«GeForce 4.0 vs. Cosmic Thunder 2»
These stats confuse me, so I€™ll have to do the best I can! I€™ll be nice and assume that the ground clearance stated is with the skirts. If not, then Cosmic Thunder 2 is moving nowhere. If its unskirted clearance is what is stated in the stats, its wheels will be spinning in mid air. :lame: However it seems to have moved pretty well so far, so I€™ll make the assumption that its clearance beyond the skirts is large enough to allow it to move. I€™ll also make the assumption that Cosmic Thunder 2 runs on 2x S28-400 Magmotors and has a decent CO2 powered flipper. What I find odd is that Alex seems to have fitted the skirts on wrong, as despite them being there, Cosmic Thunder still has a 0.5mm gap at the sides. So, obviously my plan will be to target those areas. Get around to those sides, drive in and under whatever the ground clearance is, push it towards those bloody low walls, and launch it into the stratosphere. I just so happened to attach my skirts properly, so Cosmic Thunder is going to have a hard time getting under me. So hopefully one flip by me will be all it takes to send it over those walls and out.
Oh, and keep trying Paul, you€™ll beat me one day. I reckon Achilles will make its way into the final, by the way.
wait I won O.o
lol, just keep my front facing GeForce at all times. Try to get under him and take him out of the arena :P
Allow me to start off with GeForce vs Cosmic Thunder, as this is the fight I actually do have tactics for :proud:

The two robots charge towards each other straight away and quite literally crash into each other in the middle of the arena. Flipper hits flipper and neither of these low wedges is able to gain an advantage here. That is€¦ apart from the advantage GeForce has when it comes to sheer torque :proud:. Cosmic Thunder is clearly being outpushed, and Alex resorts to steering his machine away from GeForce. This however causes Cosmic Thunder€™s left side to face GeForce, who doesnt waste an opportunity like this and slips under Cosmic Thunder ASAP.
FLIP!
GeForce shows why it€™s reckoned to be one of the most powerful flippers seen today (and its successor Ge5orce is even more powerfull ) when it throws Cosmic Thunder many feet into the air. The invertible robot from space drives away from danger in order to bring its srimech into play, which it does with great success. GeForce comes driving in once more but Cosmic Thunder doesnt want to meet it flipper-to-flipper again, as that put it in a nasty situation last time around :proud:. Cosmic Thunder moves to the side of GeForce with its superior maneuverability and tries to get its flipper under€¦ and€¦ FLIP!
Close but no cigar. GeForce€™s skirts prove very successful and the only part of GeForce that goes up is the right-hand side-skirt. Cosmic Thunder is a sneaky robot though and with said skirt in the air Alex very quickly accelerates and penetrates GeForce€™s body with its wedge, catching the mighty flipper between its own flipper and the wedge. With its enemy caught in this unusual way Cosmic Thunder tries to start a little journey€¦
CRASH!
€¦ to the arena wall! The good new for Andy is that Cosmic Thunder cant use its flipper when its ABOVE GeForce, and upon the impact with the wall GeForce is fried and clearly MORE than ready to fight another way. GeForce aims straight for Thunder€™s side and thankfully abuses the fact that Cosmic Thunder carried the duo towards the wall€¦
FLIP!
Thats right, Cosmic Thunder is thrown OOTA! But as we all now Cosmic Thunder is an invertible bot, one that lines up its rear end towards the wall and€¦
FLIP!
Cosmic Thunder selfrights itself straight back into the arena! The crowd goes wild, but Andy had something else in mind and the wedgebot formerly known as GeForce 3.0 attacks Cosmic Thunder€™s side yet again and carries the robot to another part of the arena, the part dominated by€¦ THE PIT!
FLIP!
GeForce fires its flipper a meter away from the wall, but as we all know that flipper is hella powerful and Cosmic Thunder is easily thrown into the pit. And there€™s no escaping from the pit dear viewers, not even in the 30 seconds the judges allow Cosmic Thunder€¦

Predictions and tactics and thoughts and whatnot
Impressive work by GeForce 4.0 - now we may see Andy finishing GeForce 4.0 on a high-note. Or maybe hell just settle for 2nd at the hands of Achilles, who I think will win the other fight and beat GeForce in the final
Is there a play-off? In that case I think that maybe Aaron will get 3rd.
Gee, Paul, you dont seem to predict Andys bots to win much, do you :proud:
Ah, good ole GeForce... The bot I shouldnt have sold to AJ :proud:
Achilles VS Wyfe Beater
Square sides and 5mm Titanium armor, something that will make it a lot easier for Wyfe Beater to catch with the big FO beater. Stick to the sides and back, they are the optimum points of attack, going heat on will probably still work as the beater will grip on that rubber nicely, but probably wont be as effective.
Hopefully Wyfe Beater should be able to be aggressive, give Achilles a lot of air time and make him his bi7ch :proud:
And http://youtube.com/watch?v=i98xLsfZlgETHIS
Indeed, one of the most awesome fights Ive seen in a long time.
The one thing I would speculate however is that youll probably go up on top of the skirts before hitting me, which should kind of reduce the effect a little.
Fortunatly its clearance seems to be relatively high, and, in a head on collision I *should* be able to flip it before it flips me... Just try and and lip it at any available oppertunity, because itll have a lot more trouble self rightign than me, then push it around.
Now I await Aarons smug retort as to why I cant do that...
Paul, Ive discussed the subject with some natural English-speakers, and we decided that WORCK DOES in fact rhyme with torque...
expect Wyfe Beater vs Achilles to be posted BEFORE the end of this month
I guess if you stretch WORCK out a bit it would.
I pronounce them differently though.

