Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
More done, flipper blade on the feather and beefed up the top of the arm where it was bending, this robots almost done now at long last so gonna wire up sunday night and have a drive about :) be nice having a working robot again
BILD0077.JPG[/attachment:15wjbg6v]
and also about a week ago i did some to this, its the start of a 6 wheel drive feather runing off 2 drills that dave gave me a while ago, so i made spacers from hdpe and put a pair of motors in i've ordered wheels for it just waiting for them to arrive, won't be as good as the one hes doing, but i just want a box to have as a back up robot plus the 2 wheel drive box i have is boring so im going to take that to the next feather champs to get rid of it lol
BILD0078.JPG[/attachment:15wjbg6v]
will have hadox sides n lid and a 3mm ali base, will probabily do a lifter running of a drill storm 2 style but will need to have a think about all the gearing n that before hand

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
where did u get the cylinder from?
looking good
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
i brought a robot called lev 2 awhile ago and it came in that,
its 50m bore and about 70m stroke or something its pretty good, but its really heavy- 3kg!! lol so im going to have to get a lighter one made to the same size eventually.
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
3KG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THATS ALOT
when u r getting a new one where or who r u getting it from

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
ill get kenny to make it for me probabily, give him a kfc for his troubles :P
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
lol

how much is a double acting cylinder?
Theo
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
dunno depends on size and everything, that 1 i've got is double acting but i just use it as single acting and ill probabily put bungee cord on it to return the flipper arm properly
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
the ali feathers so very nearly done :D took weight out of one of the main bulkheads and its 800g lighter! and theres a bit more to get out of it aswell.
its half wired up aswell and its looking nice, litterally just finishing touches now and it'll be good to go 8)
also im not bothering with pinsor anymore, cos A-it weights a ton and B-using what i've learnt from making/using it im gonna make something which will be amazingly better and lighter and 4 wheel drive for a start so its actually controllable. - the plan was to put a car jack in to give it a few 100 kg of force, but i dont really wana wreck peoples robots, but just being able to grab robots is pointless because then the problem was it was just a pulling and pushing match- so the new one will grab and lift :) it will be nothing the old pinsor and im not using box section lol
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
why not just sell the box bit
someone would use it e.g use it as a frame for a new robot or cut it up and use that
Theo
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
not really worth selling, its made to have all the parts i litterally used in the robot all inside- can't really have any other innards put in so wouldn't be much use to anyone else
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
O
unless someone wants to build a robot the same way like if u have a big big big big big big big e.t.c fan who want to build it
which would be weird (please can there be no big big big big big big big e.t.c fan :proud: )

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
lol i doubt it has anyfans it wasn't very effective anyway :P
ali feather is still once again almost done, heres a test video i did a few weeks ago running on about 5-6 bar
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3ojmVnHjKo
heres the flipper arm all cleaned down and primed up for the red coloured spray paint which ill do next week,
BILD0091.JPG[/attachment:1rkkrlx5]
and heres the chassis in its current shape, other side needs armour over the pod bit and still got weight saving to do on the poly used to self right it aswell as few other areas
BILD0090.JPG[/attachment:1rkkrlx5]
might not be the most interesting shape or anything, but it'd rather just have a robot that works and is really reliable rather then something that looks great so i won't be as bothered about it taking damage :)

It'll always have a fan in the form of meeeee :)
Flipper feather's looking pretty good; I have to admit, when I first saw it take shape I wasn't sure on it, thought it looked really tall and awkward, but it's come on quite nicely :)
Drive seems nice and smooth and looks like it flips well. Liking the homemade arena too, well until you wrecked it with the first flip :proud:
What was the robot whose chassis you're flipping btw?
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
think its safe to say your its number 1 fan :P
yeah i didnt bolt it together properly cos it was late and cold so it fell apart lol
and it was the flipper i made before this one, it never got used sadly cos it was designed badly and was a rush job so bent it's self after a few flips and because internals where in the way it couldn't be strengthened or anything.
in 4 or 5 days time i would have been making that ali feather for a year lol

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
looking nice Calum, Whats it weigh?
Id change the flipper tip slightly though so its got a shallower angle at the very bottom...
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
it is shallower normally, the flipper arms not attached to the robot so it looks realy steep.
its gonna be over weight for now, the rams 2.6kg because its all made from steal and things like the motor mounts which hold the motors and wheels in place are heavy blocks of steal aswell, all things that need making out of ali or something later on by kenny or whoever, ill probabily get the main bulk heads pocketed aswell yet

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
Not including pimping it up with a lighter ram and other new light weight parts etc,---- just 1 more day on this and buildwise/ mchanically- however spelt- it will be done!!!! at long last :)
just drill 6 holes for flipper armour, mount 3 armour panels on the right side, counter sink all the holes on the base and grind some metal off the ram so the flipper arm closes easier (it catches atm) then its just bits of soldering and what not which can just be done whenever in my room
with it all together earlier with panels layed on n what not it was looking pretty sleek, think im happy with this robot which will make a change :D
will take some pics tomorrow when its all together and finished

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
Here you go jamie since you asked lol
been working on a possible pinsor replacement, i started it late last year for now its all really just a test chassis to see what i could do n that....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-SrAzQEzYU
so far anything i've crushed its gone through- cans and 8mm hdpe even went right thru into my old drum bots chassis and innards which looked pretty cool tbh lol, but tried crushing an old wooden speaker other day and its torn aload of welds and broke its self where the back of the actuator mounts to the back of the chassis but it was only tacked at the back anyway so kinda my fault
The future of its un certain at the minute, im definatly making something with it- im slowly but surley making a 6 wheel drive storm style robot and i realy fancied making it interesting and giving it interchangable weapons i was already doing a lifter so might yet even have that claw assembly as another changable weapon on it as im not sure if i wana keep making loads of new robots anymore as i just don't have the time.
will post a picture later or something :)

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
Nice work there Calum, hows the HW going?

If you can, I'd say definitely go for the interchangeable approach. I've been working on a design for someone that goes down the interchangeable path and have found myself wondering why I haven't tried it before. Keeps the variation with different weapons for different opponents/arenas but negates the need for a whole new robot every time.

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
Yes, I'm thinking exactly the same thing about Kaizer. Don't get me wrong - I love that lifter to death but it really is a one on one weapon. A great bot to bot weapon but I feel feathers need melee weapons to really get anywhere in a competition nowadays.
Which is a sad state of affairs in my eyes. If the napalms of the world can't get through when the likes of 360 throw themselves out of the arena, It's lost most of it's entertainment value.
Nice crusher but that can crushing is so cliche. Honestly one of these days. I'll do that with Kaizer's forks.

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
yeah jamie, think im going for the interchangable approach so one set ups a 6 wheel drive invertible storm style robot with a lifter, then for the crusher weapon, wouldn't be invertible and would take the hole shell off the robot for the lifter set up so im basically just using the base with the 6 wheel drive - mount the innards to the base aswell and make basically a different set up to bolt to the robots base, so would end up looking like a different robot pretty much, in my mind its doable lol be a good way of turning up to a new event with a different robot
and the heavys not lol havn't had time and still waiting on parts, easier to do something on a feather if you havn't got much time imo so thats all i've been doing
took some pics,

BILD0108.JPG[/attachment:10cyg5l6]
just to show the box on wheels of mine with 8mm hdpe top lid that the claw just sliced thru - only reason you can't see a massive crush hole is because the claw reached the end of its stroke before it went all the way thru
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
There may not be much to it so far, but it looks great :)
And I don't know why, but blue wheels with holes drilled in them look so much better than those without; think I'll do that on my bots, just for the sake of it.
