Simple but expensive!!
thaty looks like it would turn a tank. very expensive too. still i do like it :)
Shane your motor and screw drive is perfect, but instead of having a microswitch to limit the travel you use it to control the motor drive relative to a separate block on the steering arm, this is controlled from a standard servo. This is very hard to put into words!
I will try to do a better picture layout for you, but it will probably be later today - I have to go xmas shopping(yawn).

enjoy trev. done all mine :)
Shane - on my profile is a sketch showing roughly how the system works. I have not added microswitches to limit the travel as you can work that one out.
The wiring is the key, as by using 2 changeover relays, when both relays are off the 0v connections short out the motor contacts and slam the brakes on. Without this the steering will tremble
When the sliding block moves it triggers a microswitch that makes the motor chase the block. When the block stops the motor will stop when the steering arm with the relays attached catches up. When you release the joystick on your remote the servo centres itself and so does the steering arm. The limit microswitches are wired in line with the trigger m/switches to switch off the relays.
Hope that makes sense!

gonna go with your setup trev. i will let you know when its complete but there is no hurry at the mo. i wanna take it to the fairford event to race around on an evening. you can inspect it there. and i am sure john bell would like to play too. :)
