Thanks for all the tactics and comments!
Weve reduced 32 robots to 8, and reached the quarter finals! In our first battle, will Wedge Devolution get revenge on Troubloon 6 for knocking out its teammate Spin Dash Unleashed?
House Robots: Drilla Killa Ultimate & Ultimate Snakebite
3, 2, 1 - ACTIVATE!
Wedge Devolution charged straight away, while Troubloon 6 remained static to spin up its flywheels! As the flipper approached, Troubloon swerved to one side and managed a glancing blow on Wedge Devo! Unfortunately, this turned Wedge Devo a little and allowed it to run into Troubloons side, but Troubloon 6 turned again and the two robots became parallel - again, Troubloon used its own weapons first and gave Wedge Devo another knock! Wedge Devo dodged the next advance, turned round and came back in: this time, with the right manouvre, it caught Troubloon 6 in the side! Managing to slip its plate under the skirt, it ran Troubloon 6 towards the nearest House Robot, Ultimate Snakebite! As Troubloon 6 was pushed up onto Snakebites wedge, the House Robot lifted its jaws to tip the spinner, before giving it a taste of the rear flywheel! Troubloon 6 almost rolled from the impact, before being shoved towards the arena disc by Wedge Devo - but Troubloons own flywheel caught the arena wall and knocked it out of its opponents clutches, allowing it to whack Wedge Devolution in the side before the champ could respond!
As Wedge Devo was smacked against the wall, Troubloon 6 had the chance to hit it again with the rear flywheel, but Wedge Devo moved again and ran into Troubloons side again! A few seconds later, Troubloon was being run right back into Ultimate Snakebite, who managed to clamp it in its jaws this time before doing a victory spin! Troubloon 6 was released with a few toothmarks, before finding Wedge Devo attacking again! Troubloon deterred the champ with a slight hit on the front, then managed to twist again and give it a harder side blow! As Wedge Devo went round to the side again, it was struck by the rear flywheel, but on the next go, it was luckier, coming into the side at a better angle and getting underneath its opponent again! Seeing the pit release dead ahead, Wedge Devolution ran straight into it, but as it turned to take Troubloon 6 towards it, the front flywheel hit the wedge and Troubloon ricocheted off! Wedge Devo quickly ran towards it again, manouvering and pinning Troubloon 6 against the arena wall before it could escape! When it came underneath again, it brought Troubloon 6 to the left of the open pit: it accidentally let one of its own wheels run over the abyss, but when it tilted, Troubloon 6 slid down into the pit, while Wedge Devolution managed to drive away, without having used its famous flipper at all!

WEDGE DEVOLUTION GOES THROUGH TO THE SEMI FINALS!
Next up, the quarter finals other flipping wedge, Wedginator Devilution, faces former champ SoR X!
House Robots: Megaraptor & King Cobra
3, 2, 1 - ACTIVATE!
Wedginator Devilution came rushing forward while SoR X moved cautiously away as its rim began to spin. The VFT1 champ then reversed towards Wedginator, who moved quickly and brought its front into the rim, which spun it into the arena wall! SoR X quickly moved in and went crash into the side before Wedginator could move away! It managed another glancing side blow as Wedginator turned round, but then had to reverse away as Wedginator charged towards its front! Wedginator went round the side and ran head on into SoR X, taking another little dent on the front - SoR X moved away to get spinning again, and as Wedginator attacked again, it brought its spinning rim back into the front, striking the barbs but not getting caught! As Wedginator was knocked away again, SoR X got in another side strike, ripping the left skirt! It aimed to attack again, but Wedginator ran back into it - unfortunately, SoR X was still resisting being caught thanks to its spinning rim!
Both robots ended up comically missing each other on the next charge - as they turned and came running in again, SoR X hit the left skirt again, and half of it finally parted company with the main body! SoR X excitedly chased Wedginator, who managed to outpace it and run back into it to slow the rim! Knocked against the wall, Wedginator was well positioned to charge again, but the still spinning rim still kept it from getting underneath SoR X, who after being rammed a second time, ran into Wedginators side, unhindered by the broken skirt, and flicked it onto its back! Wedginator was forced to fire its flipper for the first time - as it landed right side up, SoR X ran into its other side, but couldnt get past the intact skirt! It pushed Wedginator for a moment before finally breaking away and hitting Wedginator with its rim, almost in annoyance! Wedginator angrily chased SoR X, who almost obligingly ran back into the front to try and dislodge the barbs, but they remained intact! Wedginator dodged the next assault by SoR X and then ran into it head on! As the more powerful robot, it shoved SoR X backwards until they reached the arena wall, whereupon SoR Xs rim sent the spinner/flipper skimming away, with Wedginator in hot pursuit!
