Guys,
the Dutch raptor is mine and build stricktly by the GRA rules. All the motors i use are 540s. The batterys are 7.2V 3800mAh Intellect sc-cells.
well thas a wiked bot
check pic on profile

really cool dirk
awesome

Weapon: Lifter / pusher
Drive: Mabuchi 750 Motor / 12 V
Armor: 6mm Ali, 3mm Ti
Status: retired
is this the same robot as on my profile pic?
taken in germany last year
Yes, this is the same bot, but the performance of the chrusher was low. I replace the chrusher for a 4-bar Lifter.
Hobbyweights are a very popular class in the US. According to botrank (http://www.botrank.comhttp://www.botrank.com) there are 129 of them which have fought in the last 18 months compared to 70 feathers and 57 heavies - more hobbyweights than feathers and heavies put together.
....old Thread, but a new picture on my profile. The picture was made on the DRG Clubday (11.11.2006). I fight with my Raptor against some Featherweights: Bonx, Tronic I, Hannibalito, Hellfire....and Basilard ist still alive.
Dirk
Indeed, it is a good robot that. Very low ground clearance too. Almost impossible for me to get the flipper under.
dont forget that raptors are running at my event in april, so all raptor class builders are invited to enter.
Are those raptors compliant to GRA rules? Or like the hobbyweights in the US?
Lookin good Dirk! :)
FRA rules raptors (basically GRA)
There are no FRA rules for raptors.
thats what i thought.
ok, until told otherwise, raptors will be feathers, but half the weight. I had proposed restrictions on motors etc, but as the rules are not yet passed by the fra, well have to assume they are generic like all the other weight classes.
This is of course just my take on it, and so if the FRA agree, this is how I will run the raptor class at the event.

The GRA rules are restrictive on motors and materials used. But strangely enough, not on batteries.
Mario- sent you an e-mail. Please reply, tah.
Raptors in the GRA are restricted in size of motor, the max size is equal to a mabuchi 755, and max voltage is 12V. No Neodimium or kobalt motors, and no adjustable brushes from anything higher than 540 motors.
The robot is not allowed Ti or other expensive materials.
Hi,
it is like leo told: the GRA-raptor-rules are restrictive only on motors (biggest motor are the Mabuchi 750 ore equal to this motor) and the max. voltage to power weapon and drivetrain is 12V. Higher Voltage only to power valves. But no restrictions to expensive materials like Ti, you can youse everything. You can find the rules here:

Hi,
Here´s some pictures of my old and now retired hobbyweight:
http://www.robosota.fi/foorumi/viewtopic.php?t=848http://www.robosota.fi/foorumi/viewtopic.php?t=848
Weapon: Lifter driven by 550rpm/12V drill
Drive: 12V drillmotors with 24:1 gearboxes and 3 Colsons
Armor: 4 and 8mm polycarb and 1mm steel and 4mm alu
Bot weighted just 5 kilos so I used some steel offcuts to bring weight up to ~6 kilos. :)
Also started to build new hobbyweight few days ago. First pictures can be found here: http://www.robosota.fi/foorumi/viewtopic.php?t=1039http://www.robosota.fi/foorumi/viewtopic.php?t=1039
Four wheel drive with active weapon driven by 9,6V Panasonic drill.. And yeah, I know, 3/8 chain is way overkill for hobby. Weight will be very close to 6 kilos when ready..
Oh, and there´s also pic of my new 450g drumbot in profile. :)
Nice work! How does the arm on the older machine retract? Does it just fall back down when the drill winds back?
There was just some elastic bands to pull lifter down. Not very good solution as they snapped in every fight..
Also it´s not very clear in the pictures, but lifters gearing was variable between 13:1 and 10,8:1 (not including drill gearbox).
nice... dont suppose your robot can make it to my event in april? we have several raptors competing
All three of those machines look impressive Juha, Keep up the good work!
Ewan, here it is.

Cheers Leo, but I was implying a wholly different section - this topic is still within the Featherweights thread divider.
Learn German, theres a whole forum on the subject. :)

So, have there been any competition in 6kg class in Britain? And what´s your plan for next years Euro champs? ;)
Oh, and I have started to build new 6kg flipper bot. Picture is in the profile. Just simple wedge with two 900rpm drills, 3 Colsons and compressor driven pneumatics. Uses 38x85mm ram made by builder of Purse, about 900l/min solenoid valve and 12mm tubing. Still about one kilogram underweight and flipper arm will be only about 500 grams according to Solidworks. :)
(That 4WD bot I wrote earlier wasn´t good and I never competed with it.. 3/8 chain was just too overkill and made drive very stiff. :P )
