Trust me on this one John, you dont even want to think about opening that can of worms!!
theres nothing wrong with rambots Im bored of flippers but u dont see me moaning like a spoilt b****
If its such a problem put a limit on the amount of weapon types
It should be completely random, cant see how a uk champs can be any other way !
John
the only thing to bear in mind is from a audience point of view..
i believe it would be more interesting viewing? if you used the 2nd option (but it depends on the draw) so the 1st option could be ok.
i cant go to this event due to distance but i wouldnt be bothered either way personally.
i would think you would still feel like a champ if you won this event, your coming up against some good robots either way.
why not do a private random draw and see how it turns out first?
craig, im bored of flippers im actually bored of feathers and i prefer heavys just need a heavy spinner arena for it to be more fun craigy baby
not gonna happen this year
It sounds like theres mixed opinions on this lol.
The idea of splitting weapon types is in no way to make fights more entertaining. We are not selling tickets personally for this event so all of our effort is going directly into the event itself.
My thought was that having each heat with a similar draw would make each heat more even, therfore making each heat as even as possible, and not have all the best robots comming up against each other and knocking themselves out in the first round.
If people want a straight draw than thats perfectly fine by us, its even less work....
Mark, I have added LS3 and LF3 to the list. the full list of contenders is on the previous page.
Im not scared of the weapons at all, you can tear me completely to pieces if you want. I just think it should be totally random, as thats the only way its truly fair.

This to me makes it not random, trying to separate the best robots out just seems daft. There should be one seed per battle, theyre the best robots based on past experience, and theyre kept separate. Theyre opponents should then be totally random, not drawn just so, say, two spinners dont come up against each other. Its a competition isnt it.
Jonno you are trying something new with the heavyweight champs this year. Whats to say that something new shouldnt be done with the featherweights as well?
I dont care who im fighting- but as jonno said for a UK champs it should be done out of that hat.
My personal opinion is to bring back the active weapon rule for the sake of the audience! lets be honest drill motor hardox block vs drill motor hardox block can get boring to watch. but lets not start that up again..
I am in agreement with the 2 daves and Jonno - this should be a randomly drawn competition with the seeds seperates (Obv)
I am all for a random draw.
Trev
Random draw, seeds split between heats.
Random draw and if 4 4 Toon gets 2 spinners so be it.
True Dave, I Am, maybe it might be worth trying... not sure for the uk champs though.

Id go for random
Do it jonno! think of the audience!
Well it looks like the majority want a random draw.
It makes it easier for us so thats what well do!
Dont complain when you all get drawn up against spinners:rofl:
I was in favour of option 2 - I liked the attempt at a different approach and think it would vary the fights quite nicely. But Im cool with option 1 as well as its how its been done every time in the past. Dont see any harm in using a different draw like mentioned in a UK champs though. To be the champ youve got to take it all and dish it out in equal measure. Whether youre against two randomly drawn spinners or a slightly fixed (for lack of a better word) draw with a flipper and rambot, the only way youre gonna win is by kicking ass.
In regards to active weapons, my opinion is that if its your first robot, by all means go for a rammer built like a brick if you want something thatll survive and may even be successful, but if you redesign the robot or make a new robot, try your utmost to fit a weapon in it. Yes itll cost more but just having something designed to actively engage against the opponent (besides the robot!) leads to more enjoyment for the audience and, I feel, the roboteer.
After the Eurochamps in 07, I vowed never to enter a robot in a competition again unless it had an active weapon. It led to extra work and slightly more cost but Ive managed it. Ok, Kaizers forks may not be effective much but its still an active weapon, still provides an extra channel of control, can still have an effect in battle if used well and just gives that extra sense of enjoyment at the arenaside having a controlling implement on your robot
My 2p anyway :)
CAn we do it on the day then ? so we can see :) please
also have a min driving age of 10 as i just would not be able to take ANOTHER LOSS against a 8 year old (only jokeing Alex ;))

nah do the draw from a hat asap- do it infront of someone impartial.
I like knowing who im fighting a week or two in advance so i can make plans for atleast the first round :)
i dont mind as im entering a spinner anyway :uhoh:
I think the draw should be made now in front of someone impartial, but we shouldnt be told who weve got until the day. Keeps the anticipation flowing! lol
We decide when the draw is:angry:lol.
As usual, it will be atleast 1 week before the event so that you can have plenty of time to come up with an excuse as to why your robot might not want to work when youve been drawn against a spinner:proud:
I dont think people use excuses anymore, they just all assume that the spinners will break down after the first hit.
Got a good feeling about this one though; I think the spinners are going to come in to their element this time :)
Just gone through the weapon types actually and for the first time that I can recall, the spinners outnumber the flippers, so theres no excuse for a member of the gas brigade to win! :)
Pushers/rambots - 13
Spinners - 9 (4 horizontal, 2 FBS, 2 drum, 1 vertical)
Flippers - 8
Lifters - 4
Crushers - 1
Unknown - 2 (Sabretooth and Japanese fighting tortoise - enlightenment required :))
No axes this time, methinks I can skimp on thick top armour (watches in irony as he gets drawn against Venom :P)
sabertooth is a vertical spinner jamie
Woot, another spinner to add to the list then :)
Only need three more and therell be as many spinners as pushers/rambots
Japanese Fighting Tortoise could be anything...lol. I dont even know what itll be yet and Im building it.
DB5 will no longer just be a drum, full on vertical spinner.
woo moan the vertical spinners!
stripper is a full body spinner. 1st test this weekend. Wahay.
Hi guys, I have questions regarding Storm Force my HW
To The Coopers : Can Storm Force come to the event to be put on static display?
To Jonno : Would u be OK with that if u were to transport it to the event?
Cheers
Liam Bryant
Hi all, to those who are interested I have put a couple of pictures on my profile of Little Spinner in the making hopefully will be ready for UK champs. The other picture is of Big Nipper after the Barnsley meet, bloody awsome robot that Thor!
how many bits in BN ?
could be a good quiz !!
INCLUDING BOLTS
looks like your on the limitations of your lathe! bet that billet cost a fair bit aswell. How heavy and thick rimmed is the body shell going to be when finnished?
Latest pic on my profile now.
Half inch more wouldnt fit on the lathe and Graeme got the billet on ebay. Theres another 19mm height ring to go on the bottom yet. Going to be 35mm think on the bottom ring with 7mm thick top (if the weight is calculated correctly) and then pockets milled insdie the 35mm part to bring it back down to weight (5.8kg inc 4 teeth).
good old colchester student lathe lol