Coming back to meet Wedginator Devilution, SoR X swerved at the last moment so its rim again hit the barbs - they still didnt come off, but it was able to spin Wedginator into the wall and attack the right skirt, accidentally hitting the pit release in the process! Trying to seize the oppotunity, Wedginator swerved and rammed SoR X against the wall to try and slow the rim! SoR X bounced off again, now some distance from the pit - it hurriedly reversed away from the advancing Wedginator until its rim was spinning fully again, before attempting to go for the right side! Wedginator stopped it with its front again - SoR Xs next attack missed the side, but it was able to run into the left side again on the next go, this time flipping Wedginator into the air and against the arena wall! Wedginators self right almost brought it into King Cobras CPZ, but its most immediate worry was SoR X ramming it again and causing damage to the right skirt! However, Wedginator reacted by running into SoR X again and sending it bouncing off King Cobra! Settling on the arena floor again, SoR X ran back in, glancing off Wedginators left side and almost colliding with the arena disc as it made evasive manouvers!
On its next attack, SoR X successfully ripped the right skirt, but Wedginator spun round as it came in to try and flip again, and met the front wedge! The result was SoR X being rammed against the wall once again and bouncing off! The VFT1 champion now went for the pit release while Wedginator Devilution followed - as Wedginator ran towards it, it glanced against the rim and was knocked, allowing SoR X to run under its exposed right side, turn Wedginator around and fire its flipper! Unfortunately, it was trying to be a little too fancy, as Wedginator landed on its back to the side of the pit! SoR X rushed to catch Wedginator as it flipped itself over.....and succeeded! Wedginator Devilution could do nothing to escape as it was properly shoved into the pit, as it had already done itself to Flipping Hell and Black Panther!

SoR X GOES THROUGH TO THE SEMI FINALS!
What a surprise, thats the end of my VFT...
Well now that Im out, there can only be a classic Wedge Devo vs. SoR showdown left...of course this being VFT itll be good. :proud:
Now a clash between two flipping/lifting box wedges, Achilles and The May Tracks Has You!
House Robots: The Martian & Assassinator
3, 2, 1 - ACTIVATE!
Achilles went for a full-on charge - and ended up running past The May Tracks Has You as the other robot tried to turn into the side! Quickly turning and coming back, Achilles just managed to run into its opponents side, pushing for a moment before the spatula came under the skirts! Achilles soon had May Tracks in the air on its arm - The Martian was close by, so Achilles headed for the CPZ, and May Tracks got a taste of the alien tripods saws, as well as a blast from the flamethrower! It was left in this position for some time, the tracks rotating helplessly, while firing its flipper had little effect! When Achilles finally decided to end the torture, it rammed May Tracks against the wall, overturning it! May Tracks quickly selfrighted, but Achilles was soon on the attack again, and the only escape route was towards The Martian! Desperately, May Tracks ran into the House Robot, firing its flipper and tipping it, enjoying the sweet taste of revenge! Achilless path was blocked by the House Robots body, allowing May Tracks to make good its escape!
The May Tracks Has You was quickly back in the action, taking a little nick from The Martians saw as it ran into Achilles side on! Pinning its opponent against the wall, it managed to surpass the skirts with its wedge extender and bring the famous wedge spikes into play, slicing into Achilless front go-kart tyres! Achilles was then flipped onto its back - a slower selfrighter than May Tracks, it was unable to avoid being rammed across the arena by May Tracks and flipped against the opposite wall! As Achilles was turning itself over again, May Tracks manouvered round to the side and shoved it into the corner - the titanium baseplate held up to the spikes, which missed the tyres this time, although Achilles did receive a flip for good measure! However, it landed on its wheels, and was still pretty mobile! Achilles ran aggressively at May Tracks, who quickly responded - the two robots collided and turned together, before May Trackss superior speed brought it round to Achilless side! It was soon time for another hard ram, and this time, the spikes met the front tyres again, ripping them more substantially! Flipped again, Achilles balanced on its sloped side for half a second before falling over, allowing more time for May Tracks to attack again, this time propping Achilles against the south wall!
