Then you'll be fine without a locking bar.
Is Tormenta 2's weapon likely to come under scrutiny then? The weapon can technically move without power but to do so you've got to go backwards through about 100:1, it's very hard and we avoid doing it.
Would have thought being able to move without power would be a good thing anyway, if a weapon were to trap someone's hand the bot can be turned off and the arm lifted out of the way, which wouldn't be possible if it could only move under power?
Moving when not under power is fine in regards to what your saying Ellis as it would be easy to untrap a hand - but it won't trap it with a locking bar :P
There's some common sense really when it comes to locking bar's. If there's any possible way that your weapon may be able to harm anyone then put one on just incase. Usually slow moving weapons won't need one as it's mainly for robot's with weapons like flipper's etc for when arming up etc.
Well we have absolutely no reason to believe it might be problematic as in terms of safety (failsafing etc) we have never had an issue. We passed check at MMM without them batting an eyelid too, so we're happy with its safety.
Also, it's about time I say it, we're going to have to pull out Grabbererer. We just don't have the assets this time. We can make a much better bot if we leave it for next time.
We're happy to leave the 5 quid for someone to fill the gap. What happens with our spot, guys? I'm sure there were people who were simply too late for the signups and have a bot that can compete, I'd love to see someone in that situation get their chance.
Sorry for any inconvenience.
Tormenta 2 will be entered as planned.
Ellis - your going to get it on CoD now! haha.
All of the reserves list was taken up when we moved to 48 robot's. However, as there is a space now available, if anyone want's to enter please post on here or get intouch with James or I and we can get that space filled up. Don't force me to have to get PloughBot working!
What about Laser 2? (forum username 'Laser')
Ben didn't get signed up before the places got filled but he posted a video featuring some of its upgrades recently and was gutted that he missed out on a spot at the champs. It's a nicely made robot and would be good to see it again.
Too easy for Beauty 2!
If Laser 2 want's to sign up tell him to post or get in touch and we can get that sorted.
I would come if i could, but since to rugby commitments i am unable to make it this year, its such a shame since i really wanted to test out the upgrades. Oh well theres always next year i guess

I've only had time to have a quick look at the draws but I think LS4 could be in with a chance. It's draws could be very much to it's advantage, it did very well a couple of years back.
Only problem is the fight with BitzaWood, which BitzaWood will have to win, but almost could have been perfect..... ;)
As for my draw, 2 rambots, 2 axes and 2 horizontal spinners. Horizontals will be an issue with my vertical weapon, do I take it off?
Your disc itself will be fine but I can see the supports possibly going. As a comparison, Will took off his 12mm thick disc against NST as he was afraid it would get bent. I left my 10mm disc on against NST and it mostly survived; it had a big nick out of it but that was all. Up to you really, you know your machine better than anyone else.
For those fighting Binky...

How do the teeth look after those collisions?
They took on about a 2mm radius against the bar in the first test. Nothing changed when we attached the Belling. We could sharpen them again but I think we will leave them like that as they are not compressing any further so should be fine in combat.
Looks a dangerous machine!
I've just realised that all 3 of Team Toon's entries are seeded!?
:proud:
That's some impressive consistency!
Also noticed just how many robots are from Nottingham!?

Conker II and Binky
very nice work :)
Ok less than a month to go, how are the bots coming along?
Smoking !!!
Lots and lots of tidbits to be done to bring it up to 100%.
Binky is getting there... Conker is an empty shell. All the electronics and wiring to do and 1 more piece of HDPE to fit across the back.
Still got to order those relays to... :-P
if you are talking about those 100a solid state relays from aus i would order quick as they take a few weeks to arrive.
I am having to change. The original version ran a 100A 30V relay but now i need a 80A 50V relay cos the voltage increase. Just ordered it from Active Robots so it shouldn't take that long.
I've just stripped Satanix down to clean all the sawdust out of it, cut out some bits for weight reduction and disced down the paint to the metal so I can give it a proper paint job and take the burrs off the (w)edges.
Just tidbits to do here too. Beefed up the welds on Drumroll's teeth which has knocked the drum out of balance so needs a bit of adjusting with a grinder/drill. Need to raise the limit switches in Carcinus up a bit as the actuator skimmed over the top of the outer one at Barnsley and ripped itself apart (all fixed now).
Gonna strip them both down after the GSC event and Loctite every bolt/cable-tie every connector in preparation for the champs and then they should be good :)

I've got to balance the bar, then sort out a way of controlling it. Most of the safety stuff I've got covered, locking bars, fuse, lipo bag, cradle and sharp edge protection. Got about 70-80% of the wiring done. I keep taking the thing to pieces and putting it back together so I am used to stripping it down for repairs.
Just realised its three weeks on Friday, time to get my finger out and start getting ready. :uhoh:
@Harry, what are you doing about the link? I've always liked the idea of making a OverHead but could never think of a position to place the link where it wouldn't take my hand off.
Just ordered the final parts for the upgrades to Inertia- just need to get round to working on it now hopefully on Friday when I get home.
What have you got planned?
Predator is almost ready, fitted the links just need to wire it up then fingers crossed its ready for testing.
Just need to charge the lipo's, and make a locking bar for 720's drum, Then organise all the spare parts.
