k_c_r, I am Brazilian, live in Portugal since 2005. I follow the evolution of the Touro/RioBotz since the beginnings.
It will be my first time in Birmingham, I'll go by taxi from the hotel to the event. One question, which the space available for each team? the material / tools can sleep there?
looks great robotextreme,
idk where i'm staying, might try and wing a trip to cadbury world though while im up there. cadbury world is awesome btw, totally recommend going.
Great even for me, I can just drive home ;)
I find Pete's predictions rather odd, the one fight I am most considered to get slaughtered in, he has me down for a win, and one I think I'd win he has me down to lose!
Btw, awesome robot guilherme
Guilherme - you have an excellent looking robot there! I hope you do well with it.
we are happy to put your robot and tools inside the arena over night to keep them safe.
@ Guilherme, that looks beasty! What are you using to power the weapon?
Slightly concerned about Galactus and Cobalt and what little is known about them.
they r all using screw driver moters now days!!!
Yeah, screw drivers and really powerful rubber bands.
Pretty cool looking robot Guilherme Ferreira... Be interesting to see some of these new international machines in action!
Just looking through the list... Trevor made a spiner!? Always thought he was such a nice bloke :uhoh: Spill the beans Trev?
Not built yet - decided to build a full pressure flipper that can take discs but the draw pits it agains't LS4 first fight so LS4 will be in top shape so bottled it and and have gone back to a spinner.
Spent 4 hours Saturday connecting a 90° gearbox to a motor only to find the motor was dud when finished.........
Think Ironside with teeth........6 of them at 3000rpm.........disc weighs 3kg atm but may need some weight loss.
Was going to use a pair of discs I built for series 5 on Velocrippa, they span in opposite directions at 6000rpm, got me on the show, they were evil. When testing them I threw a piece of metal at the blades at full speed and the metal broke a window in the garage........bit heavy though at 10kg :proud: :proud:
Trev
come on trev less than 5 weeks to go :)
best i get that motor to you then trev
No one?Quote:
Would people be interested in Audio intros much like those on Robot Wars?
Made a quick mock up.
http://soundcloud.com/pj-belcher-pro...allenge-intros
That sounds really cool, I'd love to have that as an intro!
Those were cool! Felt some of the bot names were a little unclear (to unfamiliar ears at least) but otherwise they would certainly add a bit of snaz to the show.
Perhaps announcing team names would add to it. Built by Team X-Pat in M¡laga Spain - Tormenta!
They sound great! Shame we cant get the bloke who did the original Robotwars ones to do it, but what ever you did to alter the sound has got it sounding close!
Thanks guys!
That was who I was modelling it on. Luckily I have a similar accent just not as deep.
I dropped the pitch and format on the Names by quite a bit, perhaps too much as with the sound underneath it can make them hard to hear.
Can RoboChallenge play these back if I make them up?
PJ-27, Excellent job. For seconds was motivating hear the name Galactus in the intro.
In answer at the question, Galactus uses an Turnigy brushless inrunner 1400Kv.
Thanks!
Galactus was one of the names that came out quite well.
FYI, Kaizer comes from Swansea. :)
Is true, if you can answer, which the material of the floor of the arena and what is the unevenness between the plates?
The floor is hardox and there is no unevenness that I am aware of.
Swansea eh? Well that's easy enough to say....
The plates of hardox can have a small gap between them though as Explosion found out last year....

hmm yes very flat not we drove to the start then the wheels very not on the floor and we had 1 flip as there was a lot of swarf in the buffer doh!

Honestly this is really bad!
As usually works when a robot gets stuck in the arena, the opponent usually disengages it? In general, how works the mutual aid.
depends if you want to win or not, i'll always try to help, wheather or not that will actually help things, i try none the less.
The floor is all hardox so we dont get any gouges. The edges are all level and each has a 45 degree bevel to avoid hitting the edge if one did get lifted. Some of the panels are very slightly domed which can get some of the very low robots caught. I recommend a ground clearance of at least 5mm for robots. the greater the better.
As was the case in the finals I think debris got jammed between 2 panels which caught Explosion out which was such a shame. This year we will be keeping a close eye on this to avoid it having an impact on battles. Overall the floors are flat together but some have slight dishes from temperature distortion.
It's about the best combat floor you will find
I carnt use 360 at heavyweight events due to it being to low (wide wheel base with small wheels and 4mm g/c) but it drives fine in the robochallenge arena. In all fairness if you get stuck in this arena... You need a re-design.
As for spinners vs the floor;

Sounding good PJ! Although as has been mentioned, the voice manipulation for the robot names does make it harder to hear properly when combined with the sound effect. I imagine it'd probably work just as well if the voice stays the same as the location snippets.Quote:

Thanks Jamie. I have a plan for the robot names to make them much clearer.
Looks like the audio intros are a go, so could everyone please email me their stats.
I get a lot of emails every day and about to receive 40 more! So could you please keep them concise and to this format. Much appreciated.
Subject: RoboChallenge 2012 Intro
Location / Team Name: eg. Birmingham / Team Big Nipper
Past Awards / Current Seeding: eg. 2008 Champion / Number 4 Seed
Miscellaneous: eg. Representing Whales
Robot Name: eg. 'Eat Ya Face'
Your Name (So I can keep track)
Thanks guys!

Thanks for your emails so far guys, Dave makes a good point though.
Can you please include any pronunciation (or certain wording) of odd Robot names.
For instance Dizzy 102.2
Dizzy one-oh-two-point-two.
Or,
Dizzy one-hundred-and-two-point-2
Thanks!
Alright, if you insist. If you are so much difficulty with it:
Swansea. Swan-Sea
Haha, cheers for the clarification Ceri, was struggling with that one. ;)
Is it Swansea? I remember looking something out you had given to Jamie last year in a envelope with your address on it and it was about 30 letters long, the first 5 of which all seemed to be A
Was that Maesygwernen or Cwmrhydyceirw?Quote:

Swansea is an unrelated English name - the Welsh is Abertawe. Swansea city FC would have started top of the premier league with that name.
Sorry off topic.
Hey Everyone! Thank you for your emails got 15 teams so far.
Just letting you all know I'm putting a cut off date on when you can get your stats to me.
This will be Monday 19/03/2012. Due to become very busy very soon so looking to get the recordings done equally promptly.
Here's a quick reminder of what I require:

ps. RoboChallange have sent me a list of competitors, some with Locations. So if you miss the recording date chances are I can still make something, otherwise it'll just be your robot name.