Achilles, however, slid off the wall, causing The May Tracks Has You to almost comically collide with the Lexan! However, the damage to the front tyres had affected its mobility - it was a bit wobbly on its wheels! When May Tracks turned, the robots met head on, straining against each other - Achilles just managed to push May Tracks back towards Assassinator, who gave it a quick thump with the pickaxe! May Tracks escaped with a reverse corner that any driving instructor would be proud of - Achilles tried to turn after it, but May Tracks ran round to its side again, only to find Assassinator blocking it as it tried to shove its opponent! That said, Achilles itself got a taste of the pickaxe in this collision! May Tracks eventually shifted Achilles and brought it back against the wall, using the spikes against the rear tyres now! The flipper neatly flicked Achilles over, into Assassinators CPZ - the House Robot happily turned and hammered Achilles while it selfrighted and reversed out of the way! Achilles was unable to turn in time before it received another attack from May Tracks - again, the flipper robot missed the tyres and only scraped the baseplate, but still flipped Achilles back onto its back!
The May Tracks Has You again ran under Achilles as it was selfrighting, shoving it towards the arena disc, but Achilles overturned itself just in time and managed to swerve away! Both robots turned, Achilles now with some difficulty with its torn tyres! May Tracks came back into the side after a little dancing around, using its perfected technique on Achilles again to cause more damage to the underbelly! Landing on its wheels, Achilles ran to attack May Tracks, but now wasnt quite as fast! May Tracks ran into it head on, now able to bring the wedge extender under the spatula, for another hard ram - again, only the armour suffered the spikes, and it was still holding up! Flipped again, Achilles again landed on its wheels, and actually managed to run into its opponents side, but as it was wobbling due to the tyres, the spatula was no longer able to get under the skirts straight away! It could push, however, shoving May Tracks slowly across the arena towards the arena wall and pinning it! With a slight struggle, May Tracks managed to escape Achilless grip, then come under the side again and shove it right into The Martian, who sliced enthusiastically at Achilless sides! Achilles reversed away, but May Tracks soon caught up with its limping opponent and rammed it back against the wall - the spikes now left even more scars in the baseplate, but still couldnt pierce it! With time running down, May Tracks flipped Achilles again, but only gave it a half-hearted ram as it was selfrighting! When the two robots collided again, they turned once again before May Tracks came back underneath, now pinning Achilles against the wall for the seconds that remained!
CEASE!
Dominance: A - 3/10 x 6 = 18, MT - 8/10 x 6 = 48 (Achilles was dominant at the beginning, but almost completely dominated from then on in)
Damage: A - 3/10 x 5 = 15, MT - 5/10 x 5 = 25 (both robots did some damage to their opponents armour (directly and indirectly), but MT knackered As tyres as well)
Aggression: A - 5/10 x 4 = 20, MT - 8/10 x 4 = 32 (sadly, Achilles didnt get much of a chance to be aggressive with MT all over it)
Control: A - 7/10 x 3 = 21, MT - 8/10 x 3 = 24 (MT was a little more controlled)
Strategy: A - 5/10 x 2 = 10, MT - 8/10 x 2 = 16 (MT had more of a strategy - to go for Achilless sides and use its spikes and flipper to attack the tyres - and carried it successfully)
Style: A - 3/10 x 1 = 3, MT - 7/10 x 1 = 7 (MTs flipping and ramming was more stylish than Achilless lifting and ramming)
Total: Achilles = 87, The May Tracks Has You = 152
THE MAY TRACKS HAS YOU GOES THROUGH TO THE SEMI FINALS!
And finally, which rookie will go into the semi finals - Inferno or System Shock 4.0?
House Robots: Horcrux & The Martian
3, 2, 1 - ACTIVATE!
System Shock 4.0 came blazing forward as fast as it could while Inferno began to spin, backing away from its advancing opponent as it did so! With a crash, the two robots met! System Shock was spun away, while its lifting wedge tipped Inferno a little so its teeth hit the floor, slowing the disc and causing Inferno to bounce a little! The spinner soon stabilised, only for System Shock to reverse hard into it, having been spun round in that direction! System Shock was cast away again, but not quite as far, and was now able to bring in its lifting wedge again! Tipped so that a tooth grazed the floor again, Infernos disc was finally slowed enough for System Shock 4.0 to get in underneath properly! The rammer raised its wedge and pushed, but Infernos wide circumference meant it wasnt going to be overturned easily! Balancing its opponent on the wedge, System Shock ran it into the wall: Inferno tipped up....and back down again! Carrying its opponent away, aware of the 30 second time limit, System Shock 4.0 tried another hard ram! Inferno was tipped up again....and this time, was left leaning against the wall! With a side bump from System Shock, it landed on the floor, on its back! With no srimech, Inferno was helpless, while System Shock 4.0 spun victoriously, obviously unwilling to push Inferno onto the arena flipper!
