Its not a six way battle, Paul :P I think I said earlier it was like the RW2 semi finals (gauntlet, pinball, then one-on-ones)
Just for everyones information, after this is done I shall open another tournament which will be very similar to this, only with straight fights instead of the RW1/2 format, and less entrants, and a different arena, and different house robots, and...okay, its not all that similar, but it is another tournament, and it shall feature classic heavyweights (80kg) :)
Heat E final up later tonight...Andy, if you wish to participate in the arcane practice of posting tactics, now is the time.
Ram it. :)
HEAT E FINAL
Before this starts, a very big Get well soon to Jason Marston, who is having knee surgery in a few weeks.

Exertion once more starts out quickly, coming across towards Thor, which turns to one side to avoid the charge, just being caught on the rear corner by the speeding rammer. Thor moves out, and turns towards Exertion, which backs off cautiously, and then suddenly comes straight at Thor, driving the front actuated scoop into the ground to try and get under the front of Thor...and as the two collide, Exertions greater momentum wins out and it wedges beneath the front of its opponent, but the hammer swings over from the top of Thor, slamming onto the Hardox top panel with some force!
Exertion doesnt seem harmed by the attack though, and now Andy applies full throttle to the Magmotor drive to push Thor across the arena, forcing the red robot sideways across the front scoop as it propels both itself and Thor straight into the lower patrol zone, past the house robots. Exertion slams Thor against the arena wall, backing away as Sargeant Bash comes in, gently singing the top of Thors weapon as it tries to escape, turning away as Exertion comes in again, getting under the right side of Thor and ramming it again into the corner, the arena shaking slightly as it does so. Jason looks worried, trying to back Thor out of the patrol zone, as Bash rams into the side of the machine with the front blade while scorching Thor some more, and Thor pivots around...and swings the hammer right onto the top of the house robot, catching on the flamethrower as it does so...and the flamethrower comes off! There is a big dent in Bashs rear cover, and the defunct weaponry is hanging by cables alone...Jason is cheering, the audience are pleased as well, but the joy is short lived as Sir Killalot looms behind Thor, Exertion coming again to shunt Thor into him, and the lance works underneath the rear of Thor, plucking the machine into the air! Holding his trophy aloft, Killalot begins to approach the flame pit, dangling Thor from the left arm, but the hammer swings over, and the resulting force unbalances Killalot, the house robot tipping forward, and Thor slides away from the lance, crashing upside down onto the floor!
Exertion wastes no time in coming back to slam into the beached Thor, pushing it up the arena towards the upper right corner, but halfway through the journey Thors body rotates around the hammer as it selfrights, sending it cartwheeling over Exertions body and landing facing its opponent, and Jason drives Thor back in on the attack, getting beneath the reversing Exertion and bringing the hammer down again on the top armour, an almighty crash sounding from the impact. Exertion gets traction in the scoop and gets away, and Andrew thinks quickly to get back in on Thor, which turns just as Exertion rams into it again, retracting the hammer as its opponent begins to push, retaining traction with the floor due to the shape despite being over Thors front scoop, and slowly winning the traction contest, pushing back against the drive of Thor, who brings its hammer down again, just missing the wheels of Exertion but hammering down on the side armour, flicking Exertion away to the side in the continued activity.
Exertion is underneath again, wedged under the front corner of Thor and pushing it upwards, taking its opponents wheels off the ground as it slams Thor into the upper corner of the arena, as previously intended, and backs away for another slam...Thor swings the hammer back into position, but remains still in its position - Exertion comes in again, bashing into Thor, and up in the cherry picker Jason is pushing his controls in every direction, seemingly to no effect however - the hammer swings down again, scaring the house robots somewhat, but there is no drive left in Thor, it would seem, and it is stranded up by the arena sides, as Exertion spins around in the center of the arena - Andy thinks hes won, and it would certainly seem that way, Thor immobilised by the slams of Exertion, and Jason sportingly applauds the victors, setting his controls down on the shelf in front of him.
CEASE
It was an exciting battle, but Thors thunder is silenced by the force power of Andrew Jackson and Exertion!
