Well, 28mm HDPE should stop most of the damage :D
28mm? I didn't realise you'd upgraded it so much.
Aha. May as well use up the left over weight for something.
Hey guys,
Any info on the campsite (mostly location) at all?
I'm up for camping but my dad's not a huge fan of it, so probably gonna book him into a nearby B&B; just need to know the whereabouts of the campsite so we can book a B&B that's not miles away.
Cheers
the campsite is at the venue jamie- haynes motor museum.
.. if these chinkies dont hurry up and send my ESC's from hong kong there will be no 360 :(
Any ideas of the itinerary for both days?
Hi Baz,
A full update will be up tonight with times for both days.
The Saturday will be mainly practice for the Drag racing side of things, with one session of qualifying for the indoor dragsters on saturday afternoon. This day will be mainly the Robot competition but you will get quite a lot of time for practicing indoor and outdoor with the dragsters.
The Sunday is will be from early (drivers breifing about 8.30) until we finish which we plan to be about 4pm. This will consist of 3 sessions for the indoor, and 3 sessions of the out door dragsters and 2 sessions for the robot competition.
I will post exact start/finish times and run scheduals up tonight which we will be running to.
Camping, food, prizes, payment details will all hopefully be up tonight aslong as nothing further gets altered
When do sign ups close please Grant?,I am still trying to hopefully get the new machine built in time.
A new machine? Whats the name of it Clive?
Will be decided if and when it is finished Liam.3 or 4 possabilities though.
Hey Clive, I am looking at doing the Draw a week before the event if possible. So signups will close the day before then.
I will sort an exact date out tonight with James and put it in the big update.
Sorry it got delayed tonight as its James's birthday.
I will be attending the Tag Team champs, but possibly without a drag racer, since my steel fabricators have decided they can'tweld the angle grinders bevel gear to the shaft because they don't think its steel. I'm going to try something drastic and hope to hell it pays off
Dave, it will be steel!
I've welded quite a few up now lol. Otherways can be to drill a hole through and put a pin/bolt through it.
Good luck with it :proud:
Should be getting my power tool tomorrow and hopefully have it finished by the end of the weekend (with exception of the RS cable adapter, which I really should order before I forget  ). It'll have a theme to it, with a little furry animal indigenous to the Scottish Highlands at the wheel :)
Not gonna be camping anymore though :(
We figure that since its a pretty long drive back up on Sunday, a comfy bed on the Saturday night and a nice shower in the morning will be a benefit. Plus my dad suffers occasional back pains (he's getting old ) so a camping mat on top of a field probably isn't the most comfortable thing for him. Will still be at any party thingy on the Saturday night though - I believe Ring of Fire is on the cards at somepoint
We will be signing up this week now a few things are sorted out this end.Who else is going?
Does anyone know the time of day when this event starts? I intend to come [PTDR mostly built] and knowing when it starts would be very helpful in planning the journey.
My attendance with a working robot is pending ATM. Finally got the robot back from the welders, and wired in a re-programmed XXL. Its doing exactly the same thing as it did when I sent it.
So Satanix is still brainless for the time being. Thanks a lot Gary.
PS: You know I'm joking ;)
Hey Guys,
Sorry for not answering your questions sooner. This event is a little bit different to others, and all of our decisions have to be passed around and usually altered again and again before anything can be set in stone. We dont want to give out information and then change it the next day!
Camping - Silverline have booked a field at the Haynes Motor Museum on the Friday and saturday night. This is available for £5 a night per tent/caravan. We will be at the venue from Friday morning, so you can come anytime during the day to set up your things (and arena :proud: ).
Camping fee€™s are preferred to be paid by cheque along with the £10 entry fee. I will e-mail out the details to send the cheque to shortly.

