Tom, might I make a suggestion?
Put all of your questions down on a piece of paper and put one or two posts on the forum each day. It becomes difficult to follow what you are asking and difficult to answer your questions.
yeah ill have to remember to use my brain and think ahead :p i usually just wait for things to pop into my head.
ewan have you found out when the 100mm wheels will be available?
Got nearly everything ordered now i just need stuff from ewan and sum sort of a pneumatic system.
anyone got any old pneumatic stuff or know where theres sum going cheap?
then i just have to think of a chassis/body design and what to build it from.
Im chasing up on the wheels as I speak. Hopefully I should have another lot in stock by the end of next week.
All the best
ok cheers fella. know anyone who might sell second hand or just cheap stuff for a pneumatics system? needing solenoid valves etc
Any news on those wheels yet ewan? ohh btw what were micro maul evos dimensions? Length/Width? im going to make a chassis like that out of 20x20 box only for 100mm wheels. im having polycarb base sides and top but im having them set into the chassis so that its flush and ill just put some 25x3 flat tags inside to fasten the polycarb to. then ill just have to see if its strong enough. then i just have the risk of a weight problem.
Theres some pneumatics stuff here http://www.airlines-pneumatics.com/webcat/product-index.asphttp://www.airlines-pneumatics.com/w...duct-index.asp whole systems seem hard to come by.
Theyre being made up as I speak so I am made to believe! Again sorry for the delay.
Cant remember the exact dimensions as I sold the thing off a while ago, but I can tell you it wasnt wide enough! Was too tight a fit to get the drill motors in comfortably. I think it was approx 340mm wide (inc box sections and outer armour) and then around 450mm long (again, only 50mm body height :))
no problem im not 100% ready to get building yet still trying to work out what size i want to be. ohh ill need a 100mm empty gap or somthing in the middle maybe more. i think ill have to go wider than long which i didnt really want to do cos i think i might have to go about 480 maybe 500 wide but if i ant to go longer it will enf up being over 500 long it will make the bot really big for a feather wont it? it might just look like a big box when its done.
for the powerlight can u have a row/line of leds or just a single led? i was thinking of putting them surrounding my removeable link opening but if u can only have 1 ill just put 1 above it.
There is no restriction on the number of LEDs so long as it is clearly ON.
ok cheers
what sort of size are some of the bigger feathers?
im still struggling on what size to go with. its having 100mm wheels and its going to be invertable so thats my body height sorted. whats more prefered with a invertable bot with 100mm wheels, longer or wider? its going to be bulky anyway i go because it has to be about 500 wide just to fit my drive motors wheels and weapon in.
If you have 4 wheels then a longer robot is harder to turn as you have to slip the wheels a greater distance to turn through a set angle.
On the other hand if you have a robot that is a lot wider it becomes more difficult to control in a straight line as you have too much control over turning and any unbalance in the timing of the speed controllers or trim etc can be amplified.
I would make a base out of wood with your motors etc attached and drive it about. Try a few different sizes and see what works for you.
is about 500 wide by 400 long abit on the big size?
i made a cardboard one this size to test my cardboard 4 bar in so i could find a lift motion that i liked and its quite big.
Sounds fair enough to me. I once made a robot of similar proportions: http://www.micro-maul.co.uk/events/IMG_1966.jpghttp://www.micro-maul.co.uk/events/IMG_1966.jpg
what was its dimensions? and how big was the spinning disk?
(Message edited by xtreme on May 20, 2007)
what was that bot called ewan?
I dont know the dimensions off by heart, it was about 55cm wide and 40cm long (main body). The disc was about 80mm diameter. Named Stingray.
ok cheers. what was its body height?
i have been looking through some old threads again and if i used a compressor system with a aluminium drinks bottle as a buffer tank what pressure am i allowed to go to with the tank not been a tested/certified tank or whatever.?
Hi Tom
This Sunday and Monday in Sheffield there is a event called May fest at the Don Valley Grass Bowl Roaming Robots is doing a pay to drive event plus some of the local teams will be there with there feathers on display if you could get there Im sure you would get lots of good advice And see some diferent types of featherweight weapon systems.
would i be able to use the compressor to buffer tank method at 10 bar? its only an aluminium fizzy drinks bottle.

