The Fowler Fic War Series 5
Oh dear...I have walked through the portal to Punland here havent I :proud:
I think for all the problems the original Nitro-Gene had, it probably has the edge over Shadow Zone here, largely cause the rear flippers a bit small and looks a bit exposed. Shadow Zone will be returned to the shadows, while Nitro-Gene...uh....listens to Genesis records?

And the 9th heat final off the series begins! And the beginning is, at best tentative with what seems a little like a repeat of the match between Nitro-Gene and Y4, though without doubt Paul will be more nervous in this fight than he would of been in his previous as he faces a far more terrifying prospect this time in Shadow Zone. Kodys machine immediately seems to be looking to be the more offensive one, driving at Nitro-Gene with the front wedge, but immediately Paul just traverses out of the way of the incoming solid block and tries to switch his attention to the skirted sides of the Matador-esque machine. This doesnt really seem to get Shadow Zone worried though, nor does it seem to get Nitro-Gene anywhere in terms of slipping underneath Kodys machine. This doesnt stop Paul continuing to try and nibble away and hope for a weak spot, and when eventually he thinks hes found one, he fires the flipper, but ends up throwing nothing and instead just nearly topples himself under the force of the arm.
As Nitro-Gene fires himself into the air rather than his opponent, Shadow Zone realises what a good opportunity this is and quickly spins and tries to catch Nitro-Gene as he falls down. Instead of catching him on the flipper however, he only manages to get him onto the skirt and part of one of the mini-wedges and as a result cant get the flipper underneath. After a couple of swivveling attempts to get him to fall onto the flipper arm itself, Nitro-Gene falls off the wedge and skirt and continues on his way, though Pauls brow appears to be slightly sweaty as he manouvres away quickly before Shadow Zone has a chance to slip under for real. Kody attempts to immediately catch his escapee, but Nitro-Gene turns around at the last second and the 2 flippers grind together. Shadow Zone backs off and turns around, evidently trying to get back into the habit of using plan A, which was to use the wedge at the front. The machines charge at each other front first, and grind their prospective wedges together, both with an absolute zero ground clearance.
The 2 machines spend a brief moment grinding together, wheels spinning, before Nitro-Genes drive unleashes itself and he accelerates full pelt, and slams Shadow Zone right across the arena and into the arena sidwall where hes met by an angle grinder and the join together in beautiful matrimony and firworks fly into the sky... oh wait, no that[s just sparks as the aircraft grade aluminium gets sliced into. Nitro-Gene turns and manages to get Kodys machine to stay on the extension plate, before driving him into the wall and the next angle grinder along, he waits for a moment, before firing the flipper. Shadow Zone lands on the top of the fence, teeters momentarily, and then falls over the edge, giving Paul a one flip ko, and meaning hes done all he needs to get him through the fight.
CEASE
Shadow Zone was a shadow of his former self whilst Nitro-Gene, levers, or should that be levis his way into the semi-finals.

As soon as activate is called Scaramanga lets off its massive smoke screen which engulfs the arena almost instantaneously causing the audience to boo heavily as within 1 second they can no longer see the fight. Half of me is tempted to say neither can I, however that would be cheating. Alex;s machien moves around autonomously, whilst Franks tactics seems to be to try and convince Scaramanga to come near the arena wall and convince him theyre a opponent. Scaramanga isnt falling for it yet though as hes only locking onto moving targets, however this makes it surprisignly easy for Frank, who mustve eaten his carrots last night to feel his way through the smoke and around the arena. No points for aggression, but plenty for control. Frank sees a better idea though and sits right next to one of the angle grinders, which obviously is permanently moving. He sits and waits for Scaramangas smokescreen to show movement towards it, and then gently edges off, creating his own path in the smoke as he goes.
Alexs machine seems to have been falled by this though and drives himself straight under the angle grinder and attempts to flip it... immediately getting himself lodged... he tries to escape, but theres no way Frankll help, and despite the fact that theres life in the machine hes got himself lodged and is being counted out by the Refbot, the flipper plate having jammed into the bottom of the angle grinder somewhere. The count of 10 goes, Frank celebrates, Alex is inconsolable. The only think Alex has got to be happy about is that the house robots cant see anything and so cant finish off his robot.

