Shows how good I am! Been avoiding work looking through that forum all morning!
Cheers dude!
for Robowars forum.
Having some issues with this hack. I'm using this Hobbyking AVR Programmer:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... ssors.html
I can't get it to work with AVR Studio 4. My computer wont even recognise it and another has had loads of additional drivers and software but it still wont work.
Had anyone done this hack with the cheap HK programmer?
should have spent the extra few quid and got the avr one. No issues for me with it. There was a thread where someone in auz was tring to get the cheap one to work and they had real issues. I'll sews if I can find it when I get on my laptop
Hi Dan-27,
I used the dataman programmer and works well.
But you can program with the eXtreme Burner - AVR and you can take here:
Take the 1.2v in end of page
http://extremeelectronics.co.in/avr-tut ... ogrammers/
He support the HK programmer, you only need to set the fusebits.
Select atmega8,
Load the .hex file,
Configure AVR clock, the clock configuration is:
- External crystal/Ceramic ressonator
- 1Mhz and Above
- Start up time 16K+65ms
- Full R/R Swing
Pick write High fuse (must be 0xEF)
And Write all
Be happy!

Just completed the hack on two ESCS using the pololu avr programmer. just followed the video!
i did the ground wire a little differently though by instead soldering it to the ground on a Rx extension wire, cutting the positive and signal and plugged to the ESC Rx connector.
And the software did not like Windows 8 at all. had major issues with that but might be as its running in boot camp on a iMac. worked no problem on standard windows 7
Thanks Guilherme, but I still can't get it to write using the eXtreme Burner.
I opened the tz8da_r40.hex file, set the chip to atmega8, changed to clock and selected high fuse but when clicked write all it failed when trying to verify the High Fuse Byte.
I've ticked 'write' and it's set to 0x EF but it's not working, any ideas?
This was the thread I was thinking of. Contact the guy that mentions the cheaper programmer and see if he can help.

I bought one of these

and use the KK programming software on windows 7
Worked a dream
Done half a dozen boards with no issue