Right im planning my layout abit better now and im leaving 150 x 100 blank spaces for the motors as i dont know there sizes yet but then i got abit of a prob with the spacing for the compressor and pneumatics. only way i can think of doing it if putting the reciever speedo and batterys all to one side but would this give me a big prob with interfearance? im drawing up another layout tonight to see what i can do but the compressor + tank takes up loads of room. plus im still unsure about the rules with this compressor system so i might abandon that idea in the future.
got 2 green led cooler master fans and 1 purple led cooler master fan out of my pc today. down to 7 fans in my pc now hope it dont get warm :p

will those wheels be with you this week ewan?
Im hoping so. Ill let you know as soon as they are. Were just being finished up yesterday so I believe.
Al the best
*All
In stock now. Sorry for the delay
ok fella u remember what i wanted?
it was
4 x motors - £28.80
1 x 30A link - £4.19
4 x 100mm wheels - £27.00
3m x Red 2.5sqmm £1.44
3m x Black 2.5sqmm £1.44
3m x Red 4sqmm £2.10
3m x Black 4sqmm £2.10
£75.47 including postage wasnt it?
how much did it cost you to build the whole spinning setup on stingray?
If you add all of the above to the online cart you can find out! http://www.gimsonrobotics.com/shop_products.htmlhttp://www.gimsonrobotics.com/shop_products.html
At an estimate itd be about £80 to put together a similar set-up including weapon speed controller (assuming youve got the tools to cut the disc and mounts required). Most of the parts I used were recycled from previous projects though.
what was all that VbV or MSC thing i had to sign up for when i bought that stuff?
anyways i did that 20 quid next day thing so will it come on sat? or will it be tues?
gunna have to get myself a spinning disk as one of my interchangeable weapons.

I should imagine its probably the new swathe of protection for credit/debit cards that my payment gateway is enforcing.
Should be with you on Saturday if Royal Mail does what its meant to do! Thank you for the order.
got my stuff this morning cheers ewan.
ehhh ewan i think i might have messed up abit. i undid the 2 screws at the top of the torque limiter and it sprung off now the top just spinns freely without the motor moving what di i do?
anyone with any advice at all?
(Message edited by xtreme on May 26, 2007)
Unfortunately thats you permanently wrecked your motor...
Nah, just kidding. :lame: For the top to spin when the motor spins, theres a part inside the gear casing (the torque ring) which needs pressure applied on it. When the torque limiter was on it, the spring pushed against some ball bearings which in turn applied pressure on to the torque ring. Im guessing youre currently sitting with 16 loose ball bearings now too? :)
Where those ball bearings went there are eight holes going into the casing. In order to re-appply that pressure, probably the best thing to do is to tap 3-4 of the holes with an M5 tap and insert some small grub screws into those holes. Tighten them down until the shaft stops turning easily, then tighten them a bit more to eliminate any slippage from the torque ring. Once thats done, the shaft should only be able to turn if the motor is turning.
For reference if you dont have any, one option for grub screws is CPC, some of the 5mm deep ones:
http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/Fasteners%2C+Fixings+&+Site+Maintenance/Screws+&+Screw+Accessories/UNBRAKO/Set+Screws+M5+5mm/displayProduct.jsp?sku=FN00233http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/Fasteners...crews+&+Screw+ Accessories/UNBRAKO/Set+Screws+M5+5mm/displayProduct.jsp?sku=FN00233
ye i noticed the thing looking in the holes and stuck a nail into it and that worked just gotta hope i had it set to the correct torque setting :p ohh and as for the ball bearings, yeah they went everywhere.
now i just need a decent ram so i can get to work on my 4 bar lifter positioning. then i can do my mock up. pete has got a 40 bore 80 travel ram but i dunno outside width of it. think i could use a smaller ram like 32 bore or somthing and still get well enough power to flip over 12kg and still do it fast. i still need a ram and all the other stuff needed for a flipper weapon like valves switcher and stuff so if anyons got owt just post a msg.
ordered some grub screws, now for the lifter/flipper.
im looking for everything ill need to power my 4 bar lifter/flipper. Pneumatic ram (about 80/100 stroke would do), solenoid valve, switcher. im using a compressor/buffer tank system using a aluminium fizzy drinks container to start with but im still unsure about what pressure im aloud to go with using this method, and the best way to connect my compressor to my tank. i have been told using a tyre valve (schrader valve) and just connecting my compressor onto that just like blowing up a tyre and also i have been told that the tube coming from the compressor will fit into a 8mm push fit and just have a T push fitting in the top of the tank and have my in/outlet on 8mm push fits. whats the best way to go? i will be dropping the compressor and buffer tank method eventually but i dont want to start playing with high pressure stuff just yet.
imma post abut the ram, valve, switcher in wanted section later if nobody checks this post out.
Have a look back thru the featherweight threads around 06-29-06 for some info.
Have a look at William Mc Farlands unfinished bot...theres a link on his profile ...

It may well be worth asking him if he wants to sell......seeing as how he hasnt logged in for nearly a year!
I hope nothings happened to him.

gotta hope i had it set to the correct torque setting
does this have an effect on the working of the motors as drive motors?