CEASE!
SYSTEM SHOCK 4.0 GOES THROUGH TO THE SEMI FINALS!
Semi-Final Lineup:
System Shock 4.0 vs The May Tracks Has You
SoR X vs Wedge Devolution
Awwwwsome fights:proud:
Tactics are to aim for the sides and flip it around and into the house robots/arena disc until hes not as mobile. Then try to pit him.
Wedge Devo to win the other fight.
So, we get the final fight, one round early. :proud: I should have seen the match coming anyway. :proud: No shame in losing to great bots such as SoR and Wedge Devo, good job Steve and Andy, and awesome fights Richard. :)
System Shock 4.0 vs The May Tracks Has You
The tracks/treads and then the wheels will get stabbed to death on May Tracks spikes, I think. May Tracks FTW.
Son of Ripper X vs Wedge Devolution
OH YEAH :proud: I think the rear flywheel of SoR will prove the difference here, and will smack Wedge Devos skirts off so the flipper can get under. Andy FTW. :proud:
If VFT8 comes about, consider me signed up. :)
Ah well - my luck had to end some day
I predict a final between System Shock (get under the skirts, or maybe even front of May Tracks and shove him around for a pitting or JD) and Wedge Devolution (stop SOR Xs blade then pitting it)
In the play-off, I predict for SOR to win 3rd, and I predict System Shock to win 1st.
Good luck everyone
Well Kody, the chances that Ill be continuing to write after this are pretty good - Im undecided about whether to do a proper VFT8 or something a little different.
Its up to you, Richie. :)
Wait, its the Semi-Finals and Im still here? How on earth did that happen?
SEMI-FINALS
1) System Shock 4.0 VS The May Tracks Has You
An interesting clash between two tracked machines. I think System Shocks power advantage will decide it, but one lucky flip from the May Tracks could change everything.
2) S.O.R. X VS WEDGE DEVOLUTION
As with the fight against Troubloon, I see little point in wasting CO2 on an invertible bot in an enclosed arena, especially if that bot is a Ripper. Ill save my flipper for self-righting only (Ill need it for this bout!) and go for a more passive style of attack again. Aim for the sides and rear to halt the spinning rim, drive underneath and use my superior pushing power to slam S.O.R. X into the nearest arena hazard - the House Robots, the disc and especially the Pit.
This comeback tournament has been quite smashing, Rich, and I know the finals are going to be a hoot. As for what youll do next, I say try another minor tournament or two if youre still unsure about a return to majors. Whatever you do, youve got at least one guaranteed customer. :proud:
And so, we finally reach the semi finals. Four robots have survived all their battles so far, but only one can be the champion - so lets get closer to finding out who it is! Our first semi final battle features two tracked robots: The May Tracks Has You (having beaten Nidhogg, Eternia and Achilles) and System Shock 4.0 (who beat Axe-o-Lotl, Under Pressure and Inferno)!
House Robots: Megaraptor & Drilla Killa Ultimate
3, 2, 1 - ACTIVATE!
As the two tracked robots ran in for the first blow, System Shock 4.0 turned the wrong way as it went for its opponents side, allowing May Tracks to succeed in its own side attack! It pushed System Shock around in a circle for a moment before managing to get its wedge extender under the skirts, and shove System Shock towards Megaraptors CPZ! With a good flip, May Tracks catapulted its opponent straight into the House Robot, who turned and managed to grip System Shock in one claw, before lifting it aloft! As System Shock was dropped unceremoniously, May Tracks was waiting underneath - it moved quickly, ramming System Shock into the arena disc! System Shocks treads took a hit from the disc, but survived! As May Tracks advanced again, System Shock ran for a moment, just managing to keep ahead. Suddenly it stopped, reversed into May Tracks and fired its ramming spikes, shoving its opponent away! System Shock reversed into the side of its stunned opponent and fired the spikes again, but they didnt pierce the Hardox! It was, however, able to shove May Tracks against the wall and pin it!