Heat 10 - round 2 - Battle 2 - Wheel of Misfortune v La Machine

Much to everyones suprise its La Machine who makes the faster move from the off and comes in on Wheel of Misfortune, attempting to box rush it before it has time to get the disc up to speed. Aaron turns around after the first impact and tries to get some speed behind it, managing to put La Machine off for long enough to get a reasonable hit on him, spinning the former Battlebots champion away, but with little to no damage. La Machine comes flying back after being sent away, determined that hes not going to make this fight the walkover that everyone had it down as. Aarons managed to get more speed behind the disc this time and allows the front wedge of La Machine to meet him straight on, putting a gash into it but as before, no significant damage. He tries to charge in as La Machine spins away once more, but La Machine sees the attack comign and once again just brings the scoop wedge front to meet the disc, seemingly thinking the concave design is the best chance of slowing Wheel of Misfortune down enough to be able tp push him around. Again another gash in the weak armourment but no significant hits yet.
Aaron seems more than happy to bide his time, knowing hes the stronger of the 2 machines and seems perfectly willing just to hang around and wait for La Machine to come to him. La Machine on the other hand just sits there, making sure that hes got time to keep the front facing. The audience dont seem to be happy at the prospect of such a tentative fight and so Aaron edges Wheel of Misfortune slowly closer, the disc now up to its terrifying full speed. He tries to drive in at the side, but La Machine turns away to get the wedge facing. Aaron backs off and attempts to traverse around to the back, but once again La Machine just keeps the front facing. No luck for Aaron. He tries to go down th eleft side, but knowing that La Machine will turn, calls his bluff and turns at the last minute to come down the other side, finally getting the full 2500rpm into play with a huge crash. The side panel immediuately goes in with a cut in it, and it seems to be that that one hit is all its gonna take.
La Machines side pod has been knocked in and seems to be impacting on the drive as he is now only moving in circles. Aaron spins up the disc again and tries to attack the other side. He creates a huge crevace in the other side, but the machine is still driving so he backs off again to spin the disc up. Once more he comes in when the disc is up to speed and crashes straight into the already damaged left side panel. He comes in a little closer to the front this time, and this time instead of just cutting a gash into the panel it tears the panel off completely. He can see all the internals, the motors, batteries, wheels and failsafe, but being the nice guy, decides not to go for the more expensive parts and instead just aims for the wheel. He slams into it, ripping it out of the machine, leaving La Machine a dead duck. The refbot counts him out and the fight is quickly stopped to save La Machine any further humilation.
CEASE
La Machine put up a fight but ended up playing russian roulette with the Wheel of Misfortune. He goes through to the heat final

The Fowler Fic War Series 5
Hmmm...close one. Wheel Of Misfortune cant do much to May Tracks, but due to it being very wide with a spinning thing May Tracks cant do much to it with regards to flipping either. Depending how it comes out with shoving, flipping and kinetic energy Id go for May Tracks to edge a decision based on control, but it is close.
Good work Matty, some very well written fighting going on here :)

The Fowler Fic War Series 5
Tactics are to go for side attacks, and try to flip it into/over the wall or into house robots. Despite having easy to drive in its notes, it looks like an absolute b****r to drive thanks to the huge gyroscopic force of this disc.
Also, the Scaramanga fight was hillarious :proud:

And were off for the 10th of our 16 heat finals. Wheel of Misfortune starts on the left and immediately turns around to get his rear facing a rapidly incoming May Tracks. Aaron waits til Frank has nearly reached him before driving away slightly and then swinging round, bringing the disc smashing into the side and immediately shearing a couple of the bolts holding the 4.5mm Hardox side panel in place. The impact sends The May Tracks spinning away and allows Wheel of Misfortune to get his disc back up to speed. Frank stops spinning and tries to come in for a frontal attack, but again Wheel of Misfortune spins into another attack on the same side. This time he hits it closer to the middle and gets a full on impact against the hinge of the skirtingwhich bends inwards and immediately puts pressure on the skirt itself to stay on the floor. Frank has no sooner stopped spinning from this impact than Aaron gets there again and slams into the same skirt, this time tearing it off completely.
Frank moves away and seems to be looking worried as he seems ot be unable to mount a decent attack on Wheel of Misfortune no matter how hard he tries. Aaron has backed off to get the disc back up to speed having seen it slown down by the last 2 impacts. Frank comes in again wedge first, and sees Wheel of Misfortune turn around, however wising up to Aarons preferred tactic he holds back at the last moment, allowing Aaron to overshoot the move and allowing Frank to slide underneath the 10mm ground clearance at the side and flinging him into the air. Aaron lands on his side and drives along on the disc for a minute, chewing up the arena floor before the disc slows and he falls back onto his wheels. franks right back there on his case there and immediately shunts him over to the side wall, firing the flipper again, the flip throwing Aaron straight up, but he falls back down and it gives him opportunity to drive away again.
Frank attempts to box rush into the rear end and tries even to get the tyre with the spikes but only manages to get under the rear end and flips the fleeing Wheel of Misfortune up, sending his back end into the air and the front end down. The disc again impacts with the ground sending Aaron spinning away gyroscopically under the force. He soon falls to the ground though and finds himself facing The May Tracks Has You with the disc and Aaron frantically tries to get it spinning up as The May Tracks Has You comes back in for another attack. Aaron manages to traverse away from the attack though and again finds himself slamming into the same now skirtless side panel, not managing to break through the 4.5mm hardox but again shearing away at bolts and leaving one half of the side absolutely boltless. He tries to come in for another attack on the other half but The May Tracks reverses. This doesnt do him any good though as Aaron manages to get the teeth straight into the gap left by the boltless side and tears the panel off altogether.
All of a sudden, much like his fight with La Machine, Aaron has full access to the internal gubbins of his foe. Frank turns his robot away and tries to encourage Aaron to attack the other side trying to buy himself time from the inevitable. Aaron takes this invitation and smashes into the side, ripping off the other side skirt. The impact sends Frank spinnign away and with no control, Aaron finds it so much easier to come in onto the exposed side panel. In the first attack he manages to tear one of the tracks off immediately leaving The May tracks leaning wonkily to one side. He slams in again, and on the next attack manages to completely wreck one of the movement parts itself, slamming it into the body, leaving The May Tracks unable to drive at all on one side. The refbot comes in to end the fight, leaving Frank with a frown and one of his machines out of the competition.

