again for the Removable Link.
(Cos of the positioning of my weapon motors, weapon battery and my removable link I have given myself a wiring headache, moving some parts will make the system so much simpler to wire and fault find)
Generally speaking its preferred to have it on the positive side so the current doesn't go through the speed controller first.
On an unrelated topic:
I'm trying to sort out accomondation for the event, cheapest I have found is £86 for both nights. Only issue is its 9 miles away from the venue. Just wondering if anyone had already booked and had a spare bed, or anyone thats not booked would be willing to split the costs of this one ?
Just bring a tent and pitch it in the arena overnight 8)
(helpful post I know  )
Can't be any worse than sleeping in my car!
The great myth that is which way does electricity flow? I've been told so many different ways that I can't even remember which one is correct now....Quote:
Generally speaking its preferred to have it on the positive side so the current doesn't go through the speed controller first.
Conventional current (traditional version) is positive to negative but electrons (electricity) actually flows from negative to possitive so I think it should be on the negative side.
Or play it safe and have it on both!!!
true electrons are negatively charged so technically the current flows negative to positive, i think originally the believed that they were positively charged so it kind of became the common belief that it was positive to negative .......... lol the only bit i was ever good at in physics (well good ish)
and as far as i'm aware on the fuse side of things it doesn't matter where the fuse goes in the circuit it will still give up when the amps drawn exceeds the rating
However a flow of negative charge one way is the same as a flow of positive charge the other way so positive charge goes from positive to negative so both ways can be seen as right!
most people i know always fit the link on the pos side (but really i dont think it matters)
Took a delivery of nice toys for inter-fight demonstrations, incase the Robo Challenge supplies are running low :)
