what kind of tx are you using and what did you do to snap it off?
Using the Giant Cod Radio Link set. Its been nothing but trouble, partly because they're built very badly and we got ours 2nd hand....
The mechanism on the right stick seized up in vertical movement, so I removed the horizontal mechanism which freed it up (not sure why that helped but it did) then when I was testing it the other day the stick stick just snapped and dropped inside the controller. I opened it up to find it had snapped clean off it's shaft. I was just testing the drive, nothing vigorous. Got some super glue on it, hopefully that'll hold hold enough to last the competition!
Is your receiver still working correctly? I have a Giant Cod transmitter that I won't be using for this event (no RX to go with it) so I can bring it along and you can use that if you want?
I use this it works fine http://www.galaxymodels.co.uk/detail.asp?id=26732
The original Rx broke, so we had to buy a new one, might as well have bought a brand new set since it ended up costing us more. Even more so now the Tx is falling apart!
But if you could bring yours along that would be excellent! Thankyou very much.
It doesn't even have a Battery cover on the back! So if you see us scrambling around madly on the floor frantically picking up AA's mid fight that's why.....
Just fitted the bane bots wheels to boner. Think I might have gone for rubber that's just a little bit too soft so they may not last the whole comp but i got a back up pair so it's cool. Super ultra mega grippy though. Looking forward to getting back into the arena 8)
I've been defeated before I'm even in the arena. Carcinus is out. Just still too much to do and not enough time, even with the fact it isn't competing till Saturday. Had problems with the drill motors too which I wasn't anticipating so that slowed things up. Kinda gutted but I was chancing my luck trying get it built in four hours.
Managed to get all the little bits and pieces done to Drumroll though so at least I can give that my full attention. Only thing outstanding is the drum vibration; if I get it balanced then awesome, if not then I can roll with it. All the important bits are either taped, cable-tied or Loctited so the vibration shouldn't cause too many issues.
Now I just need to get packed and then can start looking forward to the next three days :D
bring the bits and we can see about knocking it together :)
im absolutly gutted i cant make this event, i could have entered with spike the avenger but i wouldnt have come out with anything, and possibly some of the more expencive parts would have been damaged.
hopfully next year ill be able to compeat with ReAvenger or a new spinner (but im keeping that under wraps currently)
No chance of getting mine done now, Just spent half hour on it and got bored, Dont think I can be bothered doing anything on it. I might go back and do a bit in an hour or 2 and just build it up so it looks like a robot. Wont be working tho.
Im not finishing it and wiring it up etc but just weighed to full robot. 7.5kg Quite a light weight spinner.
Bruiser has and annonamous eletricial problem so more work for me
Alex. If you still have probs we will be able to help you sort it. You going friday or just saturday?
I see sods law has struck at the most inoppertune time. :P
The best of luck to all competing. Hopefully by next year I will have got off my rear and made a robot so I can join in.
I am rather glad I happen to go to Geoff's on Saturday after the Southern Antweight Challenge, I've been having gyro issues again, and something happened in geoffs workshop that blew up my gyro, switcher, mixer and receiver in one short sharp bang. Thankfully he had spares of the former 3 and I had Cabrakan's receiver in my box, so Satanix is ready to do (touch wood), hopefully it all works on the day.
I'm going Saturday but the electrical problem is not a major problem, the robot just loses control randomly every so often :?
Sounds like most of ours and a damned good excuse for bad driving :proud:Quote:

Bitza is running by the way. Never had time to check the power loss issues, one wheel turns considerably faster than the other and one of our 2 battery packs is knackered but we're good to go!
See you all on Saturday.
alex try your robot's rx with a battery it may make a difference
Yeh I will (if I can remember were I left it last)
I think ur coming round to mine today i'll lend u one
I'm a bit busy at the moment so I dont know if I have enough time and I think I will be ok because I think i know were the Rx battery is :?
Sadly Vortex isn't going to make it - despite investing a load in getting the robot back up and running (LiPo's, new mag, new disk, new armour, new speedo, new motors, new brass gears, new TX/RX.... new lots come to think about it), it's the old bit that's been giving the issue.
We had a problem with our LiPo's not charging which we've resolved now (loose connection when the pack was manufactured - thanks Flightpower!) but that meant we were able to confidently test the robot with a fully charged pack. Having now tested it the speed controller that runs the Vortex disk isn't a happy bunny, not sure if the LiPo voltage is sagging (though I don't believe so) or a problem with the speedo itself (although it works fine connected to an SLA/NiCad) but the disk just isn't spinning up to speed as you'd expect - and as Vortex is nothing without it's disk, there's sadly little point in entering it.
I may see if I can rig up something else to control the disk, and may try to come on Sunday for a whiteboard or two if anyone's up for it - but sadly Vortex won't be running tomorrow, and no-one's more frustrated than me. Small fortune spent on parts and hotels, and no functioning robot to run :(
Thats actually a real shame Ed, was looking forward to the fight. If I get through to Sunday, will give you a whiteboard.
Shame Ed, was looking forward to the LS4 - Bitza - Vortex mashup!
Take back what I said before PJ, looks like your on your own!
Ed, if your not going to use those brass gears, or fancy ordering me a set from wherever you get them from, let me know how much and ill give you the cash Sunday.

Who's the new UK champion?
My bet is it's bitza
Little flipper 3- about time too lol, Well done guys...
Also well done to the coopers for putting on a great show.
Had a great time... shame about some dodgy judging though.

You'd stand a better chance if your robot didn't catch on fire every round!
Well done everyone. Some very suprising results and excellent fights.
Official results will be published in the next 24 hours.
thanks Kane. Dave what happened to 540 every round?
A great event as it is always at Robo Challenge events.
Nice to see LF win the champs, Very happy they won.
I agree with Mouldy about Judging. It was a very bad call with the judges decision in the anihilator semi. I think the rules about going in the Pit have to be made very clear. I think a majority of the people at the event disagreed with what happened, And I liked how when a load of people argued the fact that the decision was wrong the comback we got was a judges decision is final . Nice
With 540 The dewalts were burning out every fight, I dont understand how they burnt out so easily. And then the sidewinder blew up. Made a nice bit of smoke.
lol... yep, the judge also contradicted his earlier statemenets to come to his decission.
Anyhow... Tom i think its because its an OOLLLD sidewinder... the current limiting was dodgy on them.... might help when rick's sorted it out.
Smoke looked cool anyhow- upload some vids.
Vids of the fights or what happened that one night??
Love the first picture.
I also like how Bitza is stuck up against the wall in the 3rd picture. :P
who's is the mini warhead?
i really was unsure of if it was actually able to be done but i can see it is, i just wonder who owns it :)
