We have not signed up just yet. When do the signups close. Need to work out if we can get the new robot ready in time or not.
Also wanted to know if a 10 cell LiPo pack is allowed, if not we will have to use 9.
It is a little unclear in the rules. The min voltage per cell is 3V max is 4.2V so the mean is 3.6V so 10 cells is 36 Volts (within the rules) but commonly it is stated as 3.7V which may not be within the rules. 6.2 states that the event orgainiser can allow higher voltages at their decression.
At the end of the day the maximum voltage is 42V, less than the maximum of a 36V Nicad pack.
Mark - I have just spoken to the FRA regarding this and there are no safety issues regarding running the very slightly higher voltages and so its upto the event organiser.
As long as the regulations regarding the use of Lithium Polymer batteries are abided by (such as charging in a metal container, and a minimum of 2mm metal base on the robot) then we will allow you to run 10cell lipos.
Sign-ups will be closing on February 28th, although numbers of entry will be capped and so sign-ups will likely end sooner. More details regarding number of entries will be posted shortly.
