Like Craig says - keep the speed down. Pistol drills run too fast, so pulse the drill and apply pressure to the drill bit as it slows down - and use a lot of WD40. This method also works well on titanium.

Why is it that i see loads of Ford Mondeos with gaffa tape holding the bumper together. I think everyone should take a picture of a Mondeo with gaffa tape on the bumper and make it into a competition and the best pic gets a prize. Mabee a piece of bumper :)
Having had a greasy pole up me today,i am about to climb up my greasy pole and dance, offers please for a private 5 minutes?
Clive you really know how to make us cringe mate. I mean a greasy pole were the sun dont shine and then a pole dance. co-mon mate........bagsy first 5 mins please :)

Just ordered a nice tungston carbide countersinking bit for the hardox. Man its hard stuff to work with. Will be another week now so clock ticking for barnsley.
So tip of the day is if you want to countersink hardox it take a lot of time and money. :)
I have been looking for a carbide c/sink bit, where did you get yours from Shane?
I have taken the hardox to the engineers and he countersunk 3 holes and had to sharpen the bit 4 times so he gave up. He suggested a carbide one so i said order one for the job.....bout £30. Next time I am there I will ask him where he got it and let you know. That or i think Kenny or Grant cooper might know where to get one
i would get in touch with cromwell tools they have stores all over the country and also you can order online, this one looks alright http://www.cromwell.co.uk/KEN1200790Khttp://www.cromwell.co.uk/KEN1200790K
if they dont have them listed only give them a ring and will sort one out for you,
use with a slow speed and i would recomend doing it on an radial drill or pillar drill so you can get some pressure on it
try this Geoff

Thanks guys,
These carbide bits are scary expensive!!
I hope Im only need one for this job!
And a good job we hope it is Geoff. Looking forward to beating your new heavy. :)
Not if I have anything to do with it you wont! :)
whats that flying into the pit oh Karolines driving again
oh hush!
Karoline a heavy, you want to drive a heavy,,,,, you cant handle a heavy. That monster that geoff is building will test your nerve to the limits. It will test your reflexs to their max. It will test your ability to pick it up from the floor after i oota it :) and will test your tearducts to breaking point.
It will test my ability to pick it up from the floor - period!
Thats what big strong men like you are for
Swanny, ask around in the pits, about me, and Heavy weights. I dont shy away from lifting them. Much to the surprise, of many of my male collegues.
Now. does anyone want a drink, or has the bar sucumbed to the credit crunch?
Talking of crunch - a packet of cheese and onion please .... and a bucket of coffee :)