COMING SOON TO A CINEMA NEAR YOU:
HEAT 6 - SNOOKER TRIAL (a.k.a. A LOAD OF BALLS)
Tira III
Baldur
Tempest Evil-est-oution
Worck
Ripper
Crimson Thunder
As ever, your tactics, comments, predictions and such are mostly welcome. :)
Tiras tactics
Uhm...oh boy, I am not liking this. Uh...Ill go for the right-hand route. Maybe the scoops can get under Matilda, and if she goes for the disc, shell get ripped to shreds. :) If she gets under the scoops, thatll tilt me around so I can reverse further in. :)
Not too confident, though.
How wide is Tira III? From the pics, I think she might be slightly too wide to fit through the rig :P
120cm.
And Im talking about the route with the pits...augh, damnit. *goes back to the first archive of this thread* :P
Matildas on the other route, I think...been aaages since I first did the layout, managed to forget some of it already :P
I look at it with the pit route as the left one and the flame pit/grid as the right, if that makes sense.
Which house robots guard the pit route again?
Sir Killalot, and anyone whos not Matilda who I happen to be thinking of at the time :proud: You seem to be under the misconception that Im organised in writing this...
Meh, the pit route sounds fine. I think its Sgt. Bash in that route. Still, Ill chance it. Will probably get further than if Tira took the other routes. :P
WORCKS tactics:
Ill avoid going down the middle, as Ill most likely get under the seesaw rather than go over it. Ill take on the ram-rig, as the Sentinal will go over WORCK and allow me to travel through safely.
1: There is no sentinel
2: I assume the seesaw to be infinitely low
Just saying, I dont think the sentinel was ever on the ramrig route before anyway.
Change of plan:
Ill actually go down the right route, as I can possibly get under quite a bit and put it down the pits, and also, WORCK isnt very wide, so that should help.
Tempest will go for the middle route.
FIRST, FROM ETOBICOKE NEAR TORONTO, IN CANADA, TIRA III!
This titanium armoured fighter is protected by front scoops and side and rear skirting to prevent her being flipped, and she has four wheel drive fron two Lynch motors with a further two powering the weapon. Shell spin her way into the competitions nightmares with a three toothed 25kg front flywheel, and has a top speed of twenty miles an hour.
FROM GEDDINGTON, BALDUR GAMMA!
The smallest machine in todays competition but definitely a tiny terror, with a front actuated interchangable scoop constructed from Hardox and flexible titanium foam to absorb energy from impacts and get underneath opponents, propelled by a robust 48 volt Lynch motor drive train with four wheels protected by Kevlar and tungsten, reaching speeds of 17mph.
FROM GAINSBOROUGH, TEMPEST EVIL-EST-OUTION!
Tempest sports an outer spinning ring as its main weaponry, eighty centimetres wide with four hardox teeth to rip up opponents with a force of eighty kilojoules per hit at 1000rpm. The two wheel Magmotor drive gives it a somewhat slow top speed of twelve miles an hour, and its invertible with 15mm Lexan armour protecting the electrics.
FROM ORPINGTON, WORCK!
A front hinged low wedge flipper with a name that apparently didnt mean anything until I badgered Paul about it, Worck runs from S28-400 Magmotors with high pressure carbon dioxide gas on the flipper ram giving about 20 flips on a full tank. It moves at thirteen miles an hour with the main body being protected with titanium skirts and a Hardox bodyshell.
FROM STAFFORDSHIRE, RIPPER!
A Hardox-clad yellow and green beast with Bosch motors powered by NiCad battery packs powering the two wheels to rwelve miles an hour, it rips with a front full pressure carbon dioxide gas powered flipper and self righter, and apparently only cost 600 pounds to build.
FROM BEDFORD, CRIMSON THUNDER!
Finally, this red parallelogram box wedge is the fastest machine here at 30 miles an hour, driven from four Lynch motors and Vulkalon coated tyres to provide the ramming power which is its main weapon. Armoured in hardox, flipping doesnt bother it since it can run both ways up and can defend itself with skirts on the sides.
Gauntlet coming up sometime or other, I may drop the intros for the next one since theyre a bit of a pain to write.
Quick question:
Would anyone be particuarly offended if I semi-hypoed the gauntlet and trials for this heat and restructured the final as a S4 style heat (three-way melees at the start) ?
