will have to be proper tiny magnets
Got a few pics today.
only stayed at work an hour and half tonight so only tack welded the 3 leg frames up then loosly assembled a few bits. Ill upload pics soon.

only 2 of the plates have the framework welded under them, the other 2 are just sat on for the pic. inbetween the legs theres going to be X braces, So once i have done the other 2 floor sections and the 12 X braces the bottom half pretty much complete. Got alot of cleaning up to do. 2 full new cans of black spray paint burst over most of the stuff iv cut and the leg frames. a piece of 100mm x 5mm flat bar 2000mm long fell over onto the cans. made a right mess. More annoyed about it going all over my new trainers, and my jeans are covered in paint.
Great to see the 3 pound class has finally been born in the UK. Anyone up for a Beetleweight War of Independence?
Is that Independence from the USA? :D
Not got any further with arena last few days been busy. Going to crack on with it next week
Anyone got any ideas for the arena doors? Still unsure how were having them open. Hinged at the bottom seems the best way at the moment.
hinge at the bottom? jus keeps its self open then doesnt it-if u get my meaning
Have it opening 180 deg. Then it will just sit flat against the arena frame/legs. 2 spring loaded locking pins at the top to hold it closed
Not posted an update in a while, Dont know why. Arenas just waiting to be powder coated and get polycarb. Going to get 2 feathers running and the heavy done then ill get on with the kilobot.
Anyone got anything done yet? I know Calum brought his to Barnsley, Took 3 of us to lift it onto the scales but I think hes going to be the first person with a fully working kilobot.
H-A-H-A
after i've beat your kilobot yours will take 3 people to pick it up aswell cos it will be in so many bits
LOL. Nice.
Gunna have football / bowling ball around 2kg, 50mm-60mm dia. So you might wanna make somthing that can controll that
yh cool, still need to rebuild outer shell of mine anyway to- as you like to remind me all the time- to get it within the weight.
it will have a weapon aswell. jus need to get round to it
Ok we need some more ideas for arena hazards and challenge types and obstacles. I can think of a few now but need loads more ideas.
Obstacle Course / Gauntlet:
Unlike the robot wars gauntlet where there were 3 routes to chose from with only 1 major obstacle each route this course will have one route with 4+ obstacles (still undecided on amount of obstacles and what ones to use. You will have to drive towards yourself in parts of the course.
See-Saw Ramp 1 - 200mm wide solid see-saw ramp
See-Saw Ramp 2 - 200mm wide see-saw ramp made of 2 x 75 wide ramps that pivot independently with a 50mm gap inbetween
Rumble Strips - A row of 3mm high steel strips.
Wall - Break through wall of objects such as Barrels, Boxes, Blocks etc.
Box Push - Push a steel box out of the way or down the pit to get past.
Score - knock a ball into a net (maybe the final obstacle, Score a goal to finish the gauntlet)
Sumo:
Competitor vs Competitor
Competitor vs House Robot
Sumo Platform - A raised platform approx 700mm - 800mm dia
Tug of War:
2 robots connected by a wire or rope, first robot to pull the other robot over the centre line or the robot that pulls the other robot the furthest in the given time wins.
Joust:
2 robots compete in a pushing game. 1 robot either end of a narrow ramp. first robot to push the other robot off the ramp or the robot that pushes the other robot the furthest in the given time wins. (May have a special see-saw joust ramp just for fun.)
British Bulldog:
Robots start at one side of the arena and have to get to the other side without being caught by the house robot. The robot that travels the least distance across the arena is eliminated, unlike robot wars where if all robots made it to the other side the last robot to the other side would be eliminated we will have it so if all but one robot makes it to the other side without any problems the remaining robot has 10 seconds to get to the other side. If all robots make it across the arena with no problems the challenge will continue with all robots having to make it back to the other side, This will continue untill one robot remains.
Bowling:
A robot will knock a metal ball into a set of pins. Dont know what to use as the pins. They want to be industrial looking not like propper bowling pins.
Pinball:
Score as many points as possible by hitting/using objects/obstacles.
Football:
Dont know how to go about this yet.
Arena Hazards:
Flipper
Pit
Spinning Platform
Spinning Weapon
Spikes
Hammer
does anyone remember full metal challenge which used to be on channel 4, was sort of like scrapheap challenge. they did car bowling, car sumo, car mazes and the giant car roller coaster which was AWESOME.
would be alot of work but something like that like as u say with ramps, tight corners and perhaps somewhere where you can fall off and then you'd fail to complete the course.-i can only remember bits of the show as it was on absoultly ages ago
yeh i remember the show :D
when the teams got knocked out their vehicle got **cough** insinuated lol
there was an under the water course as well know that would be interesting to see
sounding good, any updated pics of anything the kilobots included??
'does anyone remember full metal challenge'? If not, look here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_Metal_Challenge
i remember that show :)
oh yeah and calum the first person with a finished kilobot....WRONG!
did sombody say pneumatic 4 bar lifter, a fbs AND a flamethrower....all in one cluster? no? well, just keep your eyes open or you may be taken out by.....triple H :proud

No ones seen it tho. no pics or vids. People have seen calums.
true, but my camera came back the other day ;)
get pics then.
well, youv seen the vid now...just need to mount it on the chassis
Sorry Jack but if you think you were the first you are WRONG!!Quote:

I do believe the date on that vid was 9th Nov 2009
OK it's a bit big and 1mm ali so it'll get killed first time out but I've now got 300g to put better armour on it than cardboard on top.
Andy
Well I had a kilobot back in July 2006 so nnnaaaaaah to you all!!
Ok so it weighed 1.27kg instead of the 3kg it was supposed to, wasn't very good at what it was meant to do (sumobot), had 2mm-3mm polycarb armour and wheels held on with hot glue but hey...... :)
[attachment=0:1d653alo]Sycorax.JPG[/attachment:1d653alo]
Got renamed shortly after as POJ, cause it really was a Piece Of Junk
I'd be really pleased if mine ends up being that good :rofl:Quote:

all frame and floors done
just needs polycarb
then once its been used a bit and we see what some robots are like ill make arena hazards to suit cos dont know what physical size most will end up being so will have to wait and see.
i think it'd be cool to have pit eventually one that goes up n down aswell
Is there a maximum size rule? My design means it might be pretty wide.
Don't think there is Dave, not yet anyway. I think it's pretty much a case of weight being the biggest size restraint. However (I'd need to read through the posts again to check) I think the arena is something like 2m square so as long as it's smaller than that you should be fine. What's your design like? Or you keeping it under wraps until it's nearer completion?
EDIT: Wow, this topic's up to 16 pages already? Quite impressive for a class that hasn't fought yet :)
Don't know really lol just ordered some motors and wheels n such Im thinking of a 2wd verticle single tooth invertable drum with a welded watercut ti chassis and carbonfibre armour. I'll see what's the best shape I can make with all the bits when they turn up :) you going to make one jamie?
use the titanium as the armour and the carbon fibre as the chassis.
Carbon fibre is very stiff but terrible when dealing with impacts and shocks due to this face. Titanium is much better as its able to bend.
