Re: CALEI -JAC
Usually fuses are rated rather higher than the continuous current rating, i.e. for a 15A continuous controller more like 30/40A and for a 30A perhaps 50/60A - the fets can usually take at least twice the continuous rating for very short periods, it's longer periods that cause so much heating that damage can be done.

Re: CALEI -JAC
thanks. I will put another in-line fuse before the lifter motor but will I need a fuse anywhere else on the robot to comply with the build rules?
-
Re: CALEI -JAC
You need an inline fuse after the battery IF your using Li-Po's otherwise all other fusing is up to you!

Re: CALEI -JAC
Perfect. What rating should that be just as above, about 30amps?

Re: CALEI -JAC
looking awesome! actutor thing arrived today by the way :)

Re: CALEI -JAC
Depends on both the rating of the li-po pack (should match/be just under peak discharge capacity) and whether you want some more protection for your speed controllers (then you'd go for a smaller fuse, but run the risk of blowing this just through heavy loads/stalled motors).
Are you still using these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/18-5v-2200MAH-45C ... 231019e093 as I noticed you'd posted earlier? - why two packs, surely simpler to use one?

Re: CALEI -JAC
jonny - glad the lifter arrived today. Hope its what you're after.
Ewan - yes I was thinking of using these. I was going to use two that would give me 4400mah one each side spreads the weight making it even either side. Plus two is a bit different.

Re: CALEI -JAC
OK fair enough if it's for weight distribution, you'll probably want to run them in parallel for easy charging? If so then let's give a conservative 25C peak discharge for them (being cheap) which equates to 110A (25 x 4.4Ah). For your robot (not a very big weapon motor, maximum drain will probably be from lifter motor near-stall) I'd say a 100A fuse would do fine and be ample protection for your batteries (and would most importantly trip if there's a power-circuit short). Could run even smaller if you're concerned about your speed controllers.

Re: CALEI -JAC
wow 100amp fuse now we're talking.lol
I will be running them in parallel for charging and 18.5v will be enough as they are 12v drill motors.
thanks for that I'll get a few ordered.

Re: CALEI -JAC
does anyone know where to get 100amp mini blade fuses?