Achilles is off, frightening and intimidating like only the most fearsome Greek warrior can be. But Aaron knows very well that even the most fearless Greek warrior must have an Achilles€™€¦ heel (yeah, I know :lame:) somewhere, and beater weapon of Wyfe Beater approaches Achilles, the weapon going faster and faster. Achilles tries to avoid being hit by the beater and attack its opponent at the same time, and pretty much succeeds in doing by abusing its superior speed to outrun Wyfe Beater and pop up at its side. The flipper plate has no problem whatsoever in penetrating Wyfe Beater€™s belly. Alex fires his mighty flipper!
FLIP!
Wyfe Beater is thrown up into the air and travels a lovely 360 degrees around its axle before thumping down back on its wheels, upside up (not that that really matters being invertible and all :proud:). Achilles approaches Wyfe Beater again, but despite the speed disadvantage Wyfe Beater IS in fact the more manoeuvrable one here with its 2WD drive system, and Aaron€™s deadly machine makes a quick turn to face the incoming Achilles. Alex tries to dodge but is too close to€¦
CRASH!
OUCH! Alex can call himself lucky for hitting the beater with its reinforced and sloped front, but it was a most frightening hit nonetheless with Achilles being repelled away from Wyfe Beater big time, while actually showing a big gash across the front of its flipper. Achilles comes back for some more and Wyfe Beater is ALSO on the offensive, this promises to become one helluva spectacle. The robots are about to meet head-to-head€¦
CRASH!
FLIP!
BOTH weapons activate upon hitting the other, what a lovely sight this is! Wyfe Beater is good and well inverted upon meeting Achilles flipper whereas Achilles is swept aside, its front looking worse now. Wyfe Beater recovers quickly whereas Achilles has to deal with its flipper being bend and scraping along the floor even more than it used to do. Inverted but far from undefeated Wyfe Beater heads for the struggling Achilles, and aims straight for the side!
CRASH!
W00t! Achilles€™ skirt flies straight off and nearly takes Achilles flying after it! Achilles is inverted on the impact and finds itself in serious peril, but the ever so kind Aaron Knight is about to release Achilles from its misery even before Achilles can self-right€¦
CRASH!
OOTA! Talking about a beater, that robot is dynamite! Achilles ends up on its wheels alright, but how much will that help it when OOTA? Achilles rams the wall with all its got hoping to ram its way through it seems, but its no use. Time is running out Alex!

Post your tactics while they€™re hot!
I think GeForce will get Wyfe Beater OOTA here.
«GeForce 4.0 vs. Wyfe Beater»
Well my tactics haven€™t let me down so far, so again I will attempt the €œstraight in, straight out€ plan. As usual, go looking for that 10mm high ground clearance and get under with the wedge. Once on the wedge I should easily out push it towards those walls and throw it over. Of course, avoiding that eggbeater is another priority. However with my sloping wedge, sides and rear I€™m hoping its attacks aren€™t going to have a great effect on me. Even if this is not the case, my armour should be good enough to hold up to the hits€¦ so, in and under it, drive it towards the bloody low walls and throw it OOTA.
Good luck Aaron, you technically win either way.
Wyfe Beater FTW
GeForce FTW
We meet again Mr Jackson :proud:
Tactics are simple, attack fast, and often. Try to stay in the center of the arena as a stray flip near the walls could be the end.
Fun :proud:
Both predictions wrong! Damn! Aaron consistantly designs very persistant robots were everything is through through to be as good as possible. AJ goes for an all-rounded approach. I personally prefer the beater idea, as it may keep on turning GeForce over, course some damage.
Ill go for the win to go to Wyfe Beater.