Both machines move steadily away and both seem to be pondering the best method of attack. There's no tenacity from either machine, and both seem to be quite happy to wait to force the other into a mistake rather than go on the aggressive themselves. Eventually Acronyms is the first to get bored of this rather feeble excuse for a fight and goes in at the side, trying to get the arms round. He gets them round but fails to do any damage. Instead he decides to push him into the angle grinders, which produce superficial scars and look pretty for the cameras and nothing else. Frank opens the arms up and Wedge Devolution reverses out, scraping himself along the angle grinders in the process.
When he finally gets away he seems to be lining up an attack at the front, figuring he can either get underneath the horizontal claws or the main bodywork of Acronyms, but Frank seems to predict the plan and turns to present the skirted sides before gliding off. He appears to be going towards the pit release button, but Wedge Devolution uses his speed to intercept and tries to fire the flipper in the process, only wobbling Acronyms but at least redirecting its course for a less advantageous part of the arena. Frank curses his luck and tries to get around the back of Wedge Devolution, however Steve sees this attack coming to and spins around, getting underneath the claws with the flipper and throwing Acronyms through the air and onto his back. He flies a fair distance but this has its benefits as he has enough time to right himself. Or at least he would if he had a self-righter... umm... yeah... not so great Frank...

Acronyms has been STFU. Wedge Devolution goes through...

Both machines move pensively at first, knowing that they've already taken the first step on their bid to join the great victors. Die Ceratops keeps attempting a charge before backing off, as if overly scared of the large spinning disc at the front of SYNDOS. SYNDOS though, rather than being scared seems to be willing to sit on his laurels and intimidate, slowly turning himself around to face Die-Ceratops with the disc at all times. Die-Ceratops seems to think this is getting either of them anywhere, and so extremely early in the fight, shoots across the arena and hits the pit release button, seemingly wanting to show some aggressive intent, if only to impress the judges. It turns out to be a bad move though, as SYNDOS follows him, and smashes into the rear end of Die-Ceratops with the disc. the 8mm titanium buckles inwards but doesn't bend under impact, however the first damage points clearly go to Richard.
Chris knows that he's going to have to find something new to get rid of SYNDOS, or his number 28 seeding could be going bye-byes. He tries to turn to face, but SYNDOS is still backing him against the wall, and this time it results in a side impact, again the 8mm titanium coping with the strain of the impact but for how long. It does at least allow him to slide along the wall, but only into an angle grinder. This time sparks fly against the top of the wedge flipper and it just allows SYNDOS to get in another more calculated attack, this time on the wheels. The attack seems to take a chunk out of the rubber on the left hand tyre, and seriously dents the protective bar around it at the same time.
The referee comes into to force SYNDOS to allow Die-Ceratops out, and although Rich looks seething as he doesn't feel he was pinning him in, it's not long before he gets another attack in, this time on the other wheel. The impact doesn't tear rubber this time but it bends the wheel defender on the other side as well, and turns over the number 28 seed. Chris frantically darts at the controls trying to find a way of getting back into this fight, but Richard isn't having any of it and looks like a man on a mission, as he thumbs the controls.
He flies in towards Die-Ceratops Re-Invertus again but this time, Chris finally gets his plan into action and gets the wedge underneath as he changes angle. The flip is ineffectual though as the speed of SYNDOS carries him over, only losing balance slightly as he lands back on his wheels. He turns and makes a beeline for the side again, before crashing into him and making contact with the wheel defender, again it's buckled, more seriously this time. Chris again hammers frantically, but to no avail. The last attack appears to have jammed the protection into the wheel and is preventing drive on one side. Richard pummels the gently arcing robot on his deathbed repeatedly, flicking him over and about with the disc. Finally, as if to show some empathy, he slows down the disc, and shunts him into the pit, but not without one last attempt by Chris to fire the flipper and save himself.
CEASE
Die-Ceratops got well and truly sliced and diced by SYNDOS. He goes through.
And so, the heat 11 final.

