By the way Gary, how long before you are back in the country? Could do with knowing how long I have to break into your garage and plunder it for all suitable pieces of Hardox

Add hooligan to your defeated list?
Probably so.
Hopfully so, but then again its a 4WD rambot against 2WD. I may have a dirty great hulking drum at the front of the robot but Ive also got high ground clearance on three other sides. Pushing robots over the red line is a valuable move in this competition so you could potentially make my life difficult :)
Either way, itll be good to meet another member of the community
The last time Dragonstrike went disc to disc with any one was against Scorpion Jr, well not disc to disc it was bar to bar it went 3 2 1 activate we both sat there got the weapons up to full speed then drove straight into each other wow what a collision then spent the rest of the match pushing each other around. Dragonstrikes chain came of Scorpions Jr teeth got ripped off.
any appearance money or prize money? - as i guess your making money from the tv
Got to sell it to to a TV company first
I remember that fight Tony, that was one hell of a bang!! I paticulaly remember the 4 10mm high tensile bolts that snapped like carrots! :uhoh:
Was good
o thought tv was sorted
neva mind then
i have titanium armour now, and i think you do on dragonstrike dont you tony? so i guess it will be a case of whose disk breaks first lol. i wonder what happens when 2 hardox 650 disks come together would it mangle them? i think the only thing that seperates us is you have 2 teeth and i have one, i think speed we are somewhere near the same. i have tested the disk over and over again on a old chassis, and it seems robochallenge belt alterations have sorted the issue i had
should be interesting!!

what height is the disc of dragon strike at and the same for prodigy evo?
As far as I know its a pilot show it is being filmed then ofered to the intrested TV companys to see if they want it
Yep got Ti armour now should get a good lot of sparks the shafts will prob bend first
prodigy evos disk is 35mm off the floor.
just about to put a pic on profile of how disk looks now, fair play to grant and james, the disk is balanced perfectly.
just needs painting!

Dragonstrikes disc is 25mm of the floor at the front
same here at the front, 35mm is dead centre of the disk, bottom of disk is 29mm from floor.
take out these pesky rambots first eh tony? we want a spinner to win for once! lol
Jamie I am back in the UK on Friday. I will be in Edinburgh until around the 27th or 28th so drop me an email with what you are after and I will see what I can do.
25mm Tony? Ideal height for a disc on disc collision :)
true
will also be bringing along aload of fw bits for sale once i sorted it all out, need to claw back some money for the hw. concentrating on hws now, will be prodigys last outing for a long time i think, so will fight it to the death lol
got a few fws with motors, wheels fitted, just missing rx,speedo and batts, and they will be ready to roll, all ram bots with 6mm mild steel fronts, 12 mm hdpe armour, 2mm mild steel chassis base, welded box section, all invertible.

Lol, was just kidding with the hardox, gonna just stick with the HDPE as its a lot easier to work with in a bedroom :)
Plus it should absorb the impacts and dissipate some of the energy moderately well
I dont think Hooligans aluminium wedge is going to do too well against spinners.
No worries mate, you know where I am if you need some :)
tom, i know i can take real big chunks out of 6mm mild steel if that helps, its mainly any sharp corners you need to worry about (sides of wedge) i never really do alot to front of wedge unless i get a lucky hit. also round the sides and back is where you mainly get the most damage. if your worried/came up against me just stop moving and i would understand you have had enough and leave you alone from then on. the best advice is always drive flat out and front on at a spinner, that was the advice i was given and it worked well for me.

Tom at the fw uk champs this year, 4 4 toon got well and truly trashed by Hornet but kept on running,as did Block of Wood.Just go for the spinners full on and worry about the consequences later, its a great laugh beleive me.
If im driving Hooligan it will be full on all the time. It took me a night and a bit of a morning to build so it can be very easily rebuilt after the event. The outside frame is 60mm x 40mm x 3mm Mild Steel Box Section so you spinners are going to have a hard time getting to the electronic bits inside. Only thing is i wanna repaint it and i wont want the paintwork scratching.
look on youtube to find out how to rly beat a spinner
What am i looking for?

their you go. prodigy my first ever rambot
against little spinner, cant remember the other robot off hand, it was having drive problems that day i think.

tom, will look for a link later but robots who go flying into megabyte normally come off worse then megabyte

Well if every bodys doing vids bottom of page

It is very dependant on the disc as to how dangerous a spinner should be considered.
To say drive full hardy into any spinner is a recipe for disaster. If you understand the basic mechanical principles behind a spinning disc and what makes a good spinner vs a bad spinner you can look at a machine and tell (roughly) if it will be effective or not. Obviously this isnt a full solution and relies on some experience but it is far better than driving straight into one.
To summarise what you should be looking for (and the questions to ask someone with a spinner),
- Whats its rpm? (higher rpm = higher kinetic energy
- What motor powers it? (bigger more powerful motor = faster spin up time)
- What is its weight? ( bigger weight = higher kinetic energy
- Where is the weight distributed? This is the question that shows real understanding of how discs work. For a basic rule, the further from the centre of rotation the mass of the disc, the more energy it will contain.
Only thing is i wanna repaint it and i wont want the paintwork scratching
Tom I hate to be brutal here but if you want that then frame the bot and put it on your mantel piece. If you want a pretty machine then dont put it in the arena.
I like to have a nice paint job on at least 1 robot for the events. Its normally scraped and chipped before i get to the events anyway after iv had a play with it on the street. Plus after theres a few holes ripped in it whos gunna notice the paint :p
Tom, their is a lot of advice to be had, i found every roboteer i spoke to at my first competition told me to drive flat out at it,alot use this method just ask a few people, talking from experiance i beat little spinner twice this way in my first comp, i also sent hornet OOTA, so for me it has worked every single time, also their are alot of nicely painted robots about, tony booth has a few real nice ones, i like people who make the effort with the paint jobs, its different, but it wont look nice for very long, where possible why not cover the fancy paint work in polycarb?
also you could ask me my rpm etc... but i have no idea and would probably give a false answer anyway so im underestimated lol

Spinners dont actually bother me with Hooligan. if it gets smashed it gets smashed. Its only a bit of fun :proud:
will be good to see your machines, been checking out your website which looks pretty cool
Cheers, Im really looking forward to this event. With the one on one fights we will all find out how good our machines are. Ill bring maybe 4 or 5 robots, Savage, Hooligan and Maxus are going, then i might bring Anxious(the 2wd mini maxus) just to sit on top of maxus like a little mascot. Then whatever else fits in the car.
Adrian, how many full comp fights have you had with your spinner and what is the win/loss ratio?
TK
Just a quick one Craig - obviously sooner is better but whats the latest time we can send you photos of our robots? With my computer being down at the moment, any pictures I do take cant be uploaded due to lack of camera software, plus one robot isnt built yet and the other isnt at its most photogenic stage right now
If you really need pictures soon, I could send a couple of CADs or old pictures for the moment and send updated pictures later (probably sometime in January)
took the spinner for one outing which was its first and only, had a problem which couldnt be fixed on the day. but for the few moments it was partly running it immobilised 1 robot and caused good damage to a few. with the single tooth and reliability hopefully sorted should be better for its 2nd outing.
1 proper fight which i lost then just put it into whiteboards, without the disk working most of the time