The speedy GeForce leaves his starting square and eagerly wants to get his damn tournament over with. And nobody can really blame him, because this testosterone flipper has shown to be quite effective in this specific arena, where it can throw opponents OOTA without breaking a sweat, or, like Andy put it himself, €œmy tactics haven€™t let me down so far€Â. Well guess what mr. Jackson, the same thing can be said about Aaron€™s run in this tournament. With one of the few non-flippers in the tournaments Wyfe Beater proved to be very effective in utilising those bloody low walls to its advantage. Said Beater now places itself firmly in the centre of the arena to avoid being thrown out, while at the same time GeForce lines itself up to get Wyfe Beater OOTA ASAP. GeForce comes in powered by those powerful LEMs and Andy€™s driving skills prove good enough to beat that 10 mm GC that can be found at the side of Wyfe Beater!
FLIP!
The first blood is drawn as Wyfe Beater is quite literally SWUNG into the air, but the blood isnt as deep red as Andy wants it to be and Wyfe Beater comes down, with a bang, but quite safely onto its invertible body. GeForce comes in again but Wyfe Beater wont let its opponent sneak up on him a second time. Geforce comes and Wyfe Beater turns. Andy swiftly makes another turn to get away from that deadly beater weapon, and with success. Aaron now has the initiative however and continues his attack on GeForce some more, until€¦
CRASH!
Sloped sides or not, GeForce is knocked up and the skirt is knocked CLEAN OFF! GeForce activates it srimech before more harm can be done, which proves to be very wise as Wyfe Beater comes in again. GeForce turns around, but Wyfe Beater is still attacking. GeForce brings in the flipper, but isnt as lucky as with its first flip€¦
CRASH!
Before GeForce can do any flipping at all the vapour is beaten away by the beater. The slope of the flipper deflects most damage but still one cant deny the pressure GeForce is under. Especially when Wyfe Beater goes into forward mode€¦
CRASH!
Again its the flipper that receives the hit, and again most is deflected, in comes Wyfe Beater, but this time GeForce outmanoeuvres its opponent and comes in€¦
FLIP!
Wyfe Beater now finds itself in the same position it was at the start of this match and anticipates the now incoming GeForce. Flipper meets spinner again€¦
CRASH!
And again the spinner does most damage! The audience sees how the fight has slowly but steadily moved itself closer and closer to the arena wall when Wyfe Beater attacks that flipper yet again!
CRASH!

That final attack didnt invert GeForce, but the powerful flipper IS beaten OOTA by it! Still on its wheels, GeForce eagerly attempts to ram its way through the wall!

But with no use! There€™s no escaping! No matter how hard GeForce has tried for the past 27 seconds€¦

WYFE BEATER, UTATYA 1 HE WON!
And that€™s it, UTATYA 1, my first experimental tournament, is over. I was very happy I could get 16 people for it, though in the end the tournament took longer to finish than any 16-robot tournament should. Anyway, I made it my job to finish it and so I did. I very much liked the idea of having €œan arena that favours flippers€ rather than an €œonly flippers allowed€ approach. Only 10 out of the 16 robots entered were actually flippers, 2 of which were front-hinged and even 1 was unhinged. As expected by me there were vertical spinners, 2 to be exact. The biggest surprises came from the 4 remaining entrants, 1 was a FBS that could launch robots, 1 was just a horizontal spinner trying its luck and 2 utilised anti flipper mechanisms to gain advantage in this arena. In the end the final was between the best of the rear-hinged flippers and a vertical spinner, and the vertical spinner won to prove this tournament wasnt just another Flipper Frenzy.
This tournament also was a nice and long pause for MN 2, which will continue ASAP. I might pause MN 2 another time in the future to make room for UTATYA 2 and show off another arena one might take advantage of
Many congratulations to Aaron Knight for winning this tournament!!!
Damn you Martijn, you killed off my prediction :P
Oh well, good job Aaron and YOU BETTER WIN NEXT TIME AJ. XD
Congratulations Aaron. I will end thee yet!
And also congrats Martijn, Im looking forward to the next one. Unless Aaron wins that too...
thanks for those praising comments, Im glad 2 people liked my tournament! :proud:
Shocked, thought I would have been killed off earlier for the offensive name of the bot, or for the high ground clearance :proud:
Pending on the next type of tournament this becomes, Wyfe Beater might be back!
Cheers to all who competed, and Martijn for the great tournament
Aaron - you did well to win, and for the next Use The Arena To Your Advantage, I can only wish you good-luck :proud:
Congrats to Aaron for the win :)
I enjoyed this tournament a lot, Martijn. Its a great idea and I cant wait for the next one. Very nice battles and a good run for GeForce. Nice work!
Can the next one start already
Use the Arena to your Advantage 1 - Bloody Low Walls was the first one, whats the next one?
Use the Arena to your Advantage 2 - Bloody No Walls? Use the Arena to your Advantage 2 - Bloody Spiked Walls? Use the Arena to your Advantage 2 - Bloody Tall Walls? Use the Arena to your Advantage 2 - Bloody No Spinners? Use the Arena to your Advantage 2 - Bloody No More?