After about 15 seconds of pinning, System Shock 4.0 fired its spikes again for good measure, but this allowed The May Tracks Has You to slip away! System Shock turned quickly and rammed May Tracks in the side, using its superior power to run it into Drilla Killa Ultimate! Like the ramming spikes, Drilla Killas drills only scratched the resilient Hardox, so it turned to wear away with its rear cone drill! Unfortunately, May Tracks reacted by flipping from under the cone drill! System Shock 4.0 continued to push however, leading to one big pileup in the corner! System Shock was underneath May Trackss skirting, but the combined weight of its opponent and the House Robot proved difficult to lift or move! The comical stalemate went on until System Shock 4.0 was told to back off - when it did, May Tracks gave Drilla Killa Ultimate one more taste of its flipper and rolled to safety! It turned to face the attacking System Shock, resulting in a head on collision! System Shocks drive motors proved superior, and May Tracks was quickly shoved backwards into the arena disc, spinning away, and having to react quickly to avoid System Shock pinning it against the wall!
The tables were suddenly turned, as The May Tracks turned into its reversing opponent and caught it side on again, shoving it into the disc before it could get under the skirt! As System Shock 4.0 was spun away, May Tracks ran after it, but only knocked it as it ran! Another chase ensued, before System Shock 4.0 turned and charged fearlessly! May Tracks tried to turn into its side, but mistimed the turn and missed System Shock again! The ramming robot, meanwhile, reversed into May Tracks and used its spikes once again, but this time May Tracks got out of the way before it could be pinned, and found itself in the perfect position to come in side-on! It shoved System Shock hard until it was under the skirts again, and then it was back to the arena disc! With a flip, System Shock landed on top of the disc, so its tracks and top armour took more damage, but both still held up! It was spun away awkwardly, allowing ample oppotunity for May Tracks to get underneath again, and just flip it against the disc again! System Shock 4.0 landed flat on its treads, now torn a little and leaving it a little wobbly! Before it could get away, May Tracks reappeared and slammed into it, this time ramming it into the pit release! Making sure it was well underneath System Shock 4.0, it carried its opponent to the waiting pit, and itself into the final!
CEASE!
THE MAY TRACKS HAS YOU GOES THROUGH TO THE GRAND FINAL!
Now comes a much anticipated battle between two VFT champions: SoR X (who beat Flaming Hell, The 6isc and Wedginator Devilution) and Wedge Devolution (who beat Walk Dont Run 3 and a Half, Exodus and Troubloon 6)!
House Robots: Assassinator & The Martian
3, 2, 1 - ACTIVATE!
SoR X seemingly came on the attack - but ran right past Wedge Devolution as the flipper tried to turn and catch it, allowing itself to spin up! Wedge Devo threateningly advanced, managing to catch SoR X before it could come in at the side - the rim hit the wedge and side, and both robots parted forcefully! When they ran towards each other again, there was only a glancing blow! Wedge Devolution had ended up close to the pit, so SoR X went for the release! It failed to dodge its opponents front, however, but was only pushed for a moment before the rim hit the wedge again! In the next collision, the two robots became parallel, which only meant another blow for Wedge Devo! However, next time they met head on, and Wedge Devos wedge proved lower! It pushed SoR X right towards the open pit....and just missed! Instead, they hit the wall, and SoR X went skimming off in the wrong direction, hitting another wall on its journey! With its rim slowed, Wedge Devolution was now able to catch it properly, but the pit was now closed, so the nearest available hazard was Assassinator! Wedge Devo slammed SoR X hard into the House Robot, who brought both its axe and spikes into play, in a pileup almost as chaotic as in the previous battle!
In the chaos, SoR X was pushed off Wedge Devolutions wedge and made good its escape - by the time Wedge Devo caught up with it, the rim was spinning again! SoR X slashed across the champs front corner, tearing one end of the skirt! It spun round and tried to bring its flipper into play, but Wedge Devo ran into it head on again and came underneath the wedge! This time, it headed for the arena disc - upon impact, SoR X flew into its opponent, bounced off and went skimming across the floor! With its wedge rather scratched by the experience, Wedge Devo came on the attack, with SoR X aiming for the gap in the skirt. The two robots became parallel - and Wedge Devo was knocked again by the rim! SoR X turned, ran into Wedge Devos side....and the champ found itself experiencing what it had done to so many others, as it flew into the air and landed on its back! When Wedge Devo fired its flipper to selfright, SoR X struck with the rim - it didnt hit the rams, but knocked Wedge Devo for six, sending it tumbling awkwardly onto its wheels!