And both robots immediately leave their marks, SYNDOS seemingly wanting to get away to spin the disc up and Wedge Devolution getting away in order to prevent just that! Both machines had relatively easy 2nd round battles, and so it seems that both are in full working order with plenty of time to repair very little damage backstage. SYNDOS' weapon seems to have been kept away long enough to be reaching the ferocious speeds that it's capable of, and it immediately brings it into bear, slamming into the side of Wedge Devolution. The 4mm Hardox withstands the damage for the most part however, one of the hemispheres on the side of the machine has been dented in slightly, but not enough so as to seem a problem, should the Scottish machine be turned over.
Steve moves his machine away from the attack and spins around just as SYNDOS comes in for another attack, which allows Rich's machine straight onto the wedge. Steve can't believe how easy that has come and manouvres him towards the arena wall, looking to end the fight in double quick time. He fires the flipper, but Rich's machine is too high up the wedge and rather than being thrown over the fence is just thrown over the back of Wedge Devolution. He lands on the disc though, stopping it almost on impact and so Wedge Devolution goes straight back in at the inverted front, sliding underneath again. He fires the flipper, this time throwing SYNDOS through the air, and once again he lands on the disc. Steve is doing an excellent job of keeping Rich from getting the disc up to speed.
He flies in again, but this time SYNDOS spins away and manages to make an impact with the disc on the side, but the speed of the weapon isn't high enough to do any damage and so just stops dead against the 4mm Hardox shell. Both drivers know that they need to come up with an attack to kill this fight off, but neither machine appears to be quite sure how to do it. SYNDOS retreats away, but as he does so, Steve seems to see an opportunity, and rushes towards the pit release button. Rich isn't impressed by this tactic though, and at the last minute manages to knock Wedge Devolution out of the way of it, Rich obviously feeling that an open pit could be more detrimental to his chances. Steve isn't going to give up that easily though and after attempting to plough his way through SYNDOS, merely spins around the back, and gets just enough of the flipper plate on the pit release button that the siren sounds and the pit descends.
Rich again retreats, thinking that if he can't stop Wedge Devolution opening the pit, he can at least stay down the other end of the arena to it. He seems hesitant though as once retreated he sits, waiting for Team Braveheart's flagbearer to come to him. Steve duly obliges, and Rich finally moves, getting round the side once more, and once again smacking into the hemispherical structure on the side. This time Steve's machine is knocked over onto his back, but immediately Steve fires the flipper, and in a plume of gas, self-rights almost as soon as he hits the ground. Rich looks unimpressed, and in an effort to gain more favour should it go the judges slams into him again, this time into the rear. The disc throws Wedge Devolution up in the air, only for him to balance back out and land back on the floor, right next to SYNDOS' disc again.
Steve drives forward, but SYNDOS matches him for speed and slams him into the arena wall. He backs off to slam into the rear, again and again, and again, but Steve becomes wise to it and manages to spin his machine around, and once more gets SYNDOS onto the wedge. He moves away from the arena wall, with scratches and scars all down the back armour plate, but now he sees his chance as he begins manouvreing the unseeded machine towards the pit of oblivion. He gets to the edge and attempts to back off but can't get SYNDOS off the wedge. He drives forwards and backwards, trying to wriggle him loose, but just can't manage to until eventually he does, however he leaves SYNDOS on the edge of the pit. Rich tries to move away, but Steve views it as a foregone conclusion, and with 1 more quick slam to the side, knocks him into the pit and out of the competition.

Nothing fancy here: get to the sides, grapple'n'pit. I doubt his axe can do much to the 9mm titanium but I don't want to risk it by getting in his axe range, so avoid the front. :P

Blendo...went through? LMFAO. It's not going to do much to Tornado though. :P
