Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
Grant/James
Do we get tickets for the Gadget Show Live Show this year. If not is their anyway we can purchase some?
-
Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
as far as im aware we get passes that allow us to wander throughout the entire show and see it all free of charge. Not gonna keep up locked up in the arena when we're not needed :P
-
Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
It's the extra theater show i'm on about, we got V.I.P tickets last year but as their is so many of us this year we would be very lucky if we all got one! Hopefully we can though, was really good!

Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
This is more of a question for the EO's, but is the event going to run as Team Invade detailed in an earlier post?
And is the Only bring your Robot if your competing on the day rule going to apply for the Sunday?
We were hoping to stay the whole weekend and WhiteBoard on the Sunday, but firstly it seems unlikely we'll qualify, and secondly if we did then we would be too pre-occupied with the competition as I would imagine the other robots would be....
Thanks!

Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
Hi P.J, Due to the Pit Area being smaller than usual, we have to limit the number of robots per day to 20 in total for safety reasons. This is why we have extended the event by an extra day to accomodate this.
This doea mean that you are allocated a Pit space for the days that you are competing and your pit tables are re-allocated for another robot on the next day.
This needs to stay the case unless there is a large amount of Pit space spare in the first 2 days.
We do however plan to run plenty of whiteboard on your day of competition, and also choose 6 competitors that have been knocked out of the competition for the annihilator to fight on Sunday.
You are more than welcome to come for all 3 days to the show, but due to Pit space unless competing then only the robots allocated for that day is allowed in the Pit Area.
Regarding the Live Theatre shows, I believe there are 3 shows each day - if you que up before the show there are a certain amount of tickets for sale on a first come first serve basis. I do recomend trying to go in and see it! You should even see James Nick and I on the big screen LOL.

Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
Cheers Grant, sounds fair enough.
What about the running of the competition, is it as Team Invade detailed?
Well, going off the champs in 2009, it goes roughly like this:
To start we have 3 qualifier round with three robots in each, from these qualifiers we gain points for the following
4 points for a knockout win
3 points for win by judges decision
2 points for 2nd place
1 point for 3rd place (but the robot must have entered the arena)
0 points for not entering the arena
The qualifier rounds are decided by the pre-event draw
Top ten scores from the qualifiers go through to the knockout rounds, which goes:
5 1v1 fights
5 way losers melee, 1 robot goes through
3 1v1 fights
3 way losers melee, 1 robot goes through
2 1v1 semifinals
3rd place play off
Final

Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
Well just got a reply from flightpower. Lipos haven't even been sent out yet so they won't arrive for the event. I gave century uk a call and they said they should be able to get me some lipos in time for the event. Seem quite decent and helpful at century. So hopefully I'll have them Thursday. Should have the drum itself complete tonight. I'll get pics uploaded if I do

Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
Glad i didn't order any by the sounds of it! Grant do we need car passes to get through the security gates for loading, im guessing were coming in through gate 3 to get to 11.1?

Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
Inertia XL and Heatwave are all done ready for the event. Heatwave has a new flipper arm and seems to be working better than ever. Just waiting for the paint to dry on Inertia.
The only downside is that there will be no Aftershock at this event- the others have taken too long to get ready and there is so much work left to do that there just isn't enough time. I'll look at throwing together some form of replacement but it probably won't get done in time
Really looking forward to this one now :)

Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
slightly off the topic, but I ordered 2 100mm blue wheels with nut insert over 2 weeks ago and they havent come yet.
I sent james an e-mail about them and he hasnt replied. Just wondering if they are made and when they will come?

Think you probably ordered them at exactly the wrong time. I know the guys at Robochallenge have been preparing for the gadget show live for the last two weeks and been working early and late all the way through that. Zach's working with them and last time i spoke to him he had finished at 1am, had five hours sleep and then been back out to carry on. Take down finishes next Tuesday and I'm sure James will be in touch soon after that.
Probably not what you want to hear but still within the 28days I think they quote :proud:

Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
Drums 1.5 kg. Using a speed 900 with 2.5:1 reduction on 6s lipo. With the time I have it's nearly impossible to get the robot done. Love leaving it untill the last minute.

Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
thanks, I gues that i'll just have to wait
-
Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
Forgot to mention my lipos from century arrived this morning. 3 weeks and the ones from flightpower haven't even left china yet. Took century less than 24 hours. Definately going to use them again
-
Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
I used them for my Ni-Mh and they were really good and fast.

Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
Drum looks brilliant Tom, although I think your timing pulley is a little on the small side

Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
Not managed to get Aftershock running again so we have decided to replace it with Whirlpool. The old chassis was a write off so here is the result of a few hours work today to build a new one. Made from a piece of 15mm thick HDPE gas pipe so should be fairly spinner proof we hope

A robot like that can't possibly fail! I love it

Whirlpool? I think that design can have only 1 possible name. Good luck Ringpiece

Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
Never been to the NEC before, can anybody tell me the easiest way to find the hall once we get to the venue please?
How far is the parking from the hall and how much per day?
Thanks
-
Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
Looks great Will, but I just want to see it get flipped onto its side and roll round and round the arena :)

ring piece vs boner?......

Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
Theres a ring road that runs around it, im guessing will enter via gate 3 (probably the 2nd roundabout you get to), and the robots are in hall 11 entry via 11.1, no point in saying you with Gadget Show live as they have 4-5 halls, normally you require a loading pass to get through the security gate, but i'm gueesing not as we haven't had one . Parking distance will vary depending on which one you get put in as there are dozens of car parks, i think parking is about £8, not sure though as we get it for free when exhibiting.

Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
I think we are close to E car park on the map looking at goggle maps, Grant has told me it is Gate 3 we are to go through the registration numbers of the cars will be given to the gatehouse so you should make sure you drive the right vehicle!
From what I can see the car park is not too far from the Hall, so if push comes to shove you could always lug the stuff across the road. :uhoh: :uhoh:

Sounds like a whole other type of show to me :uhoh:

Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
The Closest car park will be N2, not a long walk to hall 11.
I will confirm tomorrow but it looks like you may need to go round to carpark N12 to get a pass to be allowed through gate 3 to the loading area. It was origionally planned that the guys on the gate would let us through without the need for the passes, but it didnt seem to work today!
Just a word of warning - They will not let you through to the loading area after approximatly half past 8 - so to ensure that you dont need to carry all your equiptment i would recomend getting onsite early (7.45am?)
With regards to parking - It does appear that we can get exhibitor passes to allow roboteers out without the parking charge. Again I will confirm this tomorrow so please dont quote me on that (quote Alan :) ).

Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
No progress pics as I havent made much progress. Iv started a few bits but nothing major is actually complete yet, Well I have a speed 900 mounted to a baseplate with 1 bracket. Still got to do another bracket for it. Nothing else I can do tonight. Ill have from roughly 5-6 pm when finish work untill about 4 am friday morning when we start packing the van. Plus we have to clear the van out at some point after iv finished work because it full of roofing gear (my mates a roofer and its his van)
Anyone else still have to do alot of work to get there robot ready

Yup :proud:
Took a day off work as I figured I'd need it, just about to print out all the event details, checklist, draw, directions etc and then I'll be making a start on things. So hopefully working 9-5 (don't start dancing) on robot stuff, although got to head into town for petrol, food, drinks and haircut at various points throughout the day, but should be enough time for everything :uhoh:

Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
Also just noticed that Innovation First International is based quite close to the robot zone. Handy to know if my Victor breaks 8)

Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC

Re: 2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC
Bitza is currently not running, yesterday while trying to fix the no movement problem the right stick on the Tx snapped off
And then the whole right side of the robot died completely, so got a few things to fix yet.......