Wedge Devolution barely had time to think before SoR X hit it again, knocking it into The Martians CPZ! The paintwork on the wedge suffered even more at the hands of The Martians saws! Unfazed, Wedge Devo reversed back into its opponent, knocking itself loose but failing to knock SoR X into the wall! SoR X ran into Wedge Devos side, but couldnt get under the other, intact skirt, and the champion got away! It spun round as SoR X came in, and ran into the rim again, sustaining more damage but slowing it a little! SoR X backed off to spin up again, then reversed, trying to get into Wedge Devos side but failing, although it did land another hit on the front and spin Wedge Devo against the wall! SoR X ran into the undamaged skirt again - it didnt stay undamaged for long, as SoR Xs rim ripped it before Wedge Devo got loose, and charged SoR X into the wall itself! Unfortunately, after bouncing off, SoR X just ran away again to get back up to speed, undoing its opponents efforts! Seeing it move close to the pit, Wedge Devo took a detour and charged the release! Taking a chance, SoR X reversed back into Wedge Devo before it could turn to face it, ripping the left skirt even more! Carried along the side of its opponent, it was able to use the flipper again, neatly overturning it! When Wedge Devo selfrighted, it just landed on top of its opponent! Not wasting the oppotunity, SoR X charged straight at the pit! The VFT6 champion went falling in, with Andy almost driving SoR X in as well, in his excitement!
CEASE!
SoR X GOES THROUGH TO THE GRAND FINAL!
Playoff:
System Shock 4.0 vs Wedge Devolution
Grand Final:
SoR X vs The May Tracks Has You
I particularly enjoyed writing these fights (the playoff and final look like theyre going to be great to write as well), so I hope you all like them too!
(Message edited by velociraptor on November 30, 2008)
Very well written, Richie! :) Ill take Wedge Devolution to beat System Shock in a close judges decision, and then the one Im looking forward to. Itll be tough, but I think SoR might have the edge with the flipper as he can flip May Tracks over and then attack while May Tracks is inverted. SoR to win by KO, just before time runs out.
There will be a champion to beat after this, yes there will :proud:
SoR X FTW for sure.
...I cant really add anything to Kodys comments regarding my predictions, da man speak da truth. :proud:
And myself and Andy (whos having net problems atm) are in agreement at the extreme w00tiness of these fights, heres to many more in the future Richie. :proud: (...and also to me getting past round 1 next time...someday...)
Ah well, one VFT title is good enough for now. Bravo, AJ, youve bested me again. :proud:
PLAY-OFF
System Shock 4.0 VS WEDGE DEVOLUTION
DESTROY ALL HOUSE ROBOTS! BLARGH!
As for real tactics, once again, not much point in flipping an invertible bot. After my killing spree, stay passive and aim for the skirt corners. Scrape under the skirts and slam System Shock into the nearest hazard, preferebly the Pit.
As for the Grand Final, Im going to go for a shock and back the May Tracks to finally get its day in the sun.
Its been a delight having you back in action, Rich. Ill be back to reclaim my title next time.
I just checked the render of SOR X - if thats to scale, then that thing has seriously tiny teeth, so Im pretty sure I can get under him from the sides without too many problems. Failing that, Im sure my armour can stand up to stalling the rim before getting under. From there, do some tyre shredding to disrupt his allignment and hopefully make him mauler dance once the rim is off centre.
Finally, once Ive got him wounded I wont bother flipping anymore, save to invert him if needed so he cant use the flipper. Ill send him into the house robots, to keep him trapped/damage him some then try and pit him.
Then I will attack the house robots :proud:
...Then I will wish AJ good luck for the final, and congratule Rich on a fantastic comeback tourney :)
nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Ah well, Im really chuffed to have made the semi-finals of my first ever VFT, and losing to a great robot in a great battle makes it OK.
For the play-off Im sticking with the lifter and going for similar tactics as Steven, just go for the pit, but I will lift Wedge over a few times to see if I can make him run out of gas or if I get a chance fire my spikes into his flipper rams. :proud:
The final could go either way, but Ill go for May Tracks :) Anyway though this is perhaps the finest tournament Ive competed in so far, matched only by the Phoenix Cup (possibly because I won that :proud:)
Before we get to the grand final, its time for the playoff, for one of the losers in the last round to salvage some pride by getting the bronze medal? But will that robot be dethroned champ Wedge Devolution, or vicious rookie System Shock 4.0?
House Robots: Drilla Killa Ultimate & The Martian
3, 2, 1 - ACTIVATE!
