Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
adrian,
if the offers still up i might be interested in teaming up with your robot:) im currently making a feather with a low pressure flipper which will look like the grim reaper from series 7 of robotwars. it doesn't help but i can't 100% definatly make it to the event but i SHOULD be able to get there, just the very small chance i can't.
i havn't got a name for it yet but it should be pretty good with titanium/hdpe armour and reliable aswell.
i've been unsure about whether to enter it into the tag team with those nasty spinning things but i just decided what the hell depending on if i got a partener or not.

Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
ok sounds good, just let us know how you get on with building/finishing your machine, the worst will be a 2 spinner tag team match, then it mite be a bit more interesting. But im more bothered about the flippers than the spinners.
only spinner im a bit worried about is one i used to own savage evo, done well at last spinner event but thats probably cos its got a better driver now lol. but having owned it know the best way to fight it
new robot K.A.H.N EVO is similar to storm 2 but a fw, 6wd with electric lifter, mental speed and power, hard to drive in a controlled manner at the moment, bashes off everything lol but keeps going, i just drive flat out and hope,
hoping to do well, got a good few months of driving practice though. but mine aint finished yet either still needing some Ti.
mite even take the fw cluster bot double trouble aswell which will stand up to spinners but gets thrown high by the flippers lol, but that needs 2 drivers (obvioulsy), only built as a fun robot, wouldnt get very far without a strong tag partner. One half is heavier than the other so as long as the heavier half doesnt get taken out it can still fight.

Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
Whats the dirve in K.A.H.N Evo?

Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
will that perform like Relentless then? thats 4 speed 900s on 24v. Its uncontrollable.
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
I think stiff breeze uses golds? its not uncontrolable completely its just a case of getting used to the speed, Just need practice really. its not that hard to drive that you would end up driving it down the pit say.
could do with robochallenge extending their arena abit if they dont mind lol
the aim is to drive flat out at another robot and hit them as hard as poss into the sidewall.
well............ thats the plan .
i think its had enough shock tests lol, nothing has come loose, the drive is really reliable i think, not sure on the elec lifter its pretty tough but i wouldnt use it in a spinner fight. the lifter is set back in the robot so a spinner cant hit it as it hits the wedge first (if that makes sense) but if it wasnt in the down position i think a spinner could cause it some damage.
will post some pics once i have the Ti.
oh and can turn it into a spinner with a full body spin. 13.6kg of spinning mass. lol
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
yh i will put a pic on here when it looks a bit more like something, at the minute its just a base with wheels and motors fitted
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
also does 'welded' HDPE stand up to spinners aswell or would the 'weld' just break?
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
aslong as the weld is done well etc i think it will work will from team shock uses it and some dutch robots
think the welds just act like the normal pieces of hdpe
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
Not quite, the welds are weaker than the plates. But if welded properly the welds can withstand quite a bit.
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
oh right ok,
to weld it do i have to buy a hdpe welder or something? or is there someother cheaper way of doing it?
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
think the only way is the special welder
i believe again Will owns one????
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
As Alex says we have welded the HDPE shell on Aftershock and it has stood up surprisingly well against the spinners. We did have a proper plastic welder on loan from my uncle but we had to give it back, we now use a special nozzle for a normal hot air gun.
You can pick up the nozzles fairly cheap, but I would recommend getting a decent hot air gun where you can full adjust the temperature so that you don't end up melting the whole lot.
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
will,
how thick is aftershocks shell?
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
5mm top back and sides with a 2mm base (don't tell Little Hitter  )
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
lol don't worry your secrets safe with me.
so just the 5mm HDPE stands up to the spinners? or have you got something else under the hdpe or something?
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
Does anyone still need a partner, we need ones for my brothers new robot- Heatwave (a FP flipper) & Whirlpool (4WD Psuher)
Any takers??
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
why don't they both team up?:)
also will, turns out i've got a hot air gun, did u manage to find out what temperature was needed to weld the hdpe?
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
Well I've just beaten a personal record. Both hornet and my power tool racer are finished and ready to go a full 96 days before the competiton
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
Got a pic of the drag racer ?
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
Yeah but im not gonna post it. No point in someone copying me :)
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
i'm not even ready for this weekend let alone september
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
Due to being made redundant from LDV today - i carnt justify spending the few hundred quid that needs spending on 360 to get it running in time for the competition, So im pulling out. Might get someone to run my power tool racer though :) Sorry guys.
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
Sorry to hear that Dave, good luck finding something else.
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
Bah, now I will have to stand alone against those scottish lads with there spinning devices. oh well 1 man gang FTW!
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
I've just signed up with Alpha, do i sign up the dragster through you or directly with Silverline? May need a partner for Alpha, whos available?
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
turns out i cant make it, sorry guys :(
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
I could do with a good partner, I'll team up with you Alan, with either Hell's Angel or Satanix, depends which is working :P
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
It is 2/3 days away from my birthday!!!!!!! Yes, we will DEFENITLY be there! :proud: Extreme 5 will be there with P.S.M.B!! :proud:
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
Alan, Youve put your dragster in our sign-up form so that is fine thankyou...
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
Do i just bring my £10 along with me? Any luck on campsites, i had a quick search there was one about a mile away but was an adult only, and probably wouldnt like us lot disrupting the peace! If not i'll crash at Davids. Hopefully i will have my new toy to play with by then as well.
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
i think you have to make out a cheque for the £10 to robochallenge or something like that, not totally sure though.
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
Were just sorting out some final details regarding camping and payment etc, so we'll be putting more details up about those very soon.
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
What sort of times/speeds were the dragsters getting last year?
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
Final top speeds werent recorded last year, we have just finished developing the new system with will show your final top speeds.
The average speed for the modified class was about 2.5-3 seconds on a 16m (approximate) length track. If you could get in the low 2's or below you were extreamly quick.
We have thrown away the old track and built a new one thats now much longer, with adjustable feet so there wont be any bumps or curves in the track so top speeds should hopefully be much quicker.

Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
ive always wanted to build a power tool racer , as soon as an old angle grinder comes my way , im in :)
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!

Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
Grr i can't see the video :(
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
Looks like its got some potential!!!
One thing i would suggest though is widening the front to keep it in a really straigh tline down the track. Bouncing around will slow it down alot :proud:
-
Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!
Graeme will put some piano wire loops at the front and back, hopefully will stop it. In the vid it doesn't sound like it but there were cushions to stop it at the end, it just missed them and hit an aluminium plate.
Now for making the serious one with 2 angle grinders :)