(I wouldnt cop out of everything; Id still write all the battles for this heat and the final)
Its just that I find it easier somewhat to write battles rather than events, and also almost nobody has stated their choice of route here, and those that did specified the route that I by default send people down...I think Ive found the reasons people stick to writing straight battle tournaments :proud:
i wont be offended :)
....right, after the overwhelmingly massive response to my question, I shall assume nobody has a problem with me fast forwarding things a bit, and therefore anybody who complains will be ignored. Fair? :lame:
GAUNTLET:
All went down the left hand route.
TIRA III: Got stuck on the starting cage coming out for about twenty seconds, and after freeing herself, got held up by Killalot at the start of the route and was pushed back, although Kody did manage to rip the house robots breastplate a bit.
1.5 metres
BALDUR GAMMA: Was able to dodge Killalot easily, swerved to avoid Sgt. Bash and almost ended up in the pit, but was inadvertedly freed by Bash when he tried to push Baldur into the pit, and got across the line.
COMPLETED in 27 secs
TEMPEST EVIL-EST-OUTION: Held up by Killalot about halfway down the route, who picked it up and flipped it to little effect, but then pinned it against the wall.
7.25 metres
WORCK: Managed to get past Killalot, but was held up by Bash and ended up with half of its drive wheels in the second pit, before Killalot came back down and pushed it in.
11 metres
RIPPER: Was pushed back by Killalot, but fought back and managed to slip past, before dummying Bash to get to the end.
COMPLETED in 38 seconds
CRIMSON THUNDER: Was picked up by Killalot, who beached it on a wall and cut into one of the wheels, but Danny got some traction and managed to get down and straight into Bash, pushing the house robot out of the way sideways but failed to stop afterwards and went straight into the second pit.
11 metres
LEADERBOARD:
1: Baldur Gamma - Completed
2: Ripper - Completed
=3: Crimson Thunder - 11m
=3: WORCK - 11m
5: Tempest Evil-est-oution: 7.25m
6: Tira III - 1.5m (ELIMINATED)
SNOOKER:
All five robots had to get as many of the 21 balls in their pocket within the three minute time limit. Baldur dominated early on, being able to weave around the other machines and get to the balls before anyone else. Crimson Thunder had early success, but was shunted to a corner by WORCK and couldnt get out until just before the end. As the game progressed, Ripper was able to use its scoop to maneuver the balls where it wanted them, while WORCK had problems with balls rolling over the top of its wedge and Tempest had trouble owing to its shape, but managed to get two balls before hanging around the mouth of its pocket to catch them as they passed. WORCK and Ripper ended up in a clash to reach four balls that had worked their way into a corner, but Baldur then became involved and Ripper pushed WORCK onto the side perimeter of the playing area, rendering it immobile as one of its wedges jammed under its own ground clearance. Ripper and Baldur shared the remaining balls, with Tempest getting lucky in the dying seconds as one of them rolled near its pocket and it capitalised on the opportunity.
LEADERBOARD:
1: Baldur Gamma - 7
2: Ripper - 5
3: Crimson Thunder - 4
4: Tempest Evil-est-oution - 3
5: WORCK - 2 (ELIMINATED)
The semi final draw is thus:
Baldur Gamma vs. Crimson Thunder
Ripper vs. Tempest Evil-est-oution
I apologise for this, but Ive been in a bad mood lately and combined with the almost total lack of response to my question makes me think people just arent interested anymore :lame:, so I just want to write the rest of the battles and be over with it - so, please, tactics.
Im still interested, Ive just always been more of a silent appreciator and I just didnt see your fast forward proposal.
Tactics are to avoid Ripper until spun up and destroy it. The armours pretty thin, so it shouldnt take over long to make a mess. Killing it might take longer if theres plenty of gap between armour and vitals though.
I hope whatevers putting you in a bad mood gets resolved soon.
(Message edited by pcbore on June 06, 2008)
you know how things go around here Joey... very slowly from time to time :proud: lack of response, though irritating, is quite comon
and yeah, I hope youre mood turns from bad to good very soon, take your time, dont worry too much about this crappy little forum :proud:
Ehh... Push. Death. To.
you know the drill.
Oh well. Lets hope Macduff the 3rd can do well in the Finals.