We are still waiting to confirm the times you can arrive on both Saturday and Sunday, we should have these details within the next 24hours.
As you can see, the weekend is going to be VERY busy and we will require every-ones co-operation to ensure the even runs smoothly and on time. If you are not ready with your robot or dragster when your fight or race is ready you will miss out. Minor re-working of the robot fighting order may be acceptable but please let us know as soon as possible if you need your fight moving.
Food/Refreshments
Silverline will be providing food and drinks for everyone during the Sunday of the event along with a BBQ on the Saturday evening for everyone to enjoy.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided on the Sunday.
Haynes Motor Museum have a caf open all weekend for food and refreshments aswell.
Prizes
Silverline tools have Kindly donated a selection of prizes for the Tag Team competiton along with the £4000 cash to be won in the Drag Racing.
Information on these prizes will be given very shortly once confirmed. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
Gadget Show!
As some of you may have seen from last years Power Tool Drag Racing videos that the Gadget Show got involved and failed miserably at creating a Ride on Dragster.
This year they are back, and planning to take home the trophy with what I believe to be a seriously quick Ride-on Drag racer!
Hopefully the filming for this won€™t cause any/many delays to the already tight schedual.
If your on your best behaviour you might make it on TV!
Competition format/Draw/Entries
I will give full details on the competition formats for both the Tag Team and the Drag Racing tomorrow, along with a full list of entries and details on when the Draw will take place.
For anyone wishing to still sign-up, I will be putting a deadline up with the above information tomorrow.
Public audience
This event is not based on ticket sales for entry to watch. The Audience consists of invited guests and customers of Silverline tools so we have no idea on the numbers that will be passing through. I expect the Sunday will be far busier Audience wise than the Saturday.
Full details on how to get to the Haynes Motor Museum are here http://www.haynesmotormuseum.com/about- ... nd-us.html
If you have any questions please ask and I€™ll try to get back to you as soon as possible.
I hope your Robot and Dragster building is going well - and look forward to seeing your creations!
Hi Grant - thanks for the schedule of events. Can I ask how the qualifying and final thing is working? Is it a knockout event where everyone gets a practise time, then gets put against a similar timed team for a race - the loser then takes no further part?
Hi Baz,
For the drag racing both the indoor and outdoor racing will have 3 qualifying runs. They will be drawn at random so you will be against a different dragster each time.
Your worst time will be dropped and the average of your best 2 runs are used to determine your position. The top 4 Dragsters of each catagory go through to a 3rd and 4th play-off and the 1st and 2nd place finals.
Hope that makes sense!
Also, i'm not sure if your planning on comming on the Saturday - but the Indoor qualifying thats been put on saturday afternoon is for anyone thats there on the saturday. If your only comming Sunday it wont affect you at all.
This is only done because the schedual is so tight and with 40-50 dragsters expected to turn up it is almost impossible to get through all the qualifying runs on the sunday.
Grant,
I couldn't use the entry form on your website, so I sent you a signup email. Could you tell me whether you have received it?
I'll probably be there both days in some capacity old bean. I've got some toys that require playing with!
Alex - Yes I did get your e-mail thankyou. Your are on the list!
Baz - I look forward to seeing them :proud:
Hey Guys
I'm still struggling with my dragster, and for some very bizzare reason which has not been found out, Satanix's speedo controller blew up yesterday evening (I mean actually blew up - the big capacitor next to the battery In lead on the Scorpion XL blew its top and lots of magic smoke came out).
The controller has been sent for repair and a replacement XXL sent fot the competition. But I still have no clue if this dragster will be done
can i ask about the robots. . . ,
how the competition will be done?
There doesn't seem to be much time for a big competition with rounds and loosers mellee's etc like normal. ?
Interested to know what happens if you get knocked out in the first round. . . Do you just go and play with yr drag racer instead?
I noticed no actual planned white board fights in the schedule.. . . Just so we know what to expect when we get there. :-)
in relation to what john just asked- well sort of, whilst all the drag racing is going on, if a roboteer isn't needed again or isn't needed for ages, are we ok to have our own little whiteboard type fights?
The format is exactly the same as the last Tag team event we ran!
And as usual, after the first rounds the other shows will have whiteboards in.
Each team will have two fights in the first round which will fill up the first 2 sessions. This will be scored up on a points system and the top 8 teams will go through to the next round. From then in its a straight knockout untill the finals, with a 3rd and 4th place play-off as we did at thinktank last time. We hope there will be a good number of whiteboards as usual.
During the Drag racing the arena will be shut off so no fighting whilst thats going on. If one of us are around the arena then testing can be done as usual.
This is no different to our Thinktank event, only its spread over 2 days with drag racing in between and camping.
No event update i've ever seen has ever written down how many whiteboards are in each session? Depending on how smoothly the day runs will depend how many more whiteboards we can add in.
thx thats all i wanted to know.
Any chance of a list of who has signed up and with whom they are partnering please. :D :D
ok question ?
for my destructive wheels do i have just 1 saw blade each side or 2 with a gap in middle :)
Aldi £4.99 each for 2 :)
John
Is anyone travelling from the derbyshire nottinghamshire or passing the area?
migth need a lift from someone with room in their vechile who doesn't mind me tagging along, i would pay for my sahre of petrol etc
http://www.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source ... .1684&z=13
google map of the town i live see if anyone will be pasiing
cheers Alex
Gotta be two surely, more of a contact surface (albeit the edge of a blade) to get the power down. If I was racing a destructive dragster, I'd say one of course to hinder the competition but I'm Stock so its fine :)Quote:

One circular saw blade each side works fine, even the thin ones designed for cordless circular saws, as long as you have most of the weight on them.
And if you have most of the weight on them, you of course need long wheely bars out the back to stop it flipping over (long wheely bars are much better than short ones, coz they take less weight off the drive wheels when they touch the ground).
see http://www.slowcarclub.com/santapod-07/drag-bike.jpg
Dont let all the secrets out john :proud:
We tested waynes dragster yesterday and even with rubber tyres on it wheelied and flipped onto its back - so put a wheely bar on if you think it might!
The List of entries and teams so far are below. If i've missed anyone off let me know asap.

The last robots on the list as far as I am aware do not have partners. If you find a partner just post and let us know.
Theres been some slight changes to the overall timetable, nothing you guys need to worry about but once i've re-written the schedule and had it OK'd I'll pass it onto you. That should be before the end of the day.
Roboteers e-mails are going out as soon as i have the revised schedual.
theres a few teams in there that scare the hell out of me lol
really can't wait to see the draw
Grant,
Aftershock is now with Heatwave
Whirlpool is now with Crumple Zone
Should be an interesting draw!!
LS2 / LH2
360 / Savage Evo
Beauty 4 / Explosion
Beauty 2 / Rip Evo
Those are the four that I'll be keeping my eye firmly on. LS2/LH2 and 360/Savage Evo for the destruction aspect involved, and Beauty 4/Explosion and Beauty 2/Rip Evo for the flipping factor. Although the team that scares me the most is Drumroll/Hornet 2  (VFTW!)
Carcinus is open to being paired with anyone, its still getting built but will be a grabbing claw robot similar to Calum's Pinsor. My dad's driving so that may be a weakpoint
Beware of the Toon Army
ha ha ha theres always one joker !!!!
