FRA Rules
Philip, this is also my personal opinion:
Whats wrong with common sense ? Is there a country that has the trademark on law like you shall not steal ? There isnt. Because practically all human societies tend to come to that somewhere in their history and this applies to many laws and customs.
So, it is the same within this sport: because the conditions are the same everywhere it is only logical that rules tend to be similar everywhere. And may even be similarely recorded.
Any rumour mongerer can be directed towards me and I will give him/her a piece of my mmind about similarity in evolution. This is really childish actually, or is there money involved ?
-
FRA Rules
There is no money involved. I do not like people speaking behind other peoples back. I prefer to come right out and say this has been said is it true or false?
I guess it is childish. I would like it to stop and, to that end, was hoping to find a simple definite answer here so that I could stop the rumour.
Thanks for taking the time to answer.

Just a thought......why not ask the person(s) perpetrating the rumour to present evidence of the alleged dishonesty? You might find that this kills it stone dead.

FRA Rules
I did that is when he said
The RFL Rules are here
http://www.botleague.com/pdf/RFLTechRegs09.pdfhttp://www.botleague.com/pdf/RFLTechRegs09.pdf
the FRA rules are here
http://www.fightingrobots.co.uk/documents/buildrules.pdfhttp://www.fightingrobots.co.uk/docu...buildrules.pdf
The RFL rules were released a long time before the FRA rules were published.. have a look at them both and tell me the FRA rules *werent* taken from the RFL ones.
I have no idea why they would want to deny it. Some silly political motivation maybe ?
And in another post.
They are based on the standard US RFL Rules
(as are the FRA rules, even if the FRA is too dishonest to admit it )
There is only one person saying this and he is a good guy. He is very helpful to local roboteers and the biggest event organizer down under. I am not trying to hurt him or anything of that nature. I would just like to clear up this one issue.
I tried to find the Mentorn rule set that were modified to create the FRA rule set but have heen unsuccessful.
I have also asked the gentleman what rule set the RFL rules were based on as that could be the simple answer to this question.

FRA Rules
The people that started the rules now used for the FRA rules used the RFL and Mentorn rules as a base and guideline. Never forget that Mentorn used the Robotwars rules originating from the USA.
I guess that Derek and team used a variation on the original RW rules.
Unfortunatly it seems to me that another covered slandercampange is started to hurt the FRA.

FRA Rules
Does it really matter who modded who rules?
So long as the sport of robot combat is safe for everyone i cant see it makes any difference.
Everyones got to start somewhere.

FRA Rules
The FRA rules were originally written with the support and involvement of the RFL to ensure that there was some similarity between rules in the UK and the US.
The benefit of this co-working is born out by the fact that UK teams travelling to Robo Olympics in March can run in the US but to our UK FRA rules rather than changing.
So yes there will be a similarity, but to suggest that there were plagarised is just stupid. If you look at early copies of the FRAs rules it stated written in conjunction with the RFL or something similar on them. Also anyone with a copy of the documentation from the FRA World Champs will see on page 7 that it acknowledges the RFLs involvement in the original FRA rules in plain text.
So there is no dishonesty Philip, the fact the FRA worked with the RFL on the rules is a published fact, and the reasons for wanting harmony between the UK and US rules is obvious !
Do you really have nothing better to do than to sit and throw rocks at a group of people working hard to keep roboteering going in the UK ? Sounds to me like someone just trying to stir trouble.
Really... get a life

... and the RFL rules were based on the Battlebots rules, which were based on the Robot Wars rules.
Its the same sport - of course its going to have similar rules.
-
FRA Rules
So there you have it: similarity was needed in order to develop an international sport.
Its no use stirring up an anthill, if you want to really do something bring an anteater. Rumours are like ants, they go everywhere and come home with juicy bits, but are a nuisance really. You can slap them, therell be more. You can eradicate them only with poison which is the truth.
But anteaters have fun. (Dang, why am I so Zen this afternoon ?)