Yeah, maybe I was a bit hasty, I was in a bad mood when posting that...still, means this tournament can get finished quicker, and that can only be a good thing considering everyones robots have moved on...thanks for the kind comments by the way, no idea how that happened :) crazy people, the lot of you...
Battles up tomorrow, too tired right now to do them.
Is there any point in asking why you were in a bad mood? :P
Im not too sure myself :P Maybe exams or something.
ripper will just face tempest with the massive hardox scoop. should be able to take hits with minimal damage. with a big scoop facing you all the time there will be no where to run and ripper will be on the look for an oota. armour elswhere is thin but there is air between armour and vital bits. good luck frank you will need it.
and joey dont worry about taking your time doing battles. when i log on i always look first at the events i have entered. and you are a good writer so its always worth the wait. and get out of your bad mood before i get on a plane and fly to kuwait and slap you boy. :)
oh and i too am a silent appreciator
:) Thanks Shane.
Is the new Ripper still two wheel drive? Im guessing it is, but its more difficult to tell when you cant look through the top for verification :proud:
yeah its 2wd on bosch 36v. fast and easy to control with roboteq speedo and nicads. full pressure with 2 80mm rams fed by 2 burkerts each. he is going to rebuild it again but in its current form its still very good robot. underestimated by many who fall victim. even me :)
Good news: Joey is in a good mood :)
Bad news: Joey has written a battle :proud:

Two similar machines here, the smaller but more controlled Baldur against the larger and faster Crimson Thunder; both have four wheel Lynch motor drive and rely mainly on brute force. Crimson Thunder is the quickest off the mark, storming across the arena floor and then braking suddenly as Baldur turns away from the attack, moving downwards before pivoting to face towards Crimson Thunder with the scoop. Danny drives his machine in again, turning slightly to get Crimson Thunders wedge flat on against Baldurs front scoop, and Baldur comes in on the defensive...the floor shakes as the two machines collide, and Baldur is knocked about a foot back, but is still on the ground, Crimson Thunder unable to get underneath the front scoop. The machines back off slightly and collide again, with the same results; Crimson Thunder has the more power, but all the power in the world wouldnt seem to be able to get under Baldurs scoop.
Crimson Thunder reverses, turning before coming across to the other side of the arena, as Baldur tries to chase in pursuit, but has to raise its scoop, dug into the ground to protect against Crimson Thunders ramming attacks, to do so; the two machines nudge into each other as they come in, stalking as the drivers try to exploit their opponents weaknesses. Baldur backs off, hoping to come in again to lift up the sides of its oponent, but Crimson Thunder is able to move quicker, and jams the corner of the wedge in underneath Baldurs scoop pivots! Alex attempts to escape, but Crimson Thunder drives in, wedging underneath his smaller machine, seeming almost like a suitcase caught on the bonnet of a car. Crimson Thunder starts the pushing, acceleratng to ramming speed as it powers up towards the top end of the arena, and slamming Baldur up against the arena walls, sending it bouncing over the front left wheel of Crimson Thunder! Baldur immediately recovers though, turning and coming back in, and driving the front scoop into the ground, bending the side skirt slightly to jam underneath the two centimetres of side clearance on Crimson Thunder, and now Alex is in control!
The scoop on Baldur begins to lift Crimson Thunder up off the ground, and Danny suddenly realises he is in a poor position - his machine cannot self right on its side, and the action is taking place very close to the arena walls, where there is the danger of being lifted over the fence - he pushes his controls to try and get off the front scoop, but to little effect. The scoop rises higher, and Baldur starts to push forwards, levering its opponent over, but then Crimson Thunder shoots sideways across the front of Baldur, the wheels gaining traction...coming down onto the ground...but Dannys relief is short lived as his robot crashes down on its side and, after rocking perilously for a few seconds, stays there, balanced at a slight angle on its skirt hinge! The wheels are spinning, but Crimson Thunder is going nowhere, and Baldur realises this, backing away from the corner, Alex merely waiting as Danny shakes his head in the opposite contol booth, retracting the aerial on his controls as he gamely applauds his opponent.
