ok done some more over the weekend, i cut the aluminium base plate but cant find my m6 tap so cant fit it but i have ordered a new 1 so will get that done later and i have now made the wheel arches and started on the lifter front which kinda reminds me of a platypus at the mo, also i'm going to have sloped edges down the sides of the lifter to deflect spinners
i still have to make the battery box, horns and finish off the scoop before i can paint it but im hoping i can get it ready for guildford

looking good, I'm liking the wheel arches ;D
-
+1 those wheel arches look bad!
-
Looking very big brother, Really liking it
-
ok done a bit more finished welding and got the main body painted, ive booked Friday off so will hopefully get the rest of the lifter done then and get it wired up on sat ready for guildford

http://i1052.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5ba9cf93.jpg
1 thing ive noticed the paint seems duller compared to the original scruffy and its the same paint
-
looking really good, the matt black paint is deceiving...almost looks like hdpe not steel!
-
lol didn't think of it like that, it does look like plastic
-
You have some serious skills. Am Jelly :)
-
Looking good ;) the black paint looks cool and I agree that it does make it look like plastic, maybe thats a good thing though. still undecided whether to go to Guildford, if I do go I'll need to rebuild the robot first haha, maybe see you there.
-
ok got the link, fuse, esc, battery + box, horns and power splitter fitted and i've also got a the plate on the back of the lifter fitted and a good chunk of the front done
http://i1052.photobucket.com/albums/...ps424ca388.jpg
ive still got to put sloped sides on the lifter, bolt on the titanium blade at the front wire up the lifter (which is going to be the biggest pain) and add all the goth spikes
so off to make some CAD templates for sloped lifter side
-
It looks more evil than before, which is awesome. I was wondering, where do you get your spikes and stuff from?
-
i think i got pretty much everything off ebay apart from the tx
the horns are a small cut up crowbar and the spikes i put down the back of the lifter are goth/punk spikes im going to use the same setup as scruffy 1, 4-5 25mm long spikes down the back of the lifter but i also have some small 10mm spike that will be going in various places haven't quite decided where yet
i should probably have called it something like revenge of scruffy, scruffys revenege or scruffys demond
i will have to look for some stick on flame affect for down the sides
-
Cool, cheers. Scruffy reborn maybe?
-
Looks stunning, love the body work. Good luck at guildford
-
been a while since ive updated but due to heat and laziness not really done much
scruffy 2 requires a few adjustments to the lifter a bit of wiring and the aesthetics to give it some more character
ive also started to look at building a beetle got the motors and decided to do a night fury like beetle probably with a servo lifter estimated top speed is round 7-8mph so should be nice and quick and i will probably be using a bolt together structure so i can easily change Armour and shift between the 1.36 and 1.5 weight variations
ive also started looking at my robot with chin/drill driven lifter again and have worked out that it will have a maximum lift of 30kg ish before the chain snaps so once i have to working i will do some weight tests and see if i need to upgrade to 8mm chain or if belts would be better but i cant find any info on the forces that the technobots belts can withstand
and lastly i have started to make base of the Dog/Growler style robot
http://i1052.photobucket.com/albums/...psb74de07e.jpg
haven't decided on the name yet thought of a good list but cant deside
hellhound
anubis
The Grim
gnasher
not sure if any are take, if so please tell me but if anyone has any other name suggestions please post them up
-
Cheeky Mikita's there :proud:!
That things going to have some serious push!
-
im going to double up the wheels to help with grip and the top speed is estimated round 15mph so it should be able to catch most bots just have to make the grabby/lifter evil dog head work well
-
ok started my beetleweight, its a 4wd,
it has
4x 12v 1000rpm motors with 4 65mm wheels (which seem grippy), im using aluminium for the body and 3mm t6 aluminium for the side, front and rear armour i have a servo that i am aiming to use for some sort of lifting weapon but haven't decided on what yet, i have also got a turnigy nano tech 3s which will peek at 18a so i hope it will be enough to run the 4 25mm motors
it should do about 7.5mph hopefully have it ready for a test drive this weekend will post pics/vids etc later when its a bit further along
-
first test vid of it working still have a lot to do tho
ive managed to push a 1.2kg cat food box across the floor with allot of wheel spin
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mho2wsQqev8
not the best quality vid but my phones getting a bit naff now
-
That's seriously quick! Really like seeing so many beetles starting to take shape.
-
yes its good to see a few new builds now....futures looking good.
-
are you putting a weapon on that?
-
depends on how much weight i have left but if there is enough it will have a servo powered lifter
have been looking into a small horizontal spinner that would stick out underneath as well but that's less likely
-
finally got round to sorting out the armour, still have to sort out mounting at the back and the top paneland then look into weight loss for a lifter weapon
might also look into foam tyres to see if they give better traction
http://i1052.photobucket.com/albums/...psa2d5ea15.jpg
-
finally go off my ass to get scruffy 2 finished
the head is now sorted with micro switches to stop the actuator, spikes are on and it will now self right
http://i1052.photobucket.com/albums/...psf1c55738.jpg
http://i1052.photobucket.com/albums/...psbd818740.jpg
all that's left to do is fit a bit of grade 5 ti to the front of the lifter and shorten the led and actuator wires and it ready to go
-
Did you put scruffy in with the spinners at anypoint? Am looking into what it takes to make the lifting arm hinges strong enough.
-
the first scruffy took on spinners and the lifter held up fine but the front edge of the scoop got bent up, the old versions is my avatar
the scoop was just 5mm mild steel, the new 1 is thinner but it has a structure underneath which should make it more ridged and hopefully more prone to getting a gash rather than bet as i can then just weld it up
main suggestion don't use door hinge tried it and it bent, in the end i got some steel tube that was 8mm bore and made my own hinge which held up well
here is a pic