As System Shock 4.0 went on the attack, it was surprised to find Wedge Devolution ignoring it, but instead going for Drilla Killa Ultimate! Turning to face the cocky competitor, Drilla Killa found itself being flipped over from under its pincers! Unable to rest on its rear drill, it came back down on its back, only to be flipped against the wall by Wedge Devo! At this point, System Shock 4.0 caught up, ramming Wedge Devo from the rear: straining against its opponent, it surpassed the rear skirt and lifted Wedge Devo, carrying it away from the stranded House Robot into the arena centre, and managing to tip it over! It swiveled around to try and drive its spikes into the rams, but failed as Wedge Devo selfrighted too quickly! Still ignoring System Shock, the now former champ charged down The Martian, with its opponent still in hot pursuit! The Martian barely had time to scratch Wedge Devo with its saws before it was turned up on its side, and fell down onto its back! Again, this fun assault left Wedge Devo exposed to the more focussed System Shock, who rammed it from the rear again, brushing the stranded Martian aside!
Soon underneath Wedge Devolution again, System Shock 4.0 ran across the arena floor while lifting to tip the flipper over again, before shifting to try and catch Wedge Devo as it selfrighted! As it turned out, when Wedge Devo did selfright, it landed directly on top of its opponent, who went for a hard ram into the pit release to shift it! Wedge Devo was tipped by the force of the impact, before slowly resting on its back again - System Shock only managed a brief shove in the pits general direction before it selfrighted! However, once Wedge Devo did flip itself back over, System Shock 4.0 was still able to reverse in from behind, slowly shove the wedge towards the pit, then fire the ramming spikes to tip it over the edge! Both drivers were left celebrating: Liam for having won the bronze, and Steven for having triumphed over the feeble House Robots!
CEASE!
SYSTEM SHOCK 4.0 WINS THE PLAYOFF!
So, this is it. The grand final of Velociraptors Fanfic Tournament: The Comeback. Its between two of the most impressive robots in this tournament, and certainly two of the best designed.
First into the arena is Son Of Ripper X, descendant of the VFT1 champion. With a flipping wedge combined with a spinning rim, this monster has already proved too much for Flaming Hell, The 6isc, Wedginator Devilution and Wedge Devolution. Can its design see it through one more battle, and win one more tournament for the Ripper robots?
It is soon followed by The May Tracks Has You, who has been using a highly effective combo of flipping, and going for its opponents underbellies with static spikes. After incapacitating Nidhogg and Eternia relatively easily in its first battles, it had a tougher time against Achilles and System Shock 4.0. This battle is sure to be even more difficult - how will it do?
House Robots: King Cobra & Ultimate Snakebite
3, 2, 1 - ACTIVATE!
SoR X began the final battle by swerving to one side to get its rim spinning, while The May Tracks Has You came after it quickly! Soon the two robots met, but May Tracks failed to get into a good position for a flip before SoR X swerved and whacked it on the side! Reacting quickly, May Tracks reversed away from the advancing SoR X before charging in again and firing its flipper: it was disoriented by the rim again, but SoR X was sent flying, bouncing off the floor but landing right side up! Before it could recover, however, May Tracks had run into its wedge, avoiding the rim and pushing it backwards! Fortunately, SoR X took only a slight scratch from the deadly spikes before it bounced off the arena wall to safety: it ran after May Tracks for a side attack, but wasnt quick enough! May Tracks turned into its opponent and flipped again, sustaining another scar but tipping it over and stalling the rim! This time, it was able to get in a good charge into the wall, and bring its spikes into play on one tyre, before flipping SoR X over again!
However, SoR X was still standing, and as May Tracks moved away, it managed to get a ram into the side! It couldnt get past the skirts, but it did manage to shove its opponent towards Ultimate Snakebite, who responded by striking a blow to the rear with its flywheel! May Tracks was knocked upwards, exposing its underbelly to SoR X, who eagerly flipped it over! It began pushing its opponent towards the arena disc just as May Tracks selfrighted, and bounced off the spinning rim before landing on the floor! SoR X reversed into it to cause more damage! However, May Tracks thought quickly, and reversed into SoR X as it was still close to the wall! The wall shuddered as SoR X was rammed against it to slow the rim some more! It still managed to bounce off as May Tracks came in with its front, but found itself caught between its opponent and the arena disc! As it was pushed into the arena disc and sent spinning away, May Tracks charged, managing to catch up with SoR X, get underneath it again, and perform its patented spike-n-flip attack! With tears in its tyres, SoR X was just a little wobbly, but still in the fight!
