It wouldn't be totally impossible, a few antweights have used/still use Lego parts and survived spinner attacks (Lego wheels in particular are quite durable) but you might be pushing your luck with an alll Lego robot :P

Indeed they are Joey, they absord impact quite well! Oddly it seems better to have exposed tyres than not to!
Hmm, seems like an all-lego 'bot should be a catorgary of its own. Though I can vouch for these motors, they are good, powerful for their size and the speed of the Xl's isn't bad either. And as for the control, lego now have a speed controller...control thingy bob. So you have complete control over how fast the motors turn.
Here's the start of my kilobot - it's going to be a spinner, big horizontal blade driven off a brushless motor :)

Nick that looks sweet.
Bit of a update on 180 the chassis has been machined from a billet pics below

The chassis weighs on its own 250grams and with everything in side it weighs 450grams lol, disc , selfrighting arm and top armour to go and a wire up
looks great kenny ! cant wait to...run away from it in fights ^^
my own attempt is looking rather shoddy now...
Found a offcut of p20 for the disc ! turned it to size with angles just need to profile the teeth

Hmmm!! I reckon I might be needing a hardox box for that one!!
schweeet. serious CNC envy
that really does look amazing kenny lol
in the arena, ill go easy on it :D
finished the disc,

Coming in at a huge 1050g without top , wiring and selfrighter arm so should be easy underweight
Awsome, those scales are really nice whered you get em?
That is sweet, Kenny! :D
It,s all going well :D
Is the arena finished yet. I'm looking forward to starting my Kilobot soon, do we have a date for the first event?
HAHAHA, new 'kilobot' is currently weighing in at about 3kg!!
May just go the whole hog and use it as a battlerat now :proud: :proud:
Got some good ideas from it though and got the linkage sorted for those GiantCod jumbo servos.
Any pics? :)Quote:

I'll do some tomorrow, just started off as a bit of an idea so i slapped some polycarb together. Build quality was not a consideration as it's just a rough mock up for now. It ended up looking like it does because Luke said 'have you seen 180?....................after watching RW extreme on Monday we should put a scoop on the front and make it look like Behemoth!!'.
Thus we have a scoop on it.
Second generation will be half the size but I'll post some pics.
Andy
You made a robot 3 times the weight limit?... Fail
Is it possible to get a pic of 180, when your holding it in hand or something? Just cant imagine the scale/how big it is! :rofl:Quote:

Some spinner fights could even be possible in the Robo Challenge arena during a free time slot providing James and Grant are asked and give their permission beforehand.Quote:

Out of interest, what is your design? A mini Saint?
Yes mate i got a pic a few days ago next to a cup for scale, also thanks to gary for showing me a website what works out the KE energy for spinning disc and its coming out at 4.4KJ what is even very good for a featherweight so this should be fun! also a video of the first spin up on a flat lipo and half throttle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcS4ps3kZbI

Half throttle AND flat lipo?!!
I'm just going to bin my kilobot chassis now and be done with it
Although there may be a ray of hope that could be revealed by this question: Kenny, are you putting a magnet in it?
nope i wanna see it fly! :)
Yep, fail indeed  :rofl:Quote:

Not quite on the 3kg mark but when i weighed it earlier today without the lifter it was at around 1kg and the servos weight 300g on their own witout the lifting arm and scoop. It's built from some 6 & 10mm polycarb I had kicking around and some 12mm nylon 6 so all a bit on the big side for this weight class especially seeing as in most places it's 18mm thick. I have a bunch of 1mm & 3mm ti kicking around but didn't really want to use that for the 'development' stage so it'll come down a lot if I want.
I'm actually more inclined to beef it up and use it for the battleratz and start again with a single servo and heavier metal armour. Will stick with the same basic shape just go for everything a bit smaller. Reckon with 180 around, armour is going to be the big thing. That really is an impressive machine!!
kenny thats rate good, but ya no its gonna fly off as soon as it hits something :P
Woah, surely it's got to be clocking surplus of 10,000rpm for that much stored energy?
17000rpm :) 4.4kj is awsome considering 360 is 18kj and the original hypnodisc was only about 6kj.
Lets imagine that hit the wall and the robot inherited most of the energy, it'd fly off at a (pointlessly theoretical) 270km/h.. here's gambling something breaks instead =p
Might want to tacho it to see what it actually goes up to, you won't actually get to your no-load rpm you know :P Ive got a laser tacho knocking about somewhere, you just put a sticker on the disc or whatever and bounce the beam off it - be happy to bring it to the first kilobot event :)
Here's my attempt- decided to go for something a little bit different this time.
It is a 2 wheel drive robot with an interchangeable weapon bay at the front- i've got 6 different setups planned- the first one has been built and fitted- a drum spinner
Heres the stats
Name- not sure yet
Weight: 1.275kg at the moment- will be around 1.35kg with the second battery fitted
Length: 20cm
Width: 21cm
Height- 5cm (with no weapon)
Drive- 2x MFA 30:1
Speedo- Sabretooth 10A
Battery: 2x 1000mAh 2 cell LiPo
Weapon Setup 1: 200g spinning drum with 6 teeth powered by a large brushed motor on 1:1 ratio- Blue speedo to control it
Armour- 5mm HDPE
More weapons coming soon- i'm hoping to make an upgraded version of the drum with a better made drum and a brushless setup to give it a bit more power- this one seems to work reasonably well to start off with.
I'll get a video of it running online tomorrow but heres a photo of it as it is right now
looking good, any ideas what other weapons you'll try to fit into the front?
I'm even more keen to see the video now that I've seen you're using the same motors (and roughly the same size wheels) as I'm planning on so will be good to see what sort of speed they move yours along at. I asked on FB if it was all HDPE construction but should've checked here first as that's clearly answered :)
In case anyone's interested I've one of these http://robotbirds.com/catalog/product_i ... ts_id=4059 spare, perfect size for most beetles if anyone wants it. I'll send just for the postage cost.
Hello :)
PM sent
Heres a video of it running

Also some vids, if you go onto my youtube channel it shows it driving etc on it

Did you ever see the floor in the RR arena after a few fights?
yes mate, we are making our own arena for the kilobots and will have a steel floor so hopefully it will stay flat lol
That is good to hear :) Also the driving on the flat floor looks very promissing.
Put in HD!
