just a quicky from a noob.... will my 14.4 volt drill motors be able to power my feather with 220mm diameter wheels. The wheels are quite heavy and are approximatly 50mm wide. If not should i use WW motors instead?

ohh an just one last thing.... will the Futaba FM40MHz Micro 4ch RX from technobots be suitable for use in a feather? previous mini RXs ive owned say in the instructions that they wont work at long ranges etc because of the use of small lightweight components

I would be confident that anything you buy from technobots is suited to robot wars. And 220mm dia wheels are astronomically large for drill motors, but about right for wiper motors.

ITS HERE! lol the bigass technobots package arrived yesterday :-D
i spent the whole day stripping wires and crimping spade connectors and my hands still hurt (all connections are made with these). All the wiring is arranged into tidy looms held together with spiral tube. Everything worked first time :-D all thats left to do is, screw down all the electronics, make a bracket to hole the wheels on the axles and then cut, bend and rivet the shell

ive been using the red wheels as we now them (just hard plastic wheels that screw right onto the drill). these have been wearing down totally after one event and they are also really tractionless and hard to put on/remove.

so im looking at testing out the UK robotics type wheels.. so would any body know the dimensions (diameter and width) and what the wheels are made of? and also if the wheels can be purchased seperately.

any help appreciated.

Wheels are 80mm diameter plus thin tyres, and 12mm thick. Wheels are available separately but they need additional fixing stuff (nuts and washers etc) and Im not sure if these parts come with the wheels-only option. Doms the purveyor of these things so hell be the man in the know.

Hi, I have found this cordless drill on the maplins site, and at the moment its half price, (£16 from £30). I wondered if anyone knew of it or has any idea whether it would be suitable for drive in a feather?

£18.49 inc VAT, you could find a 12v drill cheaper but i guess your paying for the extra 2 batteries, charger and 39pc tool kit.

As for its suitability as a featherweight motor its ProMax brand so it will be an ok motor and gearbox.
