middleweights are new featherweights?
i. doubt. that.
in my opinion, lw's and mw's are at the same level of pointlessnessssss. if anything lw's are my preference as you can still use drills, you can just use like 8 of them
fw's are a good size for beginners. you can get fairly decent speed controlers for well under £100, unlike mw's, i will be happy to be proved wrong though.
we could see a MW revolution :)
you build one then!
i plan too, when i have the spare cash :)
lw would be an easier jump for featherweight builders and it might be possible for spinner events to happen at robochallenge. to me middleweights are a costly investment that i might never be able to fight, this is why i haven't built one yet. lightweights would be alot cheaper to build and could be easily changed back to a featherweight if the weight class didn't take off. the main appeal of lightweights to me is if spinners are allowed, if they aren't then i don't really see a future for the lightweight class as people would just make featherweights but with bigger and more powerful parts aswell as tougher armour.
just wanted to see what peoples opinions were on lightweights as they haven't been discussed yet
you do have a point jonny, if LW spinners were alowed then i think we could see that class being much more popular. ye its not as larger jump for FW builders, but its still a large jump from LW to HW
I agree with Jamie, lightweights are too close to feathers. I doubt the spinners would be allowed, as it would be a case of using a feather drive, but with an extra 12kg into the weapon. Middles are a good weight for people wanting to move on from feathers into heavies, but don't have the budget/skills.
It's more the thing now of we need to find people who are willing to build them
would be willing to build but i dont really see the point coz fw arte so much popular u wouldent get a fight and as harry nose me and my dad could build a hw,lw,mw,aw and we have 8 grand to use for them :)
I don't think starting a LW class would be a good idea
My view on the matter is that in the average show, we currently have 8 heavy fights and 2 for the feathers, add a MW class and that maybe comes out of the heavy total, so 7 heavy fights, 1 middle fight and 2 for the feathers. Not forgetting that the heavies are the main class, if you then introduced a LW class, I can see a fight coming off the feathers, which would not be good considering how many roboteers (including ourselves), currently have just the feathers.
Heavy & Feather seems to be a good combo
In my oppinion, Heavy, Middle, Light & Feather is way too much, maybe Heavy, Middle, Feather would be OK too
Considering that the KiloBots seem to be taking off, and we already have the ants (which both have a separate arena), we already have 4 weightclasses, we don't really need any more
So who if anyone is building in this class and what kind of bot are they building?
I want to see if there is a future in this class and if it's worth building in
think i might just take my ideas and parts to a heavyweight
Is anyone thinking of going into mw?
Or is it something which probably won't take off?
if more people were building i might , i'm tempted to build a lwthough
lw's just seem like fw's with a big weapon to me
middleweights are just underweight, small heavys to me
its more the fact that its a smaller jump than fw - hw but most of the internals can be used in hw's if you go with bosch 400's etc
If you want to build a heavy build a heavy, don't mess about wasting cash and time on a middleweight. However if want to have some fun with a larger weight class and not spen the earth then build a lightweight
I don't see how I could conpeat with a lw, were as a few people seem interested in building middleweights
at the next HW champs, we could possible see a MW fight?
which class has better potential since the correct internals can just be transferred into a HW or the shell made heavier on the MW but a FW could always be beefed up to make it into a LW
does anyone have any other views on this class and other ideas?
matt, the fact that the last 4 posts in this thread were made by yourself should tell you something about these weight classes. They are dead, there is little interest in them. You may have the best intentions at heart but we have a healthy community with 2 weight classes as it is.
very true, it was something which looks as if it could happen but then it kinda fizzed out
its a shame though sicne it could be a good class with potential. and it would be nice for people like me that are FW builders but dont want to make that jump from FW to HW just yet
I have started making a MW and will finish it some day soon But I need to get Gabriel finished, and do something with Cherub, sort out Saint and that's just the start!!!! :uhoh:
how many bots have you GOT??
