Im not saying majors suck, I have fond memories from some of the bigger tournaments. But times have changed, no longer are there plenty of writers with enough enthusiasm to knock out a large number of battles in quick succession. More regular, smaller tournaments seems to fit the bill IMHO.

Yes, that would help. Also make it like less than half the height, and increase the length by a considerable amount.