The May Tracks Has You aggressively attacked again, and when it just received another side blow for its troubles, it swerved and carried on charging, almost mis-timing the next flip! SoR X was tipped against the floor and bounced back and forth: May Tracks had plenty of time before it stabilised to come in for another attack, and rend the Vulkolan tread on the tyres again! Landing on its back after the flip, SoR X made a run for it to spin up again, but now it was wobbling more and moving a little slower! May Tracks quickly caught up with it, although it mistimed the flip again and got another blow from the rim! As SoR X attacked again, May Tracks dodged and successfully used the flipper again: this time, SoR X was carried into the wall and bounced off, still adding to the abuse the arena was suffering! Once on its wheels, SoR X was not able to dodge May Tracks in time, and took another ram, tear and flip from its opponent!
Once back on its wheels, SoR X dodged a harsh reverse from May Tracks and began spinning up again, but its wobbling still looked to have increased, and a Mauler dance threatened! AJ reluctantly turned the spinning rim off and fired the flipper to turn his robot over and make the wedge usable again! As May Tracks attacked, SoR X turned into it, and before May Tracks could give it a good shove, it got the flipper under the damaged skirting and overturned it again! It quickly began shoving May Tracks towards the pit release, only for its opponent to jump off the wedge again and land right side up! Running a short distance, May Tracks turned and advanced, this time dodging the wedge and running underneath SoR X easily, before shoving it back towards Ultimate Snakebite! Deciding one competitor was as good as another, Ultimate Snakebite aimed to clamp SoR X in its jaws, turning it over in the process! SoR X fired its flipper in an attempt to escape, flying into the wall, bouncing off and landing to the side of May Tracks!
The May Tracks Has You responded quickly, turning its front into SoR X, coming under the wedge and shoving it back across the arena to where King Cobra awaited! SoR Xs body was a perfect target for the axes, who hammered down mercilessly, although making a limited impression on the Hardox top! After one blow, however, SoR X slipped off its opponents wedge and ran into its side, only to find the skirting there was still intact! Nevertheless, it pushed May Tracks against King Cobra, who was happy to attack no matter who the victim was! After some straining, May Tracks escaped from the grip of its two adversaries, turned round again, and ran back into its advancing opponent! At this point, it seemed to decide enough was enough, and ran SoR X into the pit release! Carefully turning it around, it ran its damaged opponent forward....AND DOWN THE PIT! FRANK YELLED IN VICTORY AND HAD HIS ROBOT DO A QUICK VICTORY SPIN...
CEASE!
....before running towards King Cobra and giving it a good flip against the arena wall! May Tracks looked set to go back towards Ultimate Snakebite, but was sternly told to stop by the officials!
So, in fourth place, the VFT6 champion, the simple but efficient flipping wedge by Steven MacGregor, WEDGE DEVOLUTION!

So, what of the future? Well, as Ive said before, I still need to think about whats coming next, but rest assured, there will in fact be something coming next in whatever capacity. Theres also a few changes that may be made: Im thinking of getting rid of the House Robots, which didnt really contribute a huge amount to the fights (and the arena flipper, which contributed even less).
A big thank you to all the sixteen people who entered, and see you again soon for more!
...What a great way to end a fantastic tournament :)
w00t for me getting bronze, well done to Steven for getting rid of the house robot and congratulations to Frank and Andy for a great final match, especially to Frank and most of all well done to Richard for a smashing comeback. :proud:
You can get Ill be back for whatever comes next
Meh, who cares about bad predictions if we get an awesome play-off and one hell of a grand final? :proud: Much applause and whistling to Richie for one cracking tournament. :)
If you feel up for another VFT, Richie, consider me already signed up. :)
Amazing fights, Richy! I will definitely be back for more Rich tourneys! :)
RICHARD! RICHARD! RICHARD!
Woohoo! Awesome tournie, awesome fights, and an awesome machine won the whole thing :proud:
Well done to Steve, Liam Andy and most of all Rich.
...Just one thing. You cant get rid of the house robots. Who would we attack after cease if you did?
After cease? :proud:
Well its not as if the cease automatically stops all radio communication between transmitters and robots...see Pitbull v. Firestorm for quite a lot of fighting that happened after the cease :proud:
Im with everyone in agreeing this is a tourney of wootiness, and also with most people in saying I shall almost definitely be in the next one. :proud:
Congrats to Frank for winning especially since he had to get past my for some reason spelt in all capitals best creation in order to do so :P, and commiserations to the losers.
Ah well, at least I took the Housers with me. :proud:
As Ive said time and again, its great to see you back at the writers chair, Rich. Bravo to Liam, AJ and of course Frank for making the podium and you can guarantee me a place in the next Velociraptor extravaganza. clipart{wink}
Brilliant tournament! Thanks for some great battles Richard, and well done for the win Frank. Like everyone else, Ill be back for the next one.
