I was just looking at workshop heaters. My shed is 12 by 12 so need something a little more powerful than the little fan heater i have. I think we should post some genius ways to heat your shed without costing a fortune on big electric heaters. I cant use parrafin workshop heaters cos of the fumes. so has to be electric........

Perhaps if i put a big pipe (size of a dryer pipe) from my window in the bungalow to the shed...then put on a 12v fan to blow warm air from my bungalow to the shed.

We found oil radiators were most effective... But make sure it's well insulated.

I'll vouch for oil radiators, they're pretty good.

In our workshop we have one of those bathroom wall mounted heaters. That and intense robot building keep us warm!

Insulate the roof Celotex is best and walls cut out draughts,
the room volume is probably less than 30 cubic meters A 2kw heater would be fine :mrgreen:
To go green get an air to air heat-pump (COP about 3.5:1) :uhoh: :D

Draughts are important. You feel the cold a lot more with draughts. Causes evaporation on the skinns so cools it further.

You really shouldn't try and warm the air to make a shed warm for people. You might have a chance for frost protection but not to keep people warm.

A radiant heater will heat any surface it's pointed at without heating the air in between (which is why calor gas heaters are notorious for causing condensation). The effect is a bit like standing in front of a fire so you just need enough to heat you, or you can put them up high and heat the whole shed. It's instant so no warm up time etc. It is no good for stopping frost and stuff though unless you leave it on for a long time.

they are all pretty sensible ideas to keep your shed/workshop warm. Any... more adventerous... ideas???

put a line of petrol around the parimeter of your shed and light it !!

once i got better matches it was quite cool !!

I feel sorry for you in the winter where you live kody.....you would need a volcano to keep you warm in one of our sheds.

Had the walker out today freaking out the neighbours. Will be at Maidstone to race Pilgrim.

True walker......Arac from the great Mr Frog. I am rebuilding it.....getting it walking just for a little spin out at Maidstone.

Haven't got room in the van for Pilgrim this time as I have both heavies and the feathers on Sunday. I don't usually bring the walker to Jonno's events these days.
But I will be looking forward to A race @ the next RL event, we could do it as one of the things between fights :D Like the boxing :mrgreen:

Full Tilt's progress is very good...will post pictures up soon on build thread.
Thor is rewired and done ready for battle.
Envy is sat waiting its turn.....not yet my dear robot
Walker is almost finished and ready for Barnsley event
Jason is also building a walker but not seen the plans for that yet.
New BIG walker project is under way with Motors...gearboxs....Speedo...Batteries, ready....plans ready for cutting. Gonna be a good build and will take a little time but will post piccys during build.

Big Walker will be around 1.2 meters wide by around 2.4 long. Will be on that when full tilt is built and running.

well trying my hand at heavyweights, i have a flipper shell witch i am slowy restoring, but to get my self a bit of experiance at the heavys i and a couple others are building a simple, cheap wedge atm with wheelchair motors, slas and 4QD's. oldschool.
hopefully we can get something moving :P

I am duplicating the small walking mech. My inspiration for a big walker is pilgrim so you better get some yourself mate cos i want competition and your it!!!!!!

The teambud Trophy has now changed a little to make it more interesting for 2012. I am introducing a handycap for the holder. Not just Jonno everyone who wins the trophy from now on will have a weapon handycap of 25 seconds from the start. This means the holder cannot use the weapon until the 25 seconds is up.... giving the challenger an advantage and testing the driving skills of the holder.

I never really figured that out either, every now and then people have drinks, it's all a bit odd......