thought i should do a minor update on scruffy after maidstone ......good bit of fun lol, managed to shove a few in the pit and flipped a bot (well rolled it lol) and it had no problems self righting even with the missing spikes
my 1mm titanium blade bent so i either need to get a piece of hardox or 2-3mm ti, all my goth spike broke so i will need to look into getting some made from ti bar and my servo/micro switch controller for the actuator packed up on the last fight (luckily)
upgrade plans are to go back to 4s lipo instead of 3s the get the old scruffy speed back but the actuator is already fast enough so i plan to use a resistor pack form a car fan/heater system to keep the power to around the 12v mark
ive also been looking at the battle switches but i am unsure if they will work with the dx3e pistol grip tx so might just have to make another servo switch, upgrade the blade to something thicker and change the spikes for something stronger
night fury ran ok in the playtime at the beginning but died at the end turned out to be the battery had swollen so i think i ran it for to long or possibly damaged it somehow but my spare battery still runs it fine, anyway i was unsure on lipo disposal so i check on the net and found out it was easy just drain it flat and its safe so i did so
only upgrades night fury needs is some new front scoops probably best to get some hardox
on another note i will hopefully be starting my heavyweight in the near future its gonna be old tech wheelchair motors and 4QD esc as i already have these and im aiming for 5mm steel armour, im also leaving room for upgrades later on once these bits have broken lol
-
got some more done to my beetleweight
http://i1052.photobucket.com/albums/...psf271b0bd.jpg
http://i1052.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9e0a90f2.jpg
it has been shortened to save some weight, the 2 rear spike will be changed to slightly longer version and im planning to have a lifting scoop on the front powered by a servo with 12kgcm torque and i have also found some wheels/tyres with a bit more grip
-
That's class mate. Look forward to seeing it in the Slaughterhouse :)
-
lol im just hoping it will hold up to all the spinners,im using 3mm t6 aluminium for the main armour
also just weighed it without the top plate, scoop etc and its 1.34kg looks like it will have to go on a diet and might end up as a ram bot, might look into lighter servos
-
I'd maybe look into replacing your side panels with say HDPE or similar as it would be lighter and would flex on big hits instead of being bent in and possibly fouling the wheels. Anyway, a small lifter should be doable in the 150g or so you have, just something enough to break the opponents traction and give you an advantage. Love the spikes btw
-
might have to try that
but i can cut back at some of the internal material and the front and rear panels have to be trimmed on the top and bottom corners, im also changing my servo mount for something lighter and tve check the weight of the nightfury style scoop and that's allot lighter than i thought it would be, so i might even manage a few spikes mainly i want 2 more at the back 2-4 at the front and another 1 on each side in the middle just need to work out where to put the removable link and led, pitty we can use a switch
-
had a minor issue when testing the servo, when i use it the hole robot lunged backwards so i tested it with another tx/rx and it was even worse so i then checked it against an old servo i had and it seamed fine so ive ordered a a different high torque servo to try out
anyway not got much done added extra spikes and put the 15mm spikes on the back
http://i1052.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8fd6eb8c.jpg
ive also started to make a front lifting scoop but i dont think it will stand up to much so will probably make something out of steel
http://i1052.photobucket.com/albums/...pse1c70167.jpg
the plan is to paint it green and maybe fir a red led between the wheels on each side, since its night fury esk i might stick with the names from the movie how to train your dragon and call it the terrible terror or maybe something like midge fury unless anyone can think of something that sounds better lol
-
Love the bling-bling wheels ;)
-
That looks hot! lovin the Dubs!
-
got round to doing a test drive
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOQDhYVUPUI
unfortunately couldn't shove a 13kg bot lol but managed a 1kg cat food box
-
Very good :) Can't wait to fight it !
-
did a bit more to the beetle
http://i1052.photobucket.com/albums/...psee17c10b.jpg
http://i1052.photobucket.com/albums/...psde5b3e9f.jpg
started to look at making it lighter as its already at 1.5kg, so will be drilling holes in a few places and trimming down edges to get enough weight back for a few extra bolts and bits, might also change the top panel for something thinner or some 3mm polycarbonate
-
Is it hard to tap threads in the end of the ally sides? Do you need special equipment to do that? Is there any chance of a basic run down of what's involved lol dead interested in it :)