The house robots now sense that the battle is won, approaching the stricken Crimson Thunder to create mayhem. Shunt fires the axe, landing a blow on the side armour of Crimson Thunder but barely denting the Hardox, but a second blow carves into the rubber on the wheel as Killalot works the lance into a gap in the top armour, plucking the stranded machine from the arena floor, Baldur spinning in place as the house robot turns and moves towards the waiting pit. Danny shrugs in his booth, allowing a small smile to show as he almost cheerfully gives a thumbs-down gesture, before Killalots lance lowers and deposits Crimson Thunder into the smoking abyss.
CEASE
A fast paced battle as Crimson Thunder ends its campaign seeing red; Baldur Gamma goes on to the heat final!
COMING AT AN UNSPECIFIED TIME BEFORE NEXT WEDNESDAY:
Ripper vs. Tempest Evil-est-oution
Nice fight, Im looking forward to the heat final now...
Oh and although its retrospectively, I have no issue with fast forwarding lol. I think although the gauntlet is pretty cool, it relies on visual stimulus more than an average fight so its pretty difficult to do it justice (althoguh youve been doing an admirable job).
Another fight...I had a legitimate reason for being inactive the past couple of days :P but the good news is that my exams are at last finished, so I have loads more time to write fights with. Expect short, sharp, and frequent updates in the future :proud:

Ripper is off straight from the start, charging towards Tempest, which is beginning to get the spinning ring up to maximum rotation speed, trying to stop it from doing that. Tempest turns on the spot, and drives forward in an attempt to avoid the approaching scoop of Ripper, and...
CRASH! Ripper is caught by the edge of its scoop and is knocked sideways, a slight dent showing where one of Tempests large teeth hammered into the Hardox, while Tempest finds itself tossed up towards the top corner of the arena. Ripper recovers quickly though, and Jonno drives it scoop forwards straight back in on Tempest, which is spinning again...
CRASH! Again, the two machines are thrown in opposite directions, while Ripper is spun in a 360 degree arc by the impact, having been hit by one of Tempests other teeth as it was being flung by the primary hit, and the paint on the sides now looks rather sad...but Tempest, following Newtonian physics, has taken as much as it recieved, and is trying now to get out of the corner, having collided with the arena walls and lost the remaining energy stored in the spinner. Frank holds his transmitter in the air, craning his neck to look down on the corner below his box, and begins to get Tempest out of its jam, but Ripper is back in again, and with almost no rotation coming from the rim of its opponent it has little difficulty in approaching, the ten millimetre ground clearance of Tempest being exploited by the front scoop...
FLIP! And as the front of Ripper snaps shut, Tempest rolls towards the right, teeters on its side for a monet, before gravity takes over and it falls back down...against the arena walls! Frank pushes his controls desperately, and the rim begins to rotate, the teeth scratching up the paintwork on the arena floor as it tries to get itself down, slowly, but Ripper comes back around, positioning itself to get the scoop in underneath the side of the stuck Tempest...which slides down onto the ground, pushing Ripper back! Frank realises he could have a chance here, and tries to turn the centre of Tempest to maneuver it out of the way...
FLIP!
...but not fast enough. The combined forces of the flipper and the attempted escape make Tempest fly almost diagonally into the air, tumbling over the arena barrier and bouncing down onto the camera rails. Frank shakes his head, smiling to himself as across the arena Jonno raises his arms in victory.
CEASE
Tempest put up a fight, but finished that fight outside of the arena. The winners are Ripper!
THE HEAT F FINAL:
Baldur Gamma vs. Ripper
Tactics, comments, a reason for being happy that has absolutely nothing to do with Ian Dury?
Just constantly keep up the pressure, just keep on coming, try and just push it towards the walls where I can try and lift it over the edge, but just keep ramming it and with any luck hopefully something will eventually break.
Ripper beat Tempest. In a good fight.
...now Ive seen everything. :uhoh:
+2>OMG!! I think Tempest is loosing it - Storm 2s beaten it, Ripper has beaten it, very soon Envy, Big Nipper and soon every good realie still running shall beat it
For the Heat Final, it probably will go Baldurs way, as it can put Ripper in the pit, as it got pushed every way by Storm 2 in 2006, and Baldur has more grip, and it addtion, I think that Ripper might not get a flip in.
is there a nice render of Baldur anywhere so i can see it. or detailed description please
